I would love Zach & Jody to discuss how to get referrals and business marketing when you have very few people to refer you. This is especially tough for us beginners that are trying to get busy! Referrals are GREAT, but doesn't really help when you have very few brides that are spreading the word.

I would love Zach & Jody to discuss how they negotiate pricing with customers, do they offer say.... 3 packages and let them pick?

And how did they start charging more than $1500- They mentioned they started off with some package that offered everything for $1500 how do you grow from that, what do you offer, how do you start charging more. Thank you so much for the workshop!

...establishing your brand and getting your name "out there".

Having to work between 11-14 hrs in my "day" job and being on night duty with my kids when needed (wife works hard watching them during day), my time is somewhat limited so I need to maximize every minute. What are some of more effective methods that you've come across in promoting and establishing brand identity? Please note that I do understand that whatever methods you may suggest would have to be tweaked to match the brand/style that I want to convey so that I'm not sending mixed messages to potential clients...just need some guidance :-)

On a slightly different topic...Zach, are you going to join the bald club for men??? We're waiting? We should discuss hair clipper gear or the hot debate of Schick vs Bic vs Gillette razors.

I'm in the same boat. Little time, and not really knowing how to maximize what little time we do have for branding and marketing.

During your first year (2007? before the rethink), what was your approach (target and pitch) to building your portfolio?
How and when do you two utilize additional assistants?
Ditto on the following:
-How much time do you spend running your business vs customer interaction vs actually shooting?
-The ups and downs of running a business as a couple.

I would love Zach & Jody to discuss...
-tips to keep focus and energy over a 12-17 hour day for a typical (at least my typical) wedding day.
-how to get focus absolutely perfect on eyes when it comes to portraits
-how to work with 1.4-3.5 fstops so that photos are crisp, my challenge has been that chest is in focus but face is a little soft
-tips on how to direct and pose formals so they don't look like cardboard cutouts
-When/How did you know you were ready to photograph a wedding? How about weddings on a regular basis?
-How much time do you spend running your business vs customer interaction vs actually shooting?
-do you shoot the "basic wedding" as well as your artistic take? If so how do you balance the art with basic shots? In your final customer presentation do the basic and art shoots look very different for you or do you match them in some way, color for example?
-what monitor calibration software do you use?
-the most difficult lesson learned early in your career?

Thank you for putting on the course! I can't wait!
