Day 19: Glamour Shoot on Location & Shooting with Flare

so many people say to me what if I don't have a studio so today I'm taking my style of glamour photography on location and I want you to do the same thing we're going to look for flat walls we're going to look for corners we're going to look for easy beautiful light we're going to look for good locations and we're going to look for sun flare let's go go and create amazing gorgeous portrait's outside hi everyone we're shooting outside we shooting outside today and we're trying to replicate what I do in studio outside can you do it outside can you create the same looks let's have a look first of all found this amazing amazing alleyway got this beautiful did ivy on the walls I only have a very limited space that's not in direct sunlight clearly I cannot put her in the light but I'm going to show you that I can't put her in the light and why so I have this block here and I would have that perfect there but I have a karen my way so obviously I can't shoot there I've got here about a meter a...

nd a half away from the backdrop and the reason I've done that as I'm shooting here at one point eight let's have a look at the reason why when I shoot up here ok amanda's won't you stand nice and tall and bring you tend towards may let hands yet now stand up straight and just bring your chin forward and down so just reach in there to go stadia tip this way slightly and forward and down when I'm here and I focus on her I have a look at this I'm at one point eight see that beautiful drop away on that background background lets me let me put my it's up up to two point eight and see what I'm going to get obviously have to adjust my shutter speed ten forward and down and their area ten down a bit more that's two point eight okay still getting a nice drop away let's push it up teo if stuff up to four point oh because I'm on my thirty five mil which is a one point four leans okay ten forward and down and give me a slight tip that girl stay there little way smile in your eyes gorgeous right and at four point I you're gonna like drop away but my per food if stop here is going to be one point eight or two point eight two point eight good one point eight might be pushing it a bit far with the eye have a look at this what I'm about to do is change something stay there for a second she's got no bounce coming into here we're all ambient light so I'm gonna push you tenfold amanda stop or you've got a little teardrop okay lips together tiny loss smile in your eyes now I'm going to stay exactly still and I'm going to bring a reflector and so bring their victor riding like this up and onda and have a look at this I won't change my exposure and I just jumped up entire stop off under her eye so pull it down reflect back up that's it push your chin towards me gil don't go down with you here that's it now ten forward and down that so and stay there beautiful have a look at that light bounce up where two point eight now check this out I don't have a fan I do need a tissue so um I'll get you can you get me a tissue she's just having a little bit of a leaky I I don't have a fan on location so I'll show you the best thing better than a fan and that is a reflect us okay I want you to keep just push your chin towards made it's a girl stay the anan away suddenly leaking but that's right okay push your chin towards me don't move tiny little smile in your eyes loosen that good girl okay I want you to fan that reflected for me christine really fan it I'm going to get it on the down so relax your eyes kinda good girl there it is and big fan nice big suite good gil so if you can't take a reflector with you if you can't take a fan with you best thing you could do is family here like this I will pretty much fan it I would do anything it takes to get this here okay so I can get it here to fly and I'm getting it on the down fans so when I'm down I'm reflecting light back to her face so if you could see that in fact coming show instead of my position and just film here to the faith and watch that reflector guy just got a leaky I who's got make up on the eye that's right so the here come bored and you watch the difference insurance camera when I bring that reflected up you know two stops to the face just like that making sure you've always got a little reflector in the car and I can fan it and get light as well your purpose outdoor clever all right let's try one thing let's push you back here twigs right there and even at two point eight in my camera now oh I'm liking the winds picking up here even without the fan bring me a reflector christine pushing chin forward a little bit honey that's the one tiny little smile okay up and under making sure you're looking for that like that don't tip you hit away from the amount of push forward and down down down tiny little smile that's the one ok I love that now this close to the backdrop straighten that we hit again push your chin forward and down stadia I'm getting a bit of wind picking up now so I'm just going to drop my exposure back down I met okay let's see my shutter speed is at four hundred I met two point eight at one sixty because it's quite bright even they were in shape now I'm going to drop it down even more on goto one point eight my stop so that you can see this drop away tiny little smile through your mouth gurgle that's perfect give me a fan christine big sweep big slow sweep down sets it and I could just see it light up the face and pushed here at at the same time gorgeous so nice interesting backdrop something I dont you should get something I don't even have in the background so what I've done today as I found some twigs and I'm going to put a mandarin toe a black dress I'm going to leave here in front of the twigs and I'm going to photograph his through twigs to see if I can get a really gorgeous look so I'm going to go and get her changed and because we're on location she's getting changed in the back of the car wait going to film it live working okay we'll go get her changed were perfected one second so we shooting back on this amazing background with beautiful dicks on the wall so I would've got some twigs