Shoot: Bedroom with Alexis and Mom

I have a really good idea for you alexis all right you know what we're gonna do we're not we won't use the hat for this one we won't use the hat come back over here ready I want to try you that's what much that's ready let's just get rid of this for a second all right so go ahead sit right there and then mommy will you come here and then what we're going to dio is we're gonna find her so what I would love for you to dio is hold this up back up over her we're not going to see her yet and can I get somebody else to get this word if daddy were here I would say one more person can I get one other person help so the trick is we're going to try to lift it so I can see her and shoot through but however facing this way okay ready and then so when I say go what we're gonna do is we're gonna lift up the blanket your mommy in there to let me get in there you jump in we need somebody else mommy is in there too did you see that she needed comfort for mommy so I'm gonna put my mean the shot already ...

mommy you're in there too okay so now the trick is try to even get her up we do the shot all right so you're holding both sides of this and then we're going to try to get what we can power down like they're gonna shutter speed up I'm gonna kick out my eyes so because it's gonna be dark when that comes up it's blocking a lot of light so I'm going to kick my eyes so up tio either a thousand even twelve fifty um and then we're gonna do a test and see what we get ok are they facing the right direction let's just say they are I'm gonna go under there so I'm gonna be this is gonna be in my frame the blanket yet one to go I think we need to do that again yeah so hold it up next time but hold on one second I want to show you what I was getting so you end up getting something like this with really funny expressions you know what? Since your hair's down let's pull her down? Um that's one of the things I like to do to us have a little bit of consistencies and the look when I do ah mommy and daughters okay, so let's try that again this time when you lift it for ten you're gonna drop it but don't okay and then pull her close that's the other thing I see is there a little far away doing there tuck your shirt down behind you and then pull her close okay, ready? Okay I'll see you on the other side okay okay all right let's go one two go you are very good drop it um okay good on this one this is a great way like you see how she didn't want to come to the bed she wasn't should she want to run off the bed this is how you turn away around the expressions in the problematic situations okay oh now she's dropping yes she is uh and then so let's try let's get rid of the blanket all together just get it off the bad and the mommy to be thinner grab the h a t thank you no this is we're gonna do we're gonna jump so the hat falls off you all right okay all right jump up and I want you to see I want you to see jump so fast that the hat falls off your head because who wants to wear a hat that's really good do it again and this time we'll spin it thiss time if you spin the hat will hit me it's super cool it's super cool okay alright and you let it spin off you so it hits me okay would you want mommy in the bed with you mama j girl all right mommy is up there well and you see him out of the lighting I've gotta adjust my s o back down all right all right mommy you're on the bad lady okay, so this one you're gonna face each other and hold hands okay but you don't start jumping down stand champagne yet you are jumping right on on what I can't even hold on conversations when will you start jumping you jumped to and I'm gonna say three and then both of you do me a favor when you jump do it okay, ready can you do that? Can you like this all right on three okay one two day class loves really close okay ready so here's the other trick using the trick try the whole time when you jump either look at each other look at me which do you choose about each other yeah that's nice look at each other for one wait did you favorite before your job for you jeff go down and put your nose in that against her does all right ready wait so how about this when we say three wait till four okay okay, okay. Ready? All right. How long? Okay, here we go one two, three wait till five okay, ready? Let's try that again. Um so we're gonna go on your way where is your base jumping so I'm working okay let's do it again, okay, well, wait do we have to go back down okay, so this is how you help mommy jump ready, jump up again set it up again and then do me a favor like this and then oh just no no no no look in her eyes and say mommy this is how you jump but don't let her don't let her know it yet this's your job all right let's do it let's do it this job on probably five to three how about this how about this you try to see it try to call it when you see her legs go up you go up and I will do this for five six times okay okay yeah yeah yeah yeah look at me oh for a class wearing talks on the bedrock yeah and then to be there put your legs that way yep and we're gonna have her right here right here and you're right here we'll bring the reflector in and then here it's gonna be like super pillowy she's done um where's these are another pillow yes over here. What what marked money super pillow a super pillow and then she's here a five quick please notify please. Thank you. Okay. Oh that's almost excellent that's almost good yet so let me uh oh bets but yes yes, I like that very much very, very much so let's try um two chords that's try so then one quick thing I'll dio is because we just had so much jumping just do a little bit of clean up because it's not fair to make them jump a million times all right, all right, that is her spot she's gonna wiggle right in there I don't know she'll fit though I don't know you fit here. I think so what we might do is just bring her in okay, so let's bring her in and ready to get their good now all you have to do is trap her. Wait, where is she doing? Oh, look, I've brought chocolate did ugo do you like candy? He loves you like gum? Do you like a zen meditation center? Do you have a meditation center? You d'oh I have that what do you like about a meditation center? Let's? Teo um and you see what a difference it makes also when you allow yourself wide open options for space and lighting and such too um I know I know letter job father jeff on six grabber two three four that was very good. Very good that's actually really cute. I love that that would be oh, it's five seconds away I'll show you how I would frame it something like that. All right, we got to that one more time this time on four grabber and then I'm going to throw this at her face assumes you robber but she'll probably catch it we'll see we'll see how it goes right to you yeah I love that you're being true to form you're really in character you're being you're being in character as a little girl did you know that? All right, here we go. Hello? Okay. Hello. How lot? Ok, go like do you want this here sit down. I'll give it to you I'll give it to you sit down on mommy to give it to you. Yeah, okay, wait mash question when I give it to you what are you going to do with that? Are you gonna use it for your powers for good or do you think you're going to just sell it on ebay home one second? Are you gonna sell it on ebay? Are you going to sell a pets? Don kam? I don't think that's become exists anymore. You know what exactly is ur scooch down to your little more level with her? I know, right? Yep. And then pull her up. Yes, so I heard you okay, do you know what just happened? Do you know that your mommy just went off? Do you know what the sound ofthe sounds like? Wait, it sounds like this. Well, kind of exactly what I just said. Oh, there you go, let it go all right, good, good, good, very sweet all right, let's see how that comes in, okay, we're getting there you were awesome you were awesome to bu I loved it I'm going to have one more twenty four seventy and then and then we're gonna wrap it ready okay ow ow! But I bet you know what I bet I bet that if I were to put the hat on you right now guess what would happen what do you think I know what would happen it would fought hips no, no, it wouldn't I bet you couldn't get that hat off no matter what you do. So what do you think I'm gonna shot let's try it but you can't do it till I say hat when I say hat that's when you do it ok ok not till then wait come in come in come in right not twice at what's the magic word what's magic well where did you go? I can't even see mommy come here real quick. All right, ready? The word is hot, right? Okay, here we go it's going to come on ready? You have to tell me if you're ready cause I can't hear are you ready? Okay, but where I'm clean, I've showered they're ready okay, okay, okay, here we go, I'm about to put the hat on you and I hope you love it. Why not? You knocked it all right now, wrap good job. Go. All right. I want to go back to this one if you can see kind of the best of the shots where her listening to me while I was getting the hat ready, right and that's. A lot of what I find some of the best shots are while you're setting it all up.

