Organizing Your Supplies

Let's, talk about supplies. The bane of everybody's existence who has a giant download folder. What about in the online audience? Does anybody have a giant download folder? You don't. You are amazing. Yeah, I download folder files my seventy files. I probably have, like, ten gigs on my right. Now, it's really? We're going to talk about how you can organize and get those ten gigs out of your download folder. So there are different ways to organize and it's going to depend on the way that you the way that you prefer to scrap up I mentioned in another class. I am a one kid scrap scrapper. I generally stick to the product that I downloaded unless I need something like an extra alphabet. So let's, talk about the people who are one, kits, crackers, it's interesting to some of our viewers, the same they've done long, traditional scrapbook, and they're only really sort of getting into digital scrapbooking now, but they are trying to get more organized as result. But sean in texas said she's, t...

otally organized because she has o c d well, I think that's what it thinks attach of o c d to be completely organized all the time, but marty says her download folder is just crazy, it's crazy big, because I mean we downloaded and we want to play with it we don't want to organize a we don't want to spend the time moving files around but really if we are it's one click but if you have seventy eggs in your download folder it's a lot of klicks last night if you're doing it as you're downloading please if you can get into that habit, do it do it as you download I know that a lot of people use their download folder as a way of storing things that they haven't used yet um that works too that's pretty much what I dio and but I don't scrapbook as much as I used tio so I just keep downloading things that I haven't used it gets bigger and bigger and bigger so what do we d'oh to make sure that this one thousand end up in this organized mess now method one is the one way that I see most people organizing their stuff and that is by store they organized by store sweet shop designs and then they have a folder for each of the designers at sweet shop designs and I'll have another store and all of the designers at that store now this has some advantages and have some disadvantages first of all, um the pros if you're great at remembering where you got something and who designed it perfect wayto organize for you I am not that awesome if you always use the same stores the same designers if you never step outside where you love to shop that can really work for you but what if you're shopping at like six different stores and fifty different designers it can get kind of overwhelming and that's when you start forgetting that you've already purchased something because it goes on sale and you're like hey that's really pretty but it was so pretty that you already bought it so the cons it's hard to keep track of everything you have and you can forget something what if your scrapbooking halloween pictures down the line and you're like hey I had that one halloween kit that had a franken frankenstein in it and I really need it but I don't know where I got it and I don't know who designed it so how do I find it that could be a problem now what about this is always this is my ocp problem what about when you have a collapse kit like more than one designer do you create a collab folder oh my gosh so doesn't get out of control like you have stuff by this is either in this designer mixed with this desire in this design or do you do you just put it in one designers folder like the designer that you a favor do you put it in both designers holder now you have a duplicate copy I mean this I just can't organize that way and I think that a lot of people involved out of that as they start gathering supplies because nobody can maintain a memory well, some people can but I am not that person so let's talk about the way that I organized and again I am a one hit scrapbook er so this really works for me and we'll talk about people who love to mix and match after this um I sort I have a folder on my desktop we're not made a stop in my folder structure called scrap of kids and so I keep all of my product and inside my scrap of older I haven't organized by theme so that way when I go through it's easy for me to find that one halloween kit with the frankenstein is you started this but after you shared your so yes, so yeah, if you think about it it still can be it depends it can be kind of hard to organize still because sometimes kids don't have a scene so I have these kind of catch all themes in here I have things like girly because I don't use a lot of girlie kids, but sometimes you're just so pretty I can't help it so I have a girly kid I haven't inspirational one because that's really popular right now is to design like you khun do it kit so I haven't inspirational one for for the inspirational type themes and then I have, um, you know, I just have a theme for everything. Now the concert this is you end up with a lot of sub folders, especially if you're really more you break it down even farther than I did, you can have a lot of sub folders and then you can end up with hey, I have one soccer kid that I have in my soccer folder that's inside my sports folder, you can get a little bit too crazy that way, so you want to keep it kind of general, but enough so that you can find things no, another con is that sometimes you have to break up products, and we're gonna talk about templates and how I do that, and I always have to break up my products, my template products because of the way I organism, and it doesn't bother me, but some people might I think, oh, I have to keep this product together and it has to stay in one place that's not how I am, so we'll talk about templates. But first let's talk about the third method of organization, which is for