and I'm going to shoot through them so I'm going to show you how I focused through them so what I'm going to do is just get susan to come and stand right with me and hold them and we're gonna kind of fan them out like this and the reason we fanning them out is because I need to be out of chute here and find the focus between here so first of all I'm going to try about the same distance of the background I'm also going to use there is a reflected there so susan's going to do two things going to hold that light she's gonna hold the light for me she's gonna hold the twigs I can't man is gonna push your chin forward and then fled in her hands out your here is blowing beautifully right now and she's trying not to look freezing cold I'm going to shoot through the gap and what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna find my focus on her eye and a soon as I find my focus on her eye the twigs and the front go out of focus push your chin forward and down good girl say they're okay now that is beautiful in it I want it even closer so susan's going to come closer I'm going to come closer and I'm going to get right up to this twig here I'm gonna find him I'm through them so I'm going to do two things one is I'm going to cross him mouth there it is beautiful tiny little smile in your eyes amanda that to go okay no I'm going to hold the twigs suit and I want you to find her here because I want to get some double action going through here and I want to try and get this focus and that's it so susan's kind of fan uh okay and just not so high push it in towards me amanda that's one stay there here it is and uh look at this okay I need more fan action and I need a more relaxed mouth on you on I just want to pull the hero so often when I'm outside I don't have a fan I can make the here look like it's blowing be really good if we had more there it is so I'm getting that's really dark and gorgeous and I love it so let's tune the twigs up a little and see if I can frame here so as you can see I'm going to pull the focus on the twigs so that you can see with a threat and there it is and then I'm going to push the focus through so that you can see where I met so by pulling focus onto the twigs and then push throw their iss and then you can see the difference there and it's creating this sort of dark moody yeah this side because this is the wind side and blow in the front here well well look like they're out there that's it and we just mess outed and nice and big you get perfect little dust now I love it when it blows across the face like that and this is a gorgeous look here we're going through twigs we've got a reflector hands flat going nice and tall and just head pushing your chin towards me see how it here's to slipped in here I love that I'm shooting through sorry just put that there for election mouth could go sitting over there you can just see them is its movement and it's just so perfect I think it's just working really really well okay one thing I might try that I maybe let's just try against here so from here just like I used the wall amanda I just want you to lean with one shoulder that take your weight away it's all about taking the weight away from here like we normally do that's it and now open your body up to may I want to shoot back on this wall I want your chin to come forward I feel like your lower body is towards me so just move your shoulder forward that's perfect now chin comes forward only a chin and then down here right so here we go there you may have to come around this side sean if I if you feel like you're getting two blocks from that camera you can get this angle because she puts it reflector up I'm going to be here I'm going to get you to pull that away right away there it iss and I'm gonna take another shot when it comes back up go see that can you just see how bouncing light up that easily can make such a difference in just such a difference to the face and you know what it does is it saves you on the retouching we're shooting on the forty five amanda turn your body away from may you yet just your body feed as well always move the feet okay now push the chin towards may everyone does the same thing now push your ten down that I'm still shooting at one point eight eight hundred and one hundred sixty so I just need lips together in a tiny little smile in the eyes more more more more on the mouth could kill there it is and that's beautiful well let's bring twigs backup and frame here with them right up and over the top sorry about the traffic but that's what you get when you're shooting on location I'm going to shoot through the twigs I'm gonna pull the focus on the twigs first you can see where they are then I'm going to pull a focus through the twigs at one point eight so that you can see exactly where I am and I love their let's open it up a little weed but more use it as a frame and there it is I'm going to pull the focus on the twigs uh her her it is now I'm gonna push through there it is dropped that bottom lip amanda drop it straight down now shut up to me now relax your mouth and really that to give me that beautiful little twinkle in your eye you got it girlfriends all right I love this let me just take a few more here just to show you this background just bring that little reflector are on belt out and to me that it could well there it is okay from here chen ford and down stop wowser you are a beautiful redhead look right from there yeah all right push that tend towards may work that our around the body just took that down suits just to touch in art relation mouth good girl enough a little bit more election math okay here we go now what happens if we don't have such a funky wall you say I'm sure you can find frankie walls anywhere but let's try and mix it up a little bit let's turn the camera around and go back to him as you can see we're in bright daylight we took three steps over away from the shadow there's no way I can shoot in this light the only way I could possibly shit in the lightest of all put a cover over here it's not going to work together into the shade unfortunately it's the only thing we can do but let's do a three sixty around