Shoot: Stripping Down Client Defenses

We're excited to have our next model in East come out here. What are you gonna be focusing on while you're shooting? And niece? I think we're gonna I'm gonna try to get more into the connection and try to get a little bit more into demonstrating uh, how I do it. I'm just gonna maybe have to repeat myself a little bit until she forgets you guys are here. Great. Yeah. Feel free to ignore us. A zoo. Muchas. You need to in order to do that, because that's what I love to see is I'm gonna ignore you guys completely for this one. I did yesterday. I did want to do some of those side by sides and I didn't find the opportunity. I forgot. So today, I just wanted Teoh Get that out of the way on the front end. And I'm just gonna be really focusing on her this time and not doing any. Like teaching. Just be demo ing. Great. Okay. I think we're going to set up the shot and started shooting. Cool. Can I get a fan? Absolutely. It's more for me. Really? Okay. So does she have a mic and come out and talk.

Or does she not even need to Mike? All right, so come over here. Let's let's let's sit this time and talk. I know it's weird because you were microphones. Want me to hold it like we're on a TV? So, what brought you in today? Like for you, For someone special. For me. For you. Nice. Are we married? Yes. Doesn't know you're here. He does. Awesome. Just so supportive. Very supportive. So I'm sure he had requests. He did, but it didn't make it. Oh, she didn't shoot that, sweetie. Nice. So, kids, no kids. You guys just your what? They called dates. Yes. Nice. I just heard that. Double income income. No kids. You're rested and happy. I think so. Usually. Nice. So normally, what I do is I'll let a client have a one minute rant where they congest. They have 60 seconds. All the things that are in your head that you're nervous about showing you can just get it out like I don't like my hips. I don't like love. You just get it out now and then We're not gonna revisit what we don't like. We're going to focus on what we do like and enjoying the experience together. Okay. Um well, I've been fat all my life, and so I don't like anything. For the most part, I think, you know, Think of the eyes. That's usually the best part. Um, but I've lost, like, £100 the last six months. So I have a lot of extra skin, a lot of skin that's kind of saggy and hanging in elephant e looking wrinkly. So I'm but I think it will be fine. You know, I do see a lot of clients that have had substantial weight loss, and they have the same issues. It's like now I've lost £120 but now they're focusing on loose skin or scars, and I'm like you lost £ You know, let's let's celebrate that. And let's learn to really find a way for you to embrace your new body. I'm trying to let go of those things because nothing's perfection, right? And, yeah, they exist. But you're in a better place in your where you want, which most people don't get. Teoh. I been trying to lose the baby weight. My youngest is now five it's no, I'm just know it's just fat. It's not baby with its Taco Bell. So, you know, I think that, um if we have this kind of format that we can kind of go, just have fun and let go of it. I hope that you'll be able to hold on to that. And that's what I want you to leave with today and take it back into your life. Exactly. OK, I heard you can do that. Awesome. All right, cool. So let's do it. It's kind of magical that way. Having pictures taken in your panties, huh? A little weird. Can I use the steps? No. Yes. Can I use those steps? These or is that too? Can we move that this? Oh, yeah. So it's a little difficult. It's a little difficult for me not to go into wanting to use every single little space of of us of ah, space. So I'm just gonna let myself be inspired to put her where I want Teoh butter. Like how I normally do it, rather than confining myself into a studio which I'm not used, Teoh. So I'm gonna try to get as organic as I normally shoot right now. So I'm sorry, you guys, it's gonna be a pain for you, but gonna have to deal with it this time. Yeah. Look at this. Anybody waste? Does this come all the way off? No, just the belt. Yeah, We're gonna play around with the road for now. All right, So, um what what parts of the body do you love? What parts of the body does your husband love is like a boob man, But man, he likes he likes curves. Okay. And what about you? What are you loving about? Your new body. I love the waste and bust, and I mean, I'm not first for the hips. Okay. Uh, that's kind of really what makes her way stand out, though, you know? So we kind of have to learn. Teoh appreciate that as a whole, you know? So we're gonna go ahead and showcase that. Okay, So what I all I want you to do here is just you're gonna stand like this and lean like this. So we're gonna have How's it going? It wasn't weird. It all for you, is it? See how we just have you just went like that? So how the booty went back and the boobies went forward and the shoulder come in. We're gonna hold that right. Because we're, like, on fire today. That would be helpful. Why are all my images black? I don't know. It's happening. I might turn it on to You're gonna mirror me. Exactly. So let's bring this this way. It's so the elbow goes onto onto the rail. Yes, exactly. And kind of pullin. And you just You just kind of had your help to head tilted like this. Turn your face like this, a little bit like more towards your arm and the shoulder in. And now let's relax the neck. So it's not pinched. It all lacks the neck. Relax the neck. Turn your face towards me. Just a little towards the shoulder. