Getting Started with Apple® iBooks® Author

So let's actually open it up if we don't already have it open we're goingto I'm gonna go down here it's in my doc, I'm going to open up my book's author and I get presented with what's called the template chooser template driven remember we remember this word this is the word we're going to talk about all day it's template driven here's the thing you have to choose a template and if you're using east using keynoter pages, you know one of your choices is blank. You don't have blank if basic that's about his blanky is you're going to get right so you don't have that choice here's the other thing, if you are used to using key note, if you choose a template and then you decide some pages you want to use a different template or you want to change your mind and say I don't really like this template, you could do that in keynote in ibooks you can't so make sure you have the template you want and here's what I do, I'm going to choose a template I'm going to look at sort of all the different op...

tions that are available to me all the layouts that air in that template given idea if I want that or the other thing that someone just suggested to me about a month ago never thought of doing this make a sample book of all these different templates that air here just using this samples that air there have them on your ipad so when you want to show a client who you want to decide what temple to use what you got on your ipad you go that's the one I want so just make some sample books that are there don't why that never dawned on me it didn't but now I know so we get this template chooser and we have some of the top these are landscape with portrait that means they're set up to be landscape orientation or portrait orientation no matter how we turn that both version two they came in and they added this new thing called portrait on lee so they've laid out some templates that I don't have a landscape version at all to it. So it's nice this one sort of a photo book all right, so that looks nice and there is no landscape portrait of landscape orientation to that at all and down at the very bottom you may or may not have some down here which aren't here because I don't have any yet those would be any the templates that I've created s o we don't have any better in there or any that we've purchased so if you notice there's not a lot if you had my books one there were none why is it's not like we stroll here we go so there were only six to start with in the original version right? So we've already got what we have here nine that air here and we've got some portrait only ones those were added in version two as well so you can purchase ones from other places or you can make one so we're going to do that later we're going to save a template and then that will be available to us next time so you have to choose a temple it there's a lot of different ways to do that we can come in here and just select one we like and what I always tell people is look at the the form of it to the foreman the layout don't look at the pictures because you're gonna put your own pictures in there anyway and everything's customizable if you don't like the font we don't like the colors we can work with that but kind of look at how things were set up because like I said in the morning, we're just going to work with the layout the template as is so we're working with italy and I kind of like this is the renaissance anyway it's gotta run is on a picture it's already got some italian looking pictures in it, so we're going to do that we can either double click on that template or wouldn't click it and clicked shoes and that opens up a new document and again what I always tell people is to go in here and we're going to look at something that we're really not going toe play around with much until later in the day I'm going to open to this little secret compartment up here and actually I'm going to jump out to my desktop really quickly if you can hold on a second and I am going to launch a program called mouse pose a which I didn't turn on before I started and I like that because it lets me have a little spotlight listen if it's all set up all right we're going to come in here and I am going to have thirteen apparently is my spotlight at thirteen there we go I will make some changes to that at the break it's a little harsh but now you really know where I'm pointing, right? So from zuman right there I was just going to zoom into the secret little handle all right there's a little handle there was gonna grab it I'm gonna pull it down and hiding in there or what called our layouts the's air the things that are controlling the template driving the template as they say all right, so I'm going to come in here and again I'm missing some scroll bars this is very odd I'm not sure why I'm missing school bars in here why is this? I might have to check that at the break that I can't scroll down, see anything that's below there? I don't know why. Um, so anyway, I'm well just look at the ones at the top and that's, all right? I just want to show you that as we come in here I can look and see that I have some chapter headings. So if chapter appear said f thirteen says chapter, we have one called section and we also have one called pages let's see if I can just scroll down with the arrows. Well, good. We could at least get there be the arrows. All right, something scored on these are my pages layout. So these are the ones that are available with this template. So this is what I do when I'm opening a new template. I look and see and go ok, I like it there's some text, but sometimes the pages have text and photos and that might be something