the alleyway and show you what I can see here because justin and if sean follows me just really quickly I can take her from the ivy wall to the brick wall here come here amanda exactly the same thing if this works with here outfit then obviously this is gonna work and I contend here this way okay and just body away that's guilty in your hope away from may bring this hand up tio here that disobey lower and from there dropped this and we're going to go to this wall because there's an alleyway also has an open concrete slab and I think this is gonna work and then I'm going to try and pick up this light clear so let me see if I could just pick up this lightly and now come towards may sean if you come around and just see if you can get the clear this is an amazing light source susan do you want to just raced out there and show us a pullback some were really good so we can cut to that I want you to see one thing the light is really high at the moment but look at her here and it's picking up the light so beautifully from here let's just go hands on your hips put your feet apart and just rock on toe one hit okay whichever one you feel the most comfortable on and then I want that hand a little higher that's it now drop your shoulders down could gil and leave this hell boat out and then take this one back that's one and now push your chin towards may because when you pose everybody instantly tax that chin and and now chin down a little weave it like that that's a stabia see her come into play a face comes out beautifully I'm going to see if I can pick up that sun flare right at the top of I can't I'm going to go to a more open location where I can shoot it straight back into the sun I want you to relax your mouth straight down good girl there it is and of course if I want flair but take my okay my dear push forward forward there it is okay hands down straight down by his sides okay chin down to me now there it isthe okay he goes this way stop good girl okay I'm not quite getting into that clear it's not cheeks to define the face okay you need to drop your shoulders and move your hips don't let people be on an odd angle so that's it stay there and put this hand behind that kick your hip out more and I want you now to push your chin forward because as soon as she said of moving her hips down now that's it they're more stuff all right since she started moving her hips to chin tucked in I'm going to lift this up like it's flying it's exactly where I wanted to be and I want you to put your chin towards may a mentor and down down down down stop okay relax that mouth I want your mouth to relax open into here in shoot closer to the ninety than the forty five I'm coming around obviously that hole right there it's going to be annoying but I'm goingto photoshopped that up because it's going to be posing example of what we can find let's go and have a look I don't know what else is here we just stopped when we saw this wall let's go and have a look at what else we can find so what we're going to do here is have a look at this I'm an odd light she's in half light this is not gonna wick however look at this this is a little alcove we're right next to a dumpster okay so I got out of the dumpster a nice clean piece of cardboard so amanda can sit up here now remember I'm not about getting graffiti and old walls and things like that I'm a beauty photographer graham a photographer I like to be up close so what I'm looking for is something interesting but what I'm really looking for is that light there because I needed to take you out of that half light I needed to take it out of this strong light which I cannot photograph hair and find something interesting and the first thing I'm going to get her to do is scoot this way and then lean onto her shoulder there and you could just bring this elbow out and then shape your body with it so touch your hip that's it and you know down here and then that's it and then bring your chin towards may a soon as I engage her chin I know I'm there and now I just have to make sure her body line looks really great being the sound that's it and just touch the ground so here arms that gorgeous this looks people pull it down and now I just need to straighten you hit up a tiny bit and bring her chin down this way and slightly this way I don't know that I'm so much into the graffiti but let's have a look how it looks and see if we can make it look good and if we can't we'll move on I kind of like this chin up a little wee bit tiny little smile I think this is beautiful or okay let me just push up my exposure I'm just a little bit under and I'm going to go toe one point eight because I like shooting it they're right here there it is and okay straight away I'm getting a beautiful light to her face now so here tiny little smile in your eyes good girl there it is and I can shoot it this way come in straight away here and I'm going to pick up a little bit more graffiti on either side push your chin towards me and down that to girl stadia and down a bit more so I'm quite close is you can see I'm picking up that cross section I think this is gorgeous I think it works for here I think it would definitely shoot a suit a high school senior and magnon if she was in a really glam dress it would probably look even better from here I'm not too interested in this because this is a bit busy for me so let's go and find what else we can find I can have a look at this doorway over here let's going staying in there again I don't know so much about the orange brick but once you see what I can do inside a doorway of light you'll start looking for other doorways of light so we found this doorway let's have a look at that she's halfway in the light now let's have a look and take a shot to your face this is not gonna work even at one point eight so if I get it it slowly starts slipping backwards stop then she's out of the light there pushing your chin forward and down no reflector needed she's got a perfect light just took this way for me and bring your chin down now stop don't move even if I come up to here now and shoot back this way then I'm tiny little smile in your eyes she's got no direct