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Let's go look over your shoulder that way. Turn your whole head. Look down the floor. Kind of relaxed the mouth just a little bit. Don't live your head eyeballs to me. Have you sit on the steps right here? Do we have panties on underneath? Okay, just a sec. How are we feeling about this? So when I'm in the retouching process Do you want me to remove these? The discoloration Or do you? Is that like you? And you want to keep it. Okay. I learned that these right here. I thought it was from worshipping the sun in the eighties. It's from my life. And then interesting. Yes. So now I have to slather sunblock on myself before I shoot Crites we're gonna lean in. You put one foot up that would upon the step. So the knee comes up? Yep. When he comes in, you're gonna lean in this way and relax the hands posing as uncomfortable You're gonna feel like what? But you're posing for my perspective, Not for how your body would hold itself. Just do what I say. Leaning towards me this way. I lost me. Okay? Normally, I would have you, like, kind of come up the steps and we'll do some stuff up there, but I don't want the camera to go somewhere where we don't want people on TV to see. So we're not gonna do that today because I can't promise that won't happen. Come on. You ready to lose the robe? So I wanted to I want to try. Oppose that I wanted her to do, but she was, like, 18 fight feet tall on your belly. So let's see. Like, yes, the George. Yes. You're the only other person that got that. Because, of course, I got this pose from the guy from Seinfeld. You're in a liner belly, but your head's gonna be over here so your feet are gonna actually rest on the back of the shays. So we're gonna have you Your upper body kind of come this way and your lower body kind of come that way. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. Don't move. It's You're like a smiley person home. You're, like, always smiling, huh? We want that. That's good. If you're feeling Smiley, I want you to smile smiling sexy to a lot of paper. Like I don't know how to do the sexy face. Sexy is you. So if you're smiley person, smile. But we'll get a little sultry onto Here we go. Let's move this right here. Was it like a little a little wind in your hair? Madam, can I get my other lens so spoiled by just being able to do that? Thank you is good. Let's bring that me the one closest to me out this way more. And I like the way that you're pointing your toes. Let's go ahead and hook that flip over the other leg. Perfect. Gorgeous, gorgeous, Gorgeous. Do it. Do it, Do you, girl? I don't think you're having any fun. You're not having any fun with that way. Chin down a bit. And Lena and little with the changes. Ricin in this way. And look that way, like kind of the box. Cross your wrists. That was like a cross your wrists in front like this. So we're not bawling her hands up eyeballs to me? Yeah, girl, I know that. It just sounded so Chester the molester. Yeah. I don't know why I do that this way. Beautiful. Don't love. Oh, this workout. Are you feeling it? You're just like I'm doing this. That's right. All right. That elbow comes out just a little bit. Perfect. You're gonna come like this and you can move your elbow toe where you're comfortable to do that so that your for your chin can fit into your prom. So not like that. We want to do this. So bring your elbow back just a little. There you go. You're gonna let your light in your palm and turn your head this way. Way. Want to be careful with the fingers that we don't actually present the skin? Straighten up, straighten up as much as you can come in this way towards merely namely noon, Like to face. I know. It's like, What the hell am I doing? Listen, I should let's have your face say, this is so comfortable and I'm having so much fun. All right, Put on your back, You feet up. So again we're going to be angled so your head's gonna be your on your back. But you're hasn't be, like, on this side more. This one's gonna be here. This leg's gonna be like that. Don't listen to may Just do what you dio. So let's straighten this one a little more on that, spending this one over like this. Don't fall asleep on me. My kind of give you that ridden hard put away wet Look. All right, you're gonna give me an arch. Like if I wanted to stick my arm underneath your lower back, you're gonna arch right there. So, like booty down, boobies up lifted. Generate. Here put your shoulders down. I'm gonna pull this drop off your shoulder. This hand You're gonna put here like you're pushing