I'd rather have and the section header there's one here that has a picture that's. All right. And then we've got two different chapter openings, one with text and one without so I kind of say, ok, this is great, maybe we'll use this one and the next thing I would do is come down here down to the percentage I'm just going to make it fit in window a little bit better, I can also choose to fit the width or the whole page in there I do fit page, it fits pretty good like seventy five percent on this screen because I can see the bottom I don't know what it is about not being able to see the bottom I'm just not sure that's really the end of the page even though it totally is but one of those things. So look at that and say ok, I like the way this layout looks because again, once I start putting stuff in here, I can't come back and change the template that's here got a question I dio I just a quick question on this, I know they're templates, but is there any way to like say, if you wanted the picture on the left side, we're going to talk about just the way we're going to work in the morning with the temple that's here yet so in the afternoon we can start moving things around and saving that out as a template so I don't have to move that every time I wanted on the left I will save it out as a template and then I have that for next time cso everything this morning is going to be using what's here because keep in mind they've already done all the work for you a lot of the work we're just going to say hey like this layout let's put in my text let's put in my my chapter headers and let's put in the pictures that are here sorry I'm going to pull this back up we're going to close up this secret secret passageway that's here and so I just wanted to have you look at and say ok, I like the way this looks so that's what I do when I open up a template I think you've noticed is that there's already pages in your book and they're all just moved in a little bit, right? So I've got a little bit of a hierarchy we've got a chapter head a section head we've got pages, so most templates already have one of each for you you don't have to use the one that's here sometimes what I do is I click this teeny tiny little disclosure arrow here and close that up and then I'm gonna pretend that doesn't exist. I'm going to work with new stuff and at the end I probably just go back and delete that chapter that's there because they've already put stuff in there now I've already got pages there and like I said reorganizing pages and rearranging there was a little difficult so I kind of close that up pretend it doesn't exist chapter one will go away and everything will move up in chapter and we'll be fine but I just want to get everybody familiar with the actual the buttons that are here and what the controls are first before we start working with that but I just want to show you that that's what you have by default you have a chapter a section head and a page had to start with most templates have that the ones you buy might not have that all the ones that are apple created have that in there for you already so we talked about landscaping portrait so I just want to show you what that looks like when you're working in your actual book so if I look at this section I'm going to click on the section head I can kind of see ok, I've got this section had here and I can scroll over here maybe let's I don't know why I have no scroll bars I may need to get this fixed because I don't have any scroll bars all right? So I will just keep that as is right now so so I want to look at what it looks like in the orientation so right now have a landscape orientation and I can see what it looks like in portrait wanna click portrait a lot of stuff goes away you'll notice that all right? So I just want talk about some of the different the widgets that air here, not the wages, the tools that are here along the toolbar, kind of get you familiar with the interface and how do I get around there's? A lot of pictures up here and a lot of stuff, so it's actually just look at that. So we've got some tools up here, but the great thing is I can add some tools as I go along, right? So I can come up under the view menu and I'm going to come down to the very bottom or says customized toolbar and if they throw a ton of icons at me, right, so I've got a lot of them to choose from. I like to add in the ones I use now, if you're starting out, you probably don't know which ones you like to use yet, but those will become very, very obvious in a while. So one of things I uses instant alfa, we're going to play with that later with with images, so I just grabbed it, dragged it up and I'm going to drop it inside there, and the other one I use all the time is mask. We'll put up there and I joked that mask scare me and photo shop I like this mask is pretty easy, right? So I know yesterday we had stuff unmasking I was watching it makes my head spin I like this this is easy, this is simple, right? So I'm just going to say done, I'm just going to click that if that any time I want to get rid of any of these that are up here, I can't just drag him and pull them off because that would be something that I would do what I was trying to work right? And I would get rid of my icon, so we need to go back up into the customized toolbar and then we can drag them off and they disappear in a puff of smoke, right? Someone put my alfa back up there all right? So anything that you want up there drag up there, find the tools that you use and put them up there, we've got an ad pages button this is kind of important I'm actually gonna go back to my landscape a little prettier. We get thumbnails over here