Hi John,
I when through your portrait section and observed almost all of your photos have a fantastic glossy looking eyes; Transparent as glass. Can you tell me on how to achieve this? Also what sort of post production tools you use/required (if any) to achieve this?.
Thanks,
Sal

I was looking at some of your posts on this website and I conceive this web site is really instructive! Keep putting up .There is currently quite a lot of information around this subject on the net and some are most definitely better than others. You have caught the detail here just right which makes for a refreshing change.

Yes some of these portraits are amazing. I would like to see a video posted on youtube. I would buy youtube views for it and get some good publicity.

Maybe its because of the editing power or we say the camera does the trick. Here at euros du vatican 2006.

Before surgery I couldn’t see anything clearly without glasses. Even worse, all outdoor activities were a strain. Needless to say I couldn’t score many points playing basketball. At work I wasn’t able to use a computer for more than an hour before I started getting head aches. This not only affected my performance but also my attitude. Now that I’ve had the surgery I finally have a full field of vision during every waking hour. Being able to walk outside with no glasses or contacts and seeing everything is amazing. I highly recommend a Cataract Surgery

Hi Sal.

For me, the portrait is about the eyes and making a connection. So thank you for noticing. I think that most of it comes from having my light close in so that you can really see the eyes. I like the pupil to be constricted so that I see a lot of the iris with all its colors and patterns. This is controlled by the ambient light level in the studio (the modeling lamps in the lights). That is difficult to do with camera flashes that don't have modeling lamps. I did a blog post a few days ago about pupil size: http://blog.cornicello.com/2012/01/do-you-like-or-b.html

I do minimal post-processing, but I have set up a brush in Lightroom for the eyes. First thing is that I do NOT make the whites of the eyes brighter. That almost always looks fake to me. Here are the basic settings for that "eyes" brush in Lightroom: Brightness +40, Contrast +20, saturation +6, Clarity +18 and Sharpness +29. This is a starting point, I may move those around depending on the individual. I also have my flow and density both set to around 80. I only brush over the iris. Not the white of the eye.

Hope that helps!

John
