Storyline #2 - Changing the World

changing the world, here is the storyline we talked about in this lesson, I don't remember whom, but somebody said that the only reason to give a presentation is to change the world Now, I like these powerful, inspiring approach to public speaking and presentations and if you think about it, that's quite right, it doesn't have to be the world, but definitely your world, Absolutely, if there is one skill, just one skill that can help you change your world, but that skill is effective, presenting effective public speaking now, if that's what you want to do, if you really want to make an impact, if you want to be memorable when you present, consider following these storyline, which is very interesting the way it works is you start with the ideal world, it could be with your product or service your business, your situation, whatever it is, the ideal world, what does the ideal world look like and then you compare it with reality and you say reality unfortunately is a bit different from the ...

ideal world, why why is reality different from the ideal world? Well, because there is a problem, but you know what, we also have a solution to the problem and then you give them some next steps and the contrast between ideal and reality and a little bit between problem and solution as well, but mainly between ideal and reality is what makes this storyline especially impactful for example, I used this storyline with the clients sometimes negotiates a business consultant here in the UK and we worked together to prepare, it was a technical presentation where her audience was made up of two different professionals within certain organizations. And her message was there at the moment, they were competing against each other, but she wanted them to start working together to cooperate with each other. And here is how her changing the world storyline looked like. So for her in the idea rolled, you have these two disciplines, these two professionals within the same company, supporting each other, working with each other. Now, unfortunately in reality, what they do is they compete against each other. Now, you see why is reality different from the ideal world? Well, because there was a problem in our case, there were three problems, there was a problem around language because these two disciplines, these two professionals tend to speak a different language within certain organization, a different business language. There was a problem around culture because of course, depending on the dominant culture within a certain company, then you would have a discipline, a type of professional better off than the other. And similarly, there was another problem around incentives, because again, depending on how a company tends to incentivize certain outcomes, then again, one professional would be better off than the other. So this was the problem. And then of course there was a solution and she wanted to use their public speaking opportunity for her to introduce her solution, her method, her framework, and then finally, she did have some next steps, she did have a cultural action for them to in the idea as in the ideal world to cooperate with each other. And also she said, look, if you'd like to understand more about how I can help in this regard, feel free to get in touch. Now of course, depending on how much time you have, Then the more time you have, the deeper you can go. In that case we prepared a 45 minute presentation. So each section did have more details. You can include stories, examples, anecdotes, case studies, but the general flow remains the same ideal reality problem solution. Next steps and that's changing the world. Now let's talk about the next possibility the sales speech our ceo in the next lesson.

I was just beginning to create a series of presentations when I noticed this course. Serendipity! I thought I knew what I was doing, but learned some great techniques. More importantly I learned what NOT to do. Now I have much more confidence in the process.