your breast in. There you go. Perfect. I like the way you just look this way. Keep looking that way for me. Put down your You kind of went like this. Maybe you got up there. It's backwards. Day. You have, like, the cute this little giggle like it's a big, like, completely impossible to ever be matter you. I need to learn how to do that. Pop your shoulders forward like this. We're gonna make your clavicles pop. There you go. Perfect. Now you're gonna keep that one. That picture elbow down a little. There you go. Like this. Like penance. So we bring the shoulders up. Sometimes we bring our elbow with it. We don't do that. Would you keep your elbow down on our shoulder up? Perfect. Perfect. And slide the bottom of your head this way. If your head was in my hand during this little bringing chin this way, Turn your faces. Yes. Don't move this hand. You're gonna bring it up to your face like this other one. Keep that shoulder like this you push the is a good chance toe that makes him cleavage. Let's get that palm underneath the chin. Lift the face to me. Beautiful. Hold that. Okay, switch, knees. There you go. And you come this way a little bit with your hips, and you're on your back flat. There you go. Perfect. Now you're gonna go ahead and straighten the left leg. Bend the right. We're gonna arching like this. So booty back boobies forward. We're gonna get you out of this thing in a minute. A promise you'll be like a loving god. It's like the one thing that we're like afraid of being naked is like the one thing you're like. Can we just please like naked? Now, be nice. Nice big arse handle Top of the flies. Bring the shoulder up. Other one. There you go. And you push your chin away from the shoulder, But keep your face turned towards that show, Pop shoulder. All right. Beautiful left hand. Jeremy, come this way. Just put it like behind, like, on the couch. But the elbow comes up so not behind your head. Just like reach your fingers to the back of the couch. Kind of, like, in your hair, But bring your elbow up. There you go. Nice, big arch. But I could bring that shoulder up. Chin back a little bit. There it is. Take that hair away from your face. Beautiful. Now I'm yelling at you. I just get excited. All right, let's drop trout, do some bed stuff. We get a robe, your room's right here. So I think that she's gonna have you go that way where you can actually take off your lingerie, and then you're gonna come back with the hippies and panties. Do you have panties that are kind of a little bit, um, new ones. OK, Do you have nude ones of their kind of, like, cheeky? A little bit there. Boy shorts have come up really high. Are they kind of low? Perfect. Okay. Which would you prefer? These? Your pictures? I think the black would be a cool splash with your hair. If you're comfortable doing some stuff, chest down without the sheet. I kind of like to start that way. Okay. You switched from the 15 to the 100. What? When do you do that? Is it just a distance thing or what? What are the different looks? You're going forward. It's a distance thing. I mean, sometimes I'll use the 50 for like a headshot type image, but usually only when I'm doing like that p o. V shot. I demonstrate yesterday where they kneel and you're coming down the thumb just because I was just by accident that I've discovered that pose. And I like the distortion, the lens distortion in that particular pose. But it doesn't always work. It's not like something that's, Ah, that's a fail safe. So I know that if I switch to my 100 millimeter lens, I'm gonna I'm gonna completely nail the head shot every time with it. Makes sense to me eso what we're talking about, kind of stripping down defenses, really getting people to embrace what's going on. The photo six was wonder wondering when you were shooting with Angelita about using this sheet. Uh, is this just something that you're doing because of Creative Live? Or is it something that you do while you're actually shooting? Is it something you used to kind of ease them into your your nude shots? Or is it normally I start with it? Um, but it comes, It comes off pretty quickly. Obviously, for creative live we have toe make sure that things were covered. And once they're in front of the camera, even though I wanted demonstrators organically as I can, I really do want to nurture the comfort of my model. And I was from her body language and everything I was I knew that removing the sheet any more than that was gonna make her really uncomfortable. So I didn't do it. Makes sense to me, all right? And our model is bad. I would love that. Let we couldn't grab your questions after for sure. Ready? Okay. Flip it over. Genius minds. Perfect. Thank you. All right. Okay. So what we're gonna do is you're gonna go ahead and pull your robe off your arms, and I'm gonna help you keep it covered in front. We're gonna pull your arms inside of it. And since you're part comes this way, I'm gonna have you on your belly with your head over here. So you're gonna lay in your belly with your elbows about right here, and once you're there, I'll then yank the