otherwise looks a little boring, but when we want to add pages and when you do that just a minute we're going to do chapter section and pages when I do that, I would choose them from over here I've got my orientation buttons, I've got the different things I want to see off in the left hand side or, you know, things I want to see on my pace board, but my rulers formatting if you want to see just the book outline, I can see that stiff seeing those nice thumbnails. Springer thumbnails back it's prettier previewing published we're going over those later in the day, here's, where we have a lot of stuff that we use all the time we have what's called the inspector, and if you've used an apple product at all, you are very familiar with the inspector, so I'm going to click on the inspector and I get this huge wind down and there are thons of tabs across the top, and some of them have extra tabs inside here is well, so we're going to go over each of those when we get to those specific areas, but the one couple things you might want to look at first is the document specter this one just tells you information about the whole entire document and we're going to talk about doing some metadata in here is, well, that's important when we go to publish later. We've got some things that have to do with numbering and how things were laid out text we're going to go to a lot and texas kind of confusing cause we have the text inspector west of the font inspector over here, which is something else entirely and we also have, like three other places we can grab font information from someone close that up we've got some that when we're dealing with graphics what graphics look like metrics where they sit on the page and we have this widget inspector that's what we're going to play with widgets in the afternoon we start working with widgets that air here, but any time you want to do something to an object it's probably living in an inspector there usually menu items as well, but for me sometimes the inspector makes a lot more sense it's a little bit more graphic and we've got the little eye constant to guide us if you want more than one open, we're gonna work with text and maybe we want to work with rap is well, I can just always open up a new inspector to come down here and say new inspector and now I've got two versions of the inspector so close that up if I hit inspector here it actually goes away so we do want to do that we want to open up a new one if we need more than one good close that I'm going to click on the media. Inspector, this is where we get plugged in two into my photo as well. So all my all the every, all the albums that I have in there, which I don't have in there. So I also have to put those in there as well don't get some of this setup. Sorry about that. So in here I have all the photos that are in my eye photo library, they will all show up in here, so we're gonna actually be able to pull them in through from a folder on the desktop or through I photo if we have audio and we have something in itunes, we can pull it in from here, and if we have movies that are sitting our movies folder in addition, our user, our movies folder, we can bring that in as well, someone close that up and we have the color palette, and we'll look at that when we start working with objects in just a little while. So that's kind of where those things live. We've looked a little bit at the left side where I've got my layouts in the secret layout panel underneath there, I've got my book title, and again, this was created as part of the temple it it's just here. I have something called intro media this is where we had that video on the sample we just drag and drop that's what's great apple tells us dropped an image or movie file here just drag it in table of contents is being created on the fly for us again that's part of the template and we'll do glossary in the afternoon we start putting glossary terms in there so those air built in to everything that's here so again we're going to be looking at the template we're going to stick with the template as is all right that makes sense just kind of the the overview the oh, the other thing that we have here is we have a control bar that has all our text information, so why should click on text? I suddenly know what font it is color, whether it's bold italic, the alignment all that great stuff and some of that stuff also lives in the text inspector so some duplications sometimes of stuff all right, so let's actually look at creating some chapters and sections really quickly and so I'm going to close this up like I said, this is a chapter there's a section in there and there's pages as well and we don't have to you have a question can you load a purchased ibook into the aiba ibook author tool and see how the author created it can you load a purchased one? And I don't believe you cannot from the store because there's no way to actually get that file out if somebody gives it to you, you can absolutely open if they give it to you in the book's author the dot format because there's the ibooks dot ibooks format is the published version there's the dot idea one that is the back end of it how you open it up and look at it. Some of the books in the bookstore will have drom digital rights management applied and then you definitely so it's kind of gives it it it packages them up in a nice little locked file format for you got a question from caviar at the template that you're using right now has a book structure to it where has a cover chapters and table of content? What if I just won't need a simple brochure, flyer or document? Can I create a template without the book? Stryker sure are those options? The bandit