Music & Audio Podcast 21: Shan Dan Horan of Artery

Shan-Dan1

Shan Dan Horan is VP of Operations at Artery Recordings/The Artery Foundation, where he works with artists including Chelsea Grin, Attila, Beartooth, Dance Gavin Dance, and many more. But before landing in the label/management world, he cut his teeth in the video production world. After getting his start working on corporate campaigns for blue chip clients like Kellogg’s and McDonalds on the agency side of things, he has directed videos for artists including Buckcherry, Carnifex, Exodus and Winds Of Plague.

We chatted about a variety of stuff under the heading of “music business,” including the difference between Vevo and YouTube and why artists choose one over the other, how much artists REALLY make from YouTube, what he learned from his past life in marketing that applies to the music world, and why bands sometimes have a very incorrect idea of who their audience actually is (and what to do about it).
