Q&A with Photographer Khara Plicinic

Starting TODAY, join the lovely Khara Plicinic for two educational and fun-filled days on creativeLIVE. Khara's Workflow and Album Design workshop is FREE to watch during the LIVE online event Thursday - Friday September 27-28th. Participate LIVE on creativeLIVE.com/live from anywhere around the world. Once she arrived in the creativeLIVE studio, I sat down with Khara to ask her a few personal questions and walked away with the biggest smile on my face after many laughs. Before her workshop begins, get to know Khara. You are going to love her personality as much as I do!

Kenna: What three things can you not live without?
Khara: After my husband Emir, I'd say I can't live without “anything to do,” travel and a good book!
Kenna: What's the movie you have watched more than any other movie?
Khara: Well, who hasn't watched Dirty Dancing a hundred million times?! Seriously, who hasn't?
Kenna: What was your favorite Halloween costume as a kid?
Khara: As a kid I had a pretty wicked Raggedy Ann costume.
Kenna: If Ben & Jerry's had a Khara Plicinic ice cream, what flavors would it be?
Khara: Coconut, Chocolate, Peanut Butter with a hint of Banana.
Kenna: What has been your most pivotal life experience to date?
Khara: The year I spent between high school and college with Up with People, an international performing arts & community service program. I spent an entire year touring all over the world with a cast of 150 people ranging in age from 18-27 from 24 countries. Every day I'm very cognizant of how incredible that experience was and I wish everyone could have it. The world would be a better place.
Kenna: If you could be a superhero, what would you want your superpowers to be?
Khara: My superpower would be the Care Bear Stare, which I could use to heal and help people in all kinds of ways.
Note: [In case you're not familiar, Wikipedia explains "the Care Bears' ultimate weapon is the "Care Bear Stare", in which the collected Bears stand together and radiate light from their respective tummy symbols. These combine to form a ray of love and good cheer which could bring care and joy into the target's heart."]
Kenna: What's your guilty pleasure?
Khara: Lately I’m addicted to Reed’s Ginger Ale. It’s an issue. In preparing for creativeLIVE our recycling bin has been overflowing with bottles. I keep telling myself that after creativeLIVE I'll slow down, but recently I've been sitting at my desk all day, preparing my workshop and drinking Reed's ginger ale!
Kenna: What scares you?
Khara: Ignorance and closed-mindedness.
Kenna: If you weren't a photographer what profession would you pursue?
Khara: I'd be an unemployed wannabe trapeze artist.
Kenna: What story does your family always tell about you?
Khara: My family loves to tell the story of when they took me to Sesame Street Live and I peed my pants when Big Bird came out. It was Big Bird on roller skates, who wouldn't? And this was just last year! Just kidding... I'd like to clarify that I was a toddler, so it was age appropriate pants-peeing.
Kenna: I'm in awe of your 3200 mile cross-country bicycle ride/teaching tour, the [un]Tour, that you and your husband Emir kicked off almost a year ago. What were the most surprising parts of the trip?
Khara: Like so many things in life, it was not as hard as I thought. You don’t have to be Lance Armstrong to pull that off. We met people of all ages cycling across the country, literally people of all ages up to their 70s! I was also blown away by the drastic changes in landscapes. One of the most dramatic was between Arizona and New Mexico when the scenery went form arid dessert and brown rock to luscious green pine forest in just the turn of a corner. Another wonderful surprise was discovering how generous people can be to strangers.
Thank you Khara for spending the time for all of us to get to know you. I look forward to two incredible days of learning to speed up my workflow and dive into the wonders of combining InDesign, Photoshop and Lightroom to build albums and marketing materials for weddings, seniors and portrait clients! I have a feeling my face will hurt from smiling so much, which is the best way to learn!

Hi there everyone at CL, love what you do and how much you all are helping all of us around the world with the very generous and talented people you have lecturing. I have to say I am a repeat offender at purchasing your courses and love, love, love them. I do have one small problem. Have been able to get all of day one of Khara's except the wrap up and none of day two, is this because they haven't been put up yet or maybe something is wrong from my end? Thank you in advance sue - admin@nuveaximage.com.au