sunlight just a little bit more smile now I'm dealing with the doorway on the right so let's step over here this way ok now two things now I'm photographing breaking brick instead of white doorway and all I have to be oh is get here in a position and she can leaning it's a wall so I can either come up nice and close here if you don't leave just yet stand up and just go back three inches that way okay now just drop your chin down and here it is from a right there now I don't know whether you like the orange brick so matching suits amanda's really here turned down I don't know the orange is really our choice of color for a big ground but what we can do is shoot it and just so that you can find doorways and alcove away from light okay from here now just laying with you're out there good gil this hand goes around all right now just good is leaning on that wall and I'm gonna push you turned down half an inch stop good girl don't move and there it is there and I can shoot this way too so I'm still a bit of a local give me my sittings I'm still at one point eight twelve hundred and fifty it's my shutter speed I met one sixty I so we've got a lot to like coming in here bring your chin down just a little bit and I just need a little bit more in the eyes good gill bette useful well look at that I mean that is just so gorgeous it doesn't matter to me that some brick I'm goingto have a boon in this highlight bring your chin forward and down to me a little way but more amanda stop right there that's where it's at for me as long as I'm finding gorgeous like like that I can always take a beautiful shot that would work with a couple that would work with mother and daughter that would work in a beautiful gown that would work in a slinky black gown all of that works for me just finding alcoves oh look at this blue gray wall okay how about we put how about we do a change of outfit we go to her redress dark gray war well let's go over there and there's no light okay getting changed in the car again this is all for may about getting all of my angles and I'm going to talk about a one eighty as you know I'm all about the one eighty met means one hundred eighty degrees around amanda means I start here I come in and I shoot all the way around to here and I'm going to find one hundred eighty degrees on a wall and I'm going to stop halfway so I'm going to start halfway and I'm just going to start here first shot I always take chin forward and down nice noisy location today everyone sorry about that way asked everybody to be quiet but they said no okay chin towards me and down there it is just taking the elbows in instead of out so we take the alberts and by taking the hands out and they're both coming this way that's it sooners here elbows come in she's now got an hourglass which works better for her body and I'm gonna shoot with that so I just want you to bring your chin towards me there stop and towards me and down a little way but more I love this okay this is a beautiful shot keeper when I tucked it elbows to first drop the shoulders down and bring your chin towards me a little bit more and I'm going to go lower because I feel like I slimmed down too much all right so I'm gonna just flicked the here back here making sure that when they're not working against may bring your chin towards me and ford and down that to go do that again that tiny little smile is beautiful let's put some space above her because we don't just want to crop everything straight up and down that absolutely gorgeous well stadium and I just need you to bend this elbow and more unlike one shop sorry whose shoulder to her chance so make sure her face follows you and chin around this way a little bit more make sure her face follows you and then make sure her shoulder connects to her chin filtering around your face nice and full of we can wait okay there it isthe right I'll open this up now so nice and tall up into that light a manner but come right up onto tippy toes just get as far as you can and then bring your chin forward that's it so I'm getting here to come right up into my life way only have daylight we only have natural light would take whatever we can get so if I have to get her up into the light that's okay just tip your head this way and then just give me a chin down this way that's it see this fleet coming through chamber this way let's go stop okay I'm going to go it straight down to here and let's see what getting here I'm going to shoot through the plant because I just love this right now I'm just going to come into here I'm at one point eight I met a lot this way this's beautiful let's go into the light here let's see if I could just shoot through if there's too much twigs here I'm gonna pull back straighten you hit up amanda that's it an election mouth fear good girl little we smile lips together okay I've just got to clear those twigs of these two matching front I'm gonna pull back there it is okay away like this a lot stabia I'm just going to pick up the clear I've taken my lens hood off not that I had it turned around the right way anyway okay just got people walking in my background so wait a second it's come under here chin towards and let's try and do it without that reflector so if you happen to find yourself on location without a an assistant that you can still find this clear so I'm going to be here up in her eyes and is going to come down I'm gonna pick the flare up until it hits your face and I'm just gonna look for that focal point and tiny little smile so that's without susan holding that reflector up to may so if we have to we can do without it all right from their tune your body completely side onto me this way that's it I can't sitting nice and tall in fact that's it and let's just bring your chin all the way to the shoulder and work that shoulder forward that's the one I'm going to shoot down into the twigs give me tip this way and chin goes back this way he's directly side onto me now you're going to pick up a much clearer as they can and to hear I love this position bringing chin towards me and down good girl don't move well okay chin down a bit more election mouth can you just give me a match
