Our 5 Favorite Instagram Accounts to Follow

I have a confession – I’m not a great photographer. I’m just not. The good news is that I get to work with a whole slew of them. From behind-the-scenes shooters like Kate Hailey to local sensations like Kyle Johnson to world-renowned names like Chase Jarvis, I get to talk shop with some really, really talented people. Through these conversations and through browsing photography blogs, I’ve finally started to hone my artistic eye. Instagram has also been an extremely useful source of inspiration.

Here are 5 Instagram accounts that I recently started following that should be on your radar.

Dan Hole (dankhole)

I stumbled-upon Dan for nostalgic reasons. I was born in the great North West and his photos of the area are fantastic. His work takes you on a journey back and forth from the industrial man-made world to the the innocence of the great outdoors. Dan is a true Instagrammer — meaning he just uses his iPhone.

Sam Horine (samhorine)

Sam has built himself a nice little career using Instagram. He’s captured the hustle and bustle of New York’s city streets in a way that truly bashes down the 4th wall. Depth of field is his forté, but if you can find inspiration on this account from light painting to magnificent macro shots.

Dustin Vaughn-Luma (dvl)

To put it simply, Dustin makes the minutae of the every day look profound. He can make the little things in life look significant and the truly magnificent even more so. The thing is, he seems like an average guy — according to his website, he’s a UX Designer living with his wife and children in San Jose, CA. But you wouldn’t think that after checking out his Instragram profile full of jaw-dropping sunsets, portraits and landscapes

Nir Lesham (nirl)

I first found Nir while searching for photos of a sport I’ve admired for quite sometime – kiteboarding. He has a few crazy GoPro shots attached to the kite, looking down on the rider and ocean below. Then I realized this guy has ann eye for architecture and landscapes. From riverside housing to land-locked railroads, Nir’s got some stunning images of it all. What makes Nir unique is his connection and ability to capture water and reflections.

Chris Connolly (chrisconnolly)

Ok, so with over 460,000 followers, chances are you’ve heard of this guy already. He’s a San Francisco based pro, but on his account you’ll find powerful architectural and urban shots from all over the world. Which appeals to me more, his photography or travel habits? I can’t say, but I know one thing for sure: he’s got skill with that DSLR.
