4 Ways to Lose Weight During the Holiday Feasting Season

Holiday Weight GainOn Monday and Tuesday, November 11 and 12, nutrition and exercise expert Jonathan Bailor will teach a creativeLIVE class on how to lose weight while eating more and exercising less (you read that right). There is no need to starve yourself and cut calories in order to burn fat, Jonathan says, and he’ll cover the new science of slimming down, a strategic method that has nothing to do with starving yourself or logging endless monotonous hours on the treadmill.

In fact, Jonathan’s nutrition recommendations include the following 4 tactics, none of which require fancy exercise equipment, a huge grocery budget, or anything other than your mind and body.

1. Swap starches and sweets for non-starchy vegetables and protein.
As Jonathan writes in an article for The Huffington Post, “Studies show the only way to drop fat forever is to work with our bodies rather than to fight them.” The solution is not to eat fewer calories, but instead to eat more higher-quality calories.

2. Remember your ancestors.
According to Jonathan, “Unless hunters and gatherers hunted or gathered it, we are not designed to digest it and it will create a clog.” In short: Do not eat processed foods. The only exceptions to this rule are whey protein powder, fat-free or low-fat cottage cheese, or low-fat plain Greek yogurt — foods that were not available to our ancestors but are good and fine to eat.

3. Buy groceries in bulk to save money.
Eating high-quality calories means buying high-quality food, which can get expensive if you only shop for one meal at a time. Jonathan recommends shopping at bulk stores like Costco or Sam’s club to ensure eating well doesn’t drain your bank account. To see Jonathan’s own bi-weekly grocery list, click here.

4. Drink green tea (and lots of water).
Green tea does wonders for your body, Jonathan explains. “From a health perspective, the polyphenols in green tea have been shown to help prevent weight gain, cancer, hypertension, bone issues, diabetes, liver disease, and more.” In addition to protecting against these ailments, Jonathan says green tea has unique fat burning abilities having to do with the interaction of green tea’s polyphenols, caffeine, and the hormone noradrenaline.
