Storyline #4 - The Board Presentation

in this lesson, I want to talk about the board presentation because sometimes maybe you need to present something to the board to some top management executives. Now, here is the thing when you present to the board, I would always encourage you to start with your recommendation. So the storyline is recommendation reasoning. So why are you recommending whatever it is that you are recommending? What do you want them to approve? What do you want their advice on recommendation reasoning and then we can call the call to action on next steps or so what? There has to be something at the end, the powerful conclusion. But the key thing here is that you want to start with your recommendation, why? Because when you present to the board, these people are very busy so you will be interrupted and also actually say for those who have reached a certain level, especially within big incorporates, they are either very smart or they think they're very smart, isn't that true? They're either very smart or t...

hey think they are very smart and because of that and also because they are very busy, you will be interrupted, they think they know where you're going and you will be interrupted. So it's your responsibility as a presenter to make sure that they do know where you're going and the best way for you to be able to do that is to start with your recommendation for example, we used this storyline with a client some time ago, a watchmaker and here was the context, although they had already made a clear decision to focus only on ladies watches, the head of marketing decided that they also had to start selling and making high end men's watches to build and gain credibility in this market. And therefore as a consequence to sell more ladies watches. So we had them produce an internal board presentation because they needed the approval from their board to implement their strategy where they put these surprising recommendation right at the start and then they explain why in their reasoning and we judged that there was better than getting to their recommendations slowly, because this might have seemed like they were over justifying it. Perhaps they were not confident in alphabet and they were not getting straight to the point. The presentation of World very well. The watch was a great success and this was also the start of a strong turnaround for their business. So remember in the board presentation, always consider starting with your recommendation. Now, in the next lesson, let's talk about the last possibility the project presentation. I'll see you there

I was just beginning to create a series of presentations when I noticed this course. Serendipity! I thought I knew what I was doing, but learned some great techniques. More importantly I learned what NOT to do. Now I have much more confidence in the process.