those people who love to makes a match who like to pull from different products, you don't necessarily use one kit on their layout, and that is organizing by what the product is so you have an entire folder for all your banners you have an entire folder for all of your little lace fits your ribbons, your papers, your rick rack, all of that kind of stuff and that's for people who really love to say it is a lot of work that some people really like to scrapbook that way. So you have let's look in the buttons holder buttons from every single kid ever. Now, what are the cons of this besides the fact that it's a lot of work. Yeah, you have tio there's. No cohesion for your files anymore. You have picked apart your kid, so you know, we have this button right here and where's the kid that came with it, we have to now search for the rest of the kids and that could be a pain in the butt on debt could be harder to match your products effectively. We obviously when designers design kids we created in the color scheme and everything matches beautifully. Your pages going, tio come out and it's not gonna be mismatched. Eso with this method, if that is important to you, they can be kind of hard to match your products. You can get multiple yellows that might clash together, that kind of thing, so it can also be harder to two seems like if I have an entire folder full of buttons and this is these air just the buttons that I pulled out from my downloads folder when I was organizing for this class so this is just like oh I don't know just a few kids where the buttons when you have all of these buttons like I am getting total like scrappers log here which color green button do I want to use but some people thrive in this so I wanted to show it to um it's just not the way that I work also how people are organizing their files in the chat rooms some of them just use themes like boys girls holidays lorik was saying that's just how they break it up not so detailed but others say they go right down into the mine you categories in the same way that you do as well race interesting out different people you know approaching it now after we set up this how to organize we are going to jumping into photo show apartment for a new canoe view is just joining it we are going to be definitely where you spend most of the day in photo shop today but this first section is just all about organization and making sure that we're setting up for success before we get in the photo shop because all of this is very important not all the designer's name their product the same that's right? Good idea yeah yeah especially when you have the product that isn't named with their name right yeah or isn't named with the kidney that it came from unless you bitch process you know the name okay you can rename everything that I guess very pretty scrapping e by from that designer who doesn't name their files that way yeah it can be pretty ridiculous most of them have like paper one paper to people's faces element one element to yeah I me mine so I don't do element one element too but any favor one two three four and the elements are like button one button to that kind of thing ok so one more thing that we need to do to make sure that we are organized for our supplies specifically is that these blue folders they don't tell me anything and I I know that people who switch over to max they could be a big deal for them to be like uh yeah so how exactly do I see what's in these blue folders without going in and clicking every single one well I'm gonna show you how to do it on a mac um on a pc it's super easy all you would have to do on a pc is renamed or duplicate um copy and paste duplicate your preview image and rename it toe folder and when you re name it's a folder it's going to automatically make the icon of the folder the image of the kit and that will be a lot easier, but you can see that doesn't work in a mac mac so different it's a little bit more of a process I know that there's external aps that will do it too I don't I don't really uh use an external app if you make sure that you go in and do this when you download the kit, it doesn't really become an issue, so what you need to do to set it set it so that this blue folder is your kit image and not a blue folder you have tio double click on your previous image so that opens up in preview and then command a to select all come and see to copy and then you can close this and then you can go and click on the folder and hit command I for the information and it pops up with this little informational um, image window and you want to click on this image of the folder up here not this big image but this image of the folder up here and it'll highlight wouldn't click it only have to do is command thee to paste your preview image happy? Yeah, I've been dealing with that I'm trying to figure that one out so thank you you could see assumes I pasted it became the correct perfect image I know that that moment so you can do this with other things. Tio. If you have a disney vacation, you could use one of your photos and, uh, and do the same thing with that folder for the disney vacation. Even knew for anything that you want to have a different image for sure.

I'm currently halfway through the courses, and I am so glad I decided to watch these. I haven't been scrapping for very long, and am mostly self taught through tutorials found on the internet and youtube. I found that various concepts weren't explained to me (how to really use a template, designer intentions, how to use other layouts for inspiration) and so I sort of hit a wall trying to get further in scrapping digitally. This course basically broke down the walls and provided me with so much info and inspiration that I feel really comfortable in taking my efforts further. Whereas before I was thinking that I might always be stuck with a mediocre result :) thank you Traci!!