structure is actually already there, the title is going to be there because it needs to have something to put on the bookshelf and the table of contents is actually there. The nice thing about the glossaries if you don't put anything in the glossary doesn't show up in the book, but the table of contents is there because it's the only thing that you can use to navigate through the actual document if you want to jump to sections. So you are kind of stuck with that and it's. So even if you are doing just a brochure or a portfolio or something like that, you do still have that navigation built in, so I'm sure there's probably some way to go in and hack the package that you make. In the end, there may be a way to pull that out. I have not tried that, though. Uh, stephen can is asking, can you use ibooks author to make magazines for newsstand? Can you create an important rhone templates? You cannot use it for new stand. No, you have to use one of the publishing systems, which is they will be publishing system or mag clouds, something like that because they're handling all the back and putting it together so you can use it for that. And I started. The second part was, I forgot. Can you create an import? Your own template? Templates? Yes. We're going to actually work and tweaking the template so we can save them. And then you can share them. And that's actually been there. Question? Yes, exactly and it's just yet, but you have to start from a template. You can't start from scratch but you start you can't start from scratch there's no yeah there's no blank to start with but you start with one that you like you can pretty much remove everything you want and start from scratch but as we'll see that it's actually easier toe use the likes that some of it just has the magic built in and there's no it actually add that it's just they're so you start with them their temple it remove all the content but you have the framework that's there and put your own stuff all right that's a girl bars are scrolls are bars yeah e I think you have to do with the break the photos okay and we can break early if you want the photos on access now or we can keep going and I think we'll be throughout we'll be all right because but yeah because we want to make sure we had close to the break anyway and I think we're running humans behind so ok people try and tell her some rain and some of the questions a little bit just settle down okay cool. So my scroll bars are there are they there? Yeah let's see here we go there some scroll bars all right? I like some good scroll bars all right and let's make sure of scrolling here I do look that we can scroll through the pages excellent. All right so I would close this back up and talk a little bit about creating these sections that we have I'm going to close this inspector as well as you see the panels just get in the way there's a lot of stuff having two screens is kind of nice sometimes just get those out of the way, all right? So like I said, he created a chapter, a section and pages we don't have to have all of them, but we do have tohave chapters there has to be at least one chapter, so again, going back to that question, do you have to do use the book format? It is pretty much set in stone that you have to have that, and when I create a new chapter, this is usually what I do. I close up the one that's here and I'm going to create a new chapter, even if that's the only chapter have because I'm going to get rid of this one that came with it, but you can't get rid of it right now because it's the only thing in the book and if I try to get rid of a chapter it wants to get rid of everything underneath it same thing if I get rid of a section it's going to get all the pages in this section, right? So you have to kind of keep in mind how that's held together. So I'm going up to the ad pages icon and say let's, add a new chapter, and from here I have those too layouts that we had that were inside there, so I'm going to do a preface, we're just gonna stick with chapter and I'm going to bring that new chapter and there's nothing in it, just a chapter. Now, underneath a chapter, I can either create a new section or it can start adding pages. I don't have to have a section so let's actually just ad pages and I'm going to come in here and add a page, a two column page of text. So now when I look at this, my chapter is here's the chapter here's, the two column text that's there, and I have some dummy text that's in there, so we have a look at that as well. We're going to start putting some text in there in just a few minutes, so right now what I've done is I've created that chapter I can then come in and create a section after this, I clicked on the page it's not really obvious sometimes, but I want to click on the page if I click on click on the chapter. Sometimes it throws it in right between the two and here's where that whole having an idea of how you wanted to go together because once I start putting pages in because these pages air magically linked as I add text or as I had pages it's going to continue to fill if I keep adding text it's kind of ad pages so those there's that magic linking text box that's there I can't cram another page in the middle of it, so it's kind of a pain to be able to do so you want to get keep that in mind when you're when you're setting that up so I'm going to come in here, I'm going to click on the chapter and I'm going to come up to add pages and I want to add a whole new section on all started with this section that's here with a photo in it all right? So it added it down below, so I've got my pages, I've got a whole new section and if I click on that section, I can add