Do you use InDesign to design your wedding albums? Does anybody have any good templates?

InDesign is the best albumdesign tool available.

Sure, it is a feature monster, but for albumdesign you only need about 2% of its features. If you extend it with a plugin like AlbumPro (www.album-pro.com) or AlbumFlow, you will be fast as hell and more precise than you have ever been before:)

If you are looking for templates, try the demo of AlbumPro. It comes with almost 200 free templates.

The most difficult thing is a good export from InDesign to the final JPEGs to send to your album vendor. To be honest, the JPEG Export of InDesign sucks:)
In my eyes the "perfect" export looks like this:
1. Automatically resize the Album to the final dimensions (create once and use many times for different album sizes).
2. Resize each image to its final size in the album and sharpen it after the resizing to the DPI of the printer.
3. Save each spread as a single JPEG (well numbered) to upload to album vendor.
4. Please do it all with one single click:)
5. Maybe provide me with presets for the different album companies:)

btw..that's what the AlbumPro Exportfeature does for me.

I've used videos from Photography Concentrate to learn InDesign for albums and they were great! Made it very easy to learn and if you know PhotoShop already it will be more familiar. http://www.photographyconcentrate.com/awesome-album-design-skills/

I also recommend FotoFusion, it is VERY easy to work with and features A LOT of options for album design.

This may seem very elementary, but try Fotofusion by Lumapix. They have an Extreme version for Photographers. It is the easiest album design software I've found. The templates you create can be saved as .psd files for further PS tweaking.

I'm trying to use inDesign (for the first time) to layout a self-published book of photos. It seems to me that having some experience using Photoshop is a big help but not enough. Has there been any talk about creativeLive producing an inDesign (or Illustrator) workshop?

You all do great work! Thanks!

Try Lynda.com for their tutorials. Also AdobeTV might be a great place to start free(although Lynda is dirt cheap for the vast amount of info they provide.) and if you like a presentation go to that instructors site for more lessons.

I find inDesign overwhelming. I like to stick to my good old fashion illustrator!

Never heard of InDesign (yet) we are currently looking for something to help us put together wedding albums, never did that yet and need to start doing it, so we are interested in this topic also!

Thanks.