robe. I will gingerly remove the road from your body. And normally I am always playing music. Always. Morning music. Clients like it when Pardon me. I play my own playlist, and I get into what I do. So a lot of times, unlike dancing and I'm singing into him, and so that's really helpful to get, like, into it and get your client into it. If you're having fun, they're having fun. So it is a little awkward for me to be doing this with silence. No music, definitely not used to that. Okay, so how we had you angle a little bit on the couch, we're gonna have you angle just a little bit on the bed as well. Perfect. Just a just a tad. There you go. Perfect. And a little bit more Is time a bit more? Okay, so you're were gonna pull off and the but the idea is, is you'll be bare except for the Panies. And you're all those will be forwards and the nipples be pressed into the bed. But we do want to see the site of the breast. Are we? Call it that You have what we call in the trades. A spanking bottom. You guys said I could push it and bring me my best self. So? So when you were when you first laid down, you kind of your arms did this. Is it something how you would normally Okay, So instead of this, let's have you fold your hands and then as they come behind, where have you haven't come behind your neck? You want to be nice and tall in those elbows? So the legs What we're going to dio we're gonna keep the toes pointed. Do we have any mobility issues in the back or knees or anything? Okay, so you're gonna bring the closest to me out like this towards me. You're going to the point where you can still hook the other foot over the other leg, other way. Perfect. And you're gonna arch the booty back and you bring the elbows. Florida little bit. So what we want to do is you want to stretch out right in here. Perfect. Right. So you're gonna fold and let's put it like, right under the hair. Would you like a fan on? You know what? We do that, sir. Okay. So I'm just gonna fix this. Do you like him? A little hike their little lower, like down like this. Okay. All right. So I'm gonna put the fan on her real quick. It's a better okay thing isn't staying where I want it to be. To see if I can just use the vibration. Little tricks you learn when you have to. Jimmy. Rig everything. You need a light kit. We were just talking earlier about whether why you're using the sheet and how long. But just to clarify from dark room junkie, do you do full nudes or just the implied news? I do full news. It's like I said, my clients, my brand, what they want. However, I do have my boundaries. I won't shoot anything like even play board is probably more hardcore than I'll shoot. If somebody doesn't want a full frontal, I'll shoot it like down like this. Where there arched. And then at 1.2, you're getting a lot of boki. So it's going into blur, or I'll shoot like may be on their side of their new, but I'll have them bring their knee. And so I don't I don't want to be showing that I don't do anything with, like, legs open or any about stuff. That's not the kind of photographer I am. So that's all in money policy and my session information packet to like where I'll go with it. Cool. Thank you. Okay, so we're like this. What we want to do is we want to turn the hands, so see how this is to blocking. But we want it to be kind of like this a little bit more dinner. So if you're gonna go like that, they come in this way, we don't want to fold them the year. So let's yet, and then you're gonna come like this. Great. Now I've got a pen with the fan. The most important thing is that you have the fan on you, so you don't have to completely sweat balls, so well, you I will work around it. Eyeballs labels. So you're gonna stretch that booty back? Bring those start up. So when we're doing that, we want our lower back to sink down in our belly to sink down into the bed, and we want to relax. Our next lot of times when we suck in our stomach are our shoulders come up in our courts and our net go Super tense. That doesn't look any better. Let's just relax the belly. Relax the shoulders. Let the neck relax. Exactly. Fielded. Just feel that. Perfect. Now you just slowly tilt your head this way. Just a tiny bit. This one. Perfect. Perfect. Don't move. How does that look on? The screen is a too bright. That's good. Now don't move Anything. No. Your eyeballs to come this way a little bit lower right there. Don't move. Close your eyes. That's the only downfall with a fan is a lot of times it dries her eyes out. So there I start to water. Blink, blink, blink, blink. Close your eyes. Look at me. Blink, blink, blink, blink. I'm gonna hog the fan now. Is that okay? Actually, we can take this because her eyes are inside the water and I'm now tangling myself in the fan. I'll grab it. Let's go. See when everybody gets to do this every what day is it? Friday. It's the one thing about working for yourself. I'm like, What is it? What month is it? Rubbish. Oh, is it? Well, I'm already crazy, so it doesn't affect me. You okay? Do that little lean that kind of like coquettish. I'm gonna bring it yet. Bring