pages to that particular section and we could see how all that's linking underneath here if I were to select the section I was I selected, I've got this yellow frame around it that shows me they kind of go together, I could do a couple things with it, I could move this section up and that's okay, I can move it to after before that other section that's here, but I had to move it all together. The section and all the pages that are part of that section went with it. If I try and delete that, if I select that section and hit my delete key it's going to tell me it's going to delete all the pages as well, I can't just leave that section header, so if I decided actually didn't want it to start with this section head or I just wanted pages, I have to bring in a new page and then copy and copy and paste the text. So again, think ahead of time how we're setting things up and that to me has actually been the hardest part is like what's a section what's it you know what? Just his page? How does that go to guy? I'm going to cancel that we're not going to believe that, so I like to keep everything kind of closed up so I can kind of get a nice visual of what I have here and it's automatically numbering everything, forming his chapter one, section one and two chapter to close a chapter one I said, chapter two is what we're working with and then usually what I do so I don't have all these same images that air here it is I need to bring in an image and again, I don't have them in the eye photo here yet so let's just come into my folder that's over here, I just have them sitting a folder must show you how to bring in an image this way, obviously, or weaken drag it from the media panel that's there, but we have to set that up in a minute. So it's coming here to my graphics and I'm just going to grab some reason I don't have where's my venice ones let's, just grab one of these grab venice, and I'm actually going to do an apple trick where I'm out in the desktop and I start dragging it and then I'm gonna do command tab to bring back ibooks author then would drop it. And when I come over here and I hover over, this image knows it's outlined going to drop that in there, and one hadn't placed it right inside that image and that's, because this is what's called an image placeholder it's sitting there ready to accept any images that you drag and drop on top of that. And again, that's built into the template that's there, I'm gonna bring that I like to just drop a different picture in there so as I'm creating new chapters. I can actually visually see what's there, so I think okay, maybe this next one's going to be about florence let's jump out to my desktop will grab one I don't have the florence one sitting here, so I'll just grab a different venice one and I'm gonna drag and drop that on top so I can visually see off to the left what my chapters look like so it's something I do even if that's not the finish photo I'm going to use, I just like something in there to kind of give me a visual idea of that and the last thing I tend to do is coming here to book title because I don't like the way that's called book title and as you'll see it's going to take the book title or the chapter title and automatically feed that into places in the template so having untitled is no good and having book title is no good we can always change these later, but at least then I'm not just looking at this plane thing that's his book title all right, so let's call this venice something like that and will come in here and maybe chapter one I've got a couple different ways I can do this I can double click on the word entitled here it's in a blue box that tells me it's kind of special it's grabbing the chapter name so it's attached over here to this word untitled so I can either change the text here or here and it will change in the other place so let's say we're going to do we'll do with art on this one chapter one is all about the art chapter two let's actually change it here instead and maybe we'll call this architecture and maybe we won't because it's too big we'll call this, uh, music that sounds good to me well do music and when I click off of that it changes come on why's it on changing here and should change it to music here it didn't like the way I did that. All right? So we got art music and let's come in here and we'll take this one and we'll just call this history all right? So when I change it here it changes here, right? So then I just do that so I kind of can see my friend, but the outline that I've created a sort of coming together and I can see that I could also name the sections if I want to it's actually go appear we have a section and I can give that name as well because when I change that so we have art let's call this renaissance that's what's linked on into here so again when you look at how that set up later today but right now it's already built in there, so when I changed the section the section changes here the numbering is all built in for me everything's here I've got some image is ready to go in here I can just drag and drop in image in their change that out as well we're just going to sit with our bare bone structure for a few minutes, all right? So then what I'm going to do is we're gonna go out we're going to look at images and how to work with the images and how to work with different objects that we have inside our document, so I'm going to come down here to this last chapter I'm just going to add a page I'm going to add a page that I don't want any text on it's just blank the blank page and that's usually what I do, what I'm trying to set up defaults and things like that and play with the things and kind of get an idea