I purchased this class with high hopes of learning how to launch and successfully have an ongoing podcast to demonstrate my knowledge and for it to become my primary source of income. This class definitely suggests this is achievable by monetizing your podcast through either sponsors or demonstrating an expert status (that you then monetize in speaking or other ways). You will have a website hosting your audio podcast and podcasts hosted in iTunes to achieve this. In some ways, I felt this class did a good job particularly of reviewing the overall “Big Picture” strategy you should for your podcast such as: figuring out your “Avatar”, figuring out your goal for the podcast, determining your Niche, discussions on interview techniques. I think the advice from Wendy Stevens was particularly valuable. Though her example of “long tailed” keyword searching not longer worked. I think this class really failed in the more practical application of editing your audio or video podcasts and the uploading of the files to the various services. Still this is a three day class, if you need to learn to edit maybe purchasing a class on editing is the way to go. That all said, my real concern with the class is on a totally separate point. During the video (minute 16:07 in Day 01 Session 07) Kris points to the current success of her most recent students. They have the following podcasts: The Money Pillow, Guerrilla Marketing to Women with Wendy Stevens (not sure if it is the same woman I talked about earlier), The Power to Change with Scott Colby, Essentially Fit with Wess Murray, Go Beyond Health with Dr. Stacy Mobley, The Creative Wellness Podcast with Melanie St. Ours, and This Girl Means Business. Every single one of these podcasts have stopped being produced. Only two shows made it into 2015. Now, it is not Kris Gilbertson’s responsibility to make sure her students keep it going, so just as concerning is that her podcast’s last episode was on June 6, 2014. So if no one mentioned in the class and the instructor of the class are not producing new episodes (because one can assume they are not generating a sufficient income), then how viable and relevant can podcasts be to the success of your business? The answer is I don’t know.

I was really looking forward to this course. Unfortunately I was disappointed with it. It was very confusing at times. Particularly so when discussing areas with multiple layers that needed explained; ie, Libsyn. Often times Kris would discuss topics that lead to class questions about other connected areas that she planned to discuss at another time. So we just had to "parking lot" the question. It got more confusing the more times that happened. I also think that it would be helpful to have multiple examples of the same slide or a live link to the application so we could see it being done vs having to visualize. I'm attempting to submit my show to iTunes now. So I was hoping to understand that process better. After several times of watching the segments that covered that piece, I'm a little frustrated that I still have a lot of uncertainty. I intend to finishing the remainder of the class. I'm sure there will be very valuable content. It's just that the whole getting the file from MP3 to the podcast directories and understanding Libsyn was very important. Just my 2¢ worth. Hopefully I'm in the minority. Absolutely LOVED Alex Blumberg's class was amazing!! Didn't want you to lump me in as someone who complains a lot. I rarely do.

This is the best $149 I've spent on my blogging/podcasting journey so far. The course was so rich, so jam-packed with information and ideas. I am on fire with ideas (couldn't get to sleep last night because so many ideas were rattling around my brain!) and truly inspired to go out there and do it. I'll be posting my podcast launch on the Facebook Group when the time comes. Thank you, Kris!