your shoulder this way, Eyeballs. This way. Put your hands down. Now. Keep your your head where it iss trust like this with us. Well, I think it's reposition your elbows to where you're comfortable. Elbows down, Rudy back like that. Take a deep breath in Relax the muscles around your face around your mouth. Come in this way. Look right in my lens. Visualize bacon. No making any vegan. Of course. The one time I try to be funny, my joke doesn't work. All right, Okay, so we're gonna have you flip over, but I'm gonna have you covering like this. And your feet go that way. So we're gonna go diagonally on the bed. Perfect. I'm going to keep your knees out. Perfect. Now for this, Would you prefer to use the sheet over your hips so you look naked and then you can cover like this? You won't do that because what we need to do is that I need you to roll your panties down to hip level. So it's still covering here. We just needed to let go, like, halfway over your hip bone like that low. That way it won't peek out through the sheet. It doesn't matter. You're gonna Sorry I just whip you with this. You know a little extra for you, Swifty. A little bit. You got it. So Okay, so I'm just gonna arrange the sheet here. It was okay to show belly button. Are you OK with the creases? Right here. So for you, it's more about shape. The increases or and the rose Asia here. Got it. Are you, like, totally loving shopping now? Yes. Well, sometimes condo. I don't know what size I am most of the time. What looks right if it's ready. Oh, yeah. So it's kind of like an ingrained, conditioned response to shopping. I personally, I don't think I like, lose my girl card because I don't like the shop. I'd like to just buy stuff online or I'll just buy it. I tried on home. I don't enjoy the whole process either. Okay. So you're gonna have this knee come down halfway. They had a pincher needs together and we're covering like this. What we want to dio is you wanna bring the shoulders down? You are shop like this. So the You're hinging from the back right here. They pushed the toes into the bed, push the shoulders down, push the boobs in like this. You know, like we dio elbows down. I'm totally pulled in my elbows down shoulders pop a little bit. Head back away. There we go. This shoulder is gonna come up just a little bit more than the other. This way. There it is. And this one pops this. I always whisper when people on the bed I don't know. Why do that? It's I know it's creepy. So you don't have to be a male photographer to be creepy shooting boudoir. I'm actually gonna have you switch out shoulders. So this one's gonna come up toward the ceiling and turn your face that way. Yes. Perfect. And return your face this way. Yes. On march towards me. Turn it loose. This way. Little this way. Right there. Hold that arch up back. Pinch those knees together. Relax your forehead. Close your eyes. Relax your face. Relax your face. Relax. Relax, relax. Look at me. Bam! Close your eyes. Relax. Relax, relax. Take a deep breath after the mouth. Eyes to me. Bam! Good job take just one quick one. Nice big arts. Turn your head like this. Whoa, easy, limber because it's like I will bend in half eyeballs, eyeballs, eyeballs pushed together. Push them together and make leave. A draw is good. All right, we're done.

Let me first start off by saying that Rachel puts her subject first. She has a passion for empowering the everyday woman, showing them that Boudoir photography by no means only belongs to the "supermodels". She shows them that they're amazing and beautiful, and it was so comforting and heartwarming to see this in action in her Creative Live course! When Rachel's shooting with a client it's almost like no-one's in the room but the two of them. Rachel gives her undivided attention to the client's safety and well-being and general comfort. I was so glad I tuned in for the course as I learnt countless tips and techniques about lighting, angles, posing, different settings for the different types of shots you'd want to grab. Another reason that watching the class was such a pleasure for me is that Rachel comes across as that awesome, down to earth, lovely friend you might have in your life, who just happens to be one of the BEST Boudoir photogs on the planet! This was an excellent workshop, top to bottom, and I'd recommend purchasing it to anyone who wants to learn everything about this type of photography, including the business side of things which her husband, Sean, explained thoroughly. I have absolutely no idea what a couple reviewers were "disappointed with" but take it from me - this is a STELLAR course and if you're looking to get into the business, or just even honing your skills on photographing the ladies, this is most definitely the course for you! Tons of info - great guidelines on how to handle your models, great info on lighting, lenses and settings! Rachel will make you fall in love with Boudoir photography like your life depended on it! She's just THAT good! So go on, purchase the course and have her invaluable instruction at your fingertips whenever you need it!