of what is built into the image or into the template because some of the things that are there like the shapes that we're going to work with and frames there's a default style already there and it's built into the template and so I like to kind of play with that I kind of just make it this empty playground I just have this blank page so when I work with a couple of things that we have like shapes to start with and they're going to work with some images, so the first thing I would do is I want to come up to the shapes widget that's up here and I have a whole list of shapes so it's pretty easy, I just say I'd like a circle please and it's pretty light I'm sure you can see that on there, so the first thing we're going to do is we're going to change the color of this, but that is the default, so every time I create one let's actually drag it over here we can only see that there is an image that's here it's just a light one in this particular template that's here, so I want to change the color of that or the shape of that, so the first thing I could do is I can grab one of these handles on aiken drag out the shape I can hold on the shift key and that constrains the proportion let's change the color first actually, so we could see it I'm going to click on the color of panel and I'm going to choose a color I like to work with this over here these are the crayons kranz air fun, right? So we want to do that we're going to use the crayons and I have a lot to choose from here, and I'm just going to click on one that looks good, and when I clicked, you knows it didn't change. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't depend so much you've moved it around, but I do have it selected, but it does show what color I have up here so I can grab that color and just drag it and drop it and color it. Now, if you notice that's lighter than the color that's here, why is that let's? Open up our inspector and I'm gonna come over to the graphics inspector, which is this little tab here? I'm gonna look at that and it says the film is a tented image film, so they had some kind of pattern that was built in so they have a pattern somewhere and they said let's, fill it with that that pattern and that's what's there inside the template. I'm going to change that first of all to color let's just do a solid color, phil, and I get this weird thing dark and light. Why is that? That doesn't even look like that green it's their what that's telling me is that this color when we filled in this color when I click on this color it shows me that the opacity of that color is set to thirty one percent that it's kind of confusing because I have a pass ity here and I have it here that says it's a hundred percent no it's thirty one percent make up your mind what happened was the capacity was set in the color panel to thirty one percent so when I come over here to the color phil and I tell one hundred percent it will never get higher than thirty one percent so that hundred percent lives and that thirty one percent here is very confusing I know but what I usually do if I see this the first thing I do if I see these two colors this little hash mark across there I go into the color panel on come over here and I change this two hundred percent so I can either type one hundred percent or use the slider so it's a hundred percent now it looks like I expected it to great now if I want to play the capacity I'm going to play with it over here so I just want to make it a little lighter whatever it is I want to dio and I'm not just making it a tent and making it opaque so if there's something behind it I can actually see through it so they come over here and drag this guy over here on top, you know, the kind of blended in because the color from the picture is showing through so that capacity is here brings back to one hundred so we can see it now. We can play with that. So we've got this shape that's here and I can again change the color. I can also come over here to the metrics inspector, and this tells me where it sits on the page, so if I don't want to drag and drop, I know exactly where I wanted to be. I can come over here and tell it this is how wide I wanted to be let's make it one hundred eighty points wide and high and I can tell it where it sits on the page. Maybe I know it always what needs to be twenty points and sixty points so twenty points from the left, that's, the x axis and sixty points from the top of the page, I can rotate it, which on a circle is not going to show you anything at all, so we don't get a score on there. I could also flip it, which also isn't going to show you anything I can if I sit there and make this tall and lets, you know, flip it sideways, flip it up. Again, we don't see anything because as it's flipping it's given ourselves a mirrored image, I can't play with the rotation we could put images on that way we're gonna undo that, bring it back and actually going to bring it back to a circle that's actually close this up and I'm going to make this two hundred by two hundred so have a nice solid circle here so the colors let's go back to colors a little bit I have the crowns like I said, I like the crowns they're nice and named, but they don't give me much in the way of variety, right? So my choices of red are red or not, so we don't want you know we don't have much trace and I want to play with that so let's put that in this machine oh, by the way let's put that in there it's nice and bright red I'm going to come up to one of these other options that are up here the color wheel is nice let's choose the color wheel and on here I could just move this little point around to everyone I could see the color that it's