Class Description

TO RSVP FOR TAMARA'S NEW CLASS, Capturing Authentic Children Portraits, CLICK HERE!

Children are not professional models, nor even enthusiastic about posing. While children are inherently beautiful, they aren’t naturals at sitting still. This creates a hurdle for photographers attempting to capture the personalities of younger, restless subjects. However, it’s not impossible to get a child to pose for the camera — you just have to speak their language.

After more than ten years of shooting, celebrated children's photographer Tamara Lackey has developed a language for effectively communicating with her younger clients. In this 3-day course, you will learn Tamara’s 10-point system designed to secure gorgeous, expressive images — including her formula for building to “the final shot.”

By the end of this workshop, you’ll be armed with a toolkit of tried-and-true methods easily adaptable to your own style of shooting, transforming your children’s photography practice into a seamless workflow.

This is my first creative live course, and I was really sceptical that I would be getting my money's worth. But I can honestly say that this has been a brilliant investment. Not only is Tamara amazing, but the content is fantastic. I feel like I got more than I bargained for as I even learnt some things in Photoshop I didn't know. Big double thumbs up!

This course will change the way you...it won't just change the way you take pictures but the way you interact with kids and families...the x factor that takes you from being good to great. Tamara is the greatest in that regard! First of all, she is a great teacher...I wasn't bored even once and by the time the course ended, I wanted more! I love her style, her wit, her pragmatism and most of all...her energy! Honestly, what does this woman have for breakfast that she is so positively charged :) Secondly, she teaches you tips and tricks that will be hard to forget - when there is sooo much information out there and its hard for you to recall everything, you will hear Tamara's voice and it will guide you in some way or the other - she's that good! I would definitely recommend this course - in fact, this was my first course with CreativeLive and now I'm hooked!