I mainly photograph landscapes but I'm interested in learning other types of photography. Being introverted it's a challenge for me to photograph people but I it's a barrier I want to get over. I purchased this course and some others on portraiture and boudoir photography. While Rachel and her husband aren't polished speakers I thought they were honest and straightforward. The "clients" being photographed seemed a bit nervous but I imagine that had a lot to do with the fact they were doing the boudoir session live in front of thousands if not millions of viewers. Rachel also had to keep in mind she was tethered and the recording of the session while photographing her client so I don't think this was optimal and Rachel's back began to bother her so I'm sure she was in some physical pain. Regardless, the resulting pictures were beautiful so Rachel was able to make her clients feel "safe" enough to get through the session. Also it seems part of the audience were women who had been photographed by Rachael so it says something that they came to learn from and support Rachel. I appreciated Rachel was photographing real women, not models. What I liked most about this course is it made me feel like little 'ol ordinary me could be a boudoir photographer too If I am ever inclined to do so. Her style of photography isn't quite mine, but the session was still useful and instructive especially with regard to her lighting set up. I wish Rachel had talked a bit more about setting up the support team that goes around with her like her make up and hair artists, how she finds and decides on houses to rent and what cities she goes to, etc. but I guess you can't go over every single thing in a single course or maybe that can be a future course. Rachel and her husband seemed like a nice down to earth couple who put their family first and they were quite honest about some of the difficulties and their concerns over safety for themselves and their clients. I was touched that Rachel photographs women who have gone through cancer treatment for free as I do volunteer work in a hospital. I thought the bonus and included materials which had Rachel's Lightroom presets and her client info packet was very generous. Some of the other photographers charge for getting a copy of their client documents and presets. I purchased Rachel's eBook off Amazon and wanted to purchase Rachel's Photoshop actions but in searching for the purchase links I read Rachel is going through some health issues, I think it was spinal fusion, and it seems has suspended her business until she recovers. It looks like she plans to still make her "return" sessions starting with Hawaii during April 2017. I wish her and her family the best and will say a prayer for her quick and complete recovery. Thank you Rachel and Sean for coming to Creative Live and I hope you will teach another class or at least participate in a critique of boudoir photographs.

Warning: You are about to encounter a large number of exclamation points. ;-) This was such a great course! It was great to learn boudoir with such a caring, generous, and knowledgeable pair! Rachel really brought it with her posing, shooting, and building rapport with her clients. She even kept going while in intense pain! Also, the sections on retouching were EXCELLENT! I had trouble following the first retouching segment where she used her actions, but then she came back to retouching later and showed us how to do each step "longhand". Knowing what each action is designed for makes such a difference! I feel like Rachel read the audience and saw that we were floundering, and tailored her presentation to just what we needed! Sean was also very thorough in his presentation of the "business" side. It is hard, as an artist, for me to run my business like a business. Sean showed how it can be done. He also showed the need for a strong "why" to focus on when telling others about policies. "It's a business. I need to feed my kids." I need to reach down and find my "why" that will keep me strong enough to stand behind my policies and pricing. I haven't gotten a chance to sit down and go through all of the bonus materials yet, but I am so excited to see what's in there! I saw that Rachel had posted a longhand version of the "little hug," and I watched it, and I have been trying it out on some of my older images. Just that one little tweak makes such a difference! Thank you, Rachel and Sean, for giving us SO MUCH usable content! I'm so glad I decided to watch and then purchase this course! And I can't wait to see the two of you again for your next creativeLIVE!