changing too I can also then use the slider down here to change the intensity of that color for bringing all the way down I now have a black eye second, bring that down I like that color that's here I'm going to grab this color and drop it on top to make it that color I'm working with the phil right now keep in mind we haven't played with the line around it yet one thing I like to do if I would find a color I like grab that color and drag it down to these squares that air down at the bottom if I drop that I wish you could name them that would be really nice but instead I have to look at him and say oh yeah I remember that one and I can also pull this little dot that's here and get more so I have plenty that I can work with I can say I like this let's grab this color and now we have this nice combination I want to use all the time I kind of keep them in groups kind of put them where I want them to be let's actually come over here and go back into here and look at the stroke the stroke is the line around an image around an object so I can choose just a line and let's actually make it a little bit bigger right now is only two points and I have the color for the line as well someone click on that let's make this dark so we can actually see it right now have a line and I have a fila's well I have what kind of line? Not a lot of choices on the lines. We have a couple that look hand drawn, which were kind of nice if I make those a little bit bigger looks a little different so I can work with the objects that air there. So even though the default was thie image that was there, I can make changes to that as well. I can also decide that I want all new ones to look like that, so I'm actually going to do that in just a second, and I could change that. But there's, something I want to be aware of is that if I change with the default is anything that was created with the default will also change retroactively. So that's something to keep in mind and if you don't know where those are, if you don't, if there are any already laid out in the template, it could be a nerve in where you go. Yeah, this is how I want only ones to look and you do realize that's how they created something in the temple, it or something, and suddenly it looks like that that's, not the look you're going for so kind of keep that in mind. But I want to just work with this item for a little bit let's go ahead and add a shadow to it a little drop shadow automatically makes it black we could change the color of that we can change where the drop shadow sits so he changed the light where that is the offset is how far off that shadow sits from the object itself a little more obvious when I do that also I can choose how opaque that shadow is let's make it something like sixty percent all right? So it's a little bit less and the blur is how defused that drop shadow is so let's make that a little bit bigger fifteen percent a little softer so I have that and I can say great every time I create a new shape I would like it to look like this even if it's a square because of it come in here and say, ok, I'm ready for a square suddenly we've got we've gone back to the square that we had before that we started out with that's part of the template, but maybe even though we're working within the template, we want the shapes toe look this way every time so I can take that item go under the format menu under advanced and define the default shape style so I'm gonna go ahead and do that again if there were other shapes drawn with the default style that was built into the theme on I change this, those will rattle retroactively change they need to be aware of that, but now when I create a new shape, I don't have to go and do that all again because I took a long time to get that color that beautiful, awesome pink and red color that we have together with that drop shadow playing I'll have to create that again thank goodness right so you know, so I set that up so that that's my new default shape for everything that I create on there all right, that makes sense everybody had to create the shapes that are there and make them your default excellent. I thought you had a question. Yeah, I was just going to say I was playing around with the I noticed under this stroke option there's a picture frame option and there's some really cool things in there, so I don't know if you're gonna play with that at all but for photographers that's a lot of fun. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah cool. And I realized I went totally out of order on some of the things, so I apologize if I've messed up anybody on there, I think the whole scroll bar thing kind of just threw me off a little bit, so actually we are going toe see where we ten fifteen all right, let me just go a little bit more with the shapes that are here, and then we'll go back. We'll do. We'll do text and images after the break, we'll get all back on schedule, so apologize for messing anybody up there. That's what I get for working on paper instead of on my ipad, you see it, it's done howto work with that. I didn't know how to scroll on the paper. All right? So we went with images and graphics first. Instead, attacks were going to jump back to text right after the break. So let me just jump ahead here really quickly and look at some of the other ways to import the graphics that air here, right? So we had media that we had open photos have anything in the photos, so that's something else we're gonna have to fix. All right, so what we're going to do is we're gonna drag and photos from here so again, if you have them and I photo already, we have arranged by albums that will be a simple, simple way to bring those in.
