Wood Thumb - Wooden Ties & Accessories

So let's go ahead and meet Christopher Stein. Steinbruck. Okay, Cool. All right. Hello. How are you? Tell me about yourself. Tell me about your design. Um, well, my name's Chris on my company's called would Thumb. And we designed products for guys um, made here in San Francisco all out of reclaimed materials. Okay. I mean, I see some of these beautiful ties, and they're kind of movable and changeable. How did you get started being an artist? Um, I wanted to I work for myself, do my own thing and be creative. And I know a lot of other people wanted to do that, too. So I set out to create a system to be able to design products and get them out into the world and kind of have that as a channel for people on artist with a system. That's a good thing. So do you sell your work online? You sell it online? Such other stores? Yeah. And how long have you been doing that? Just over two years. Okay, So how has that shifted from selling the physical to shifting to the online? Has that brought you m...

ore customers? What's what is that shift been like for you. Well, we we sell mostly to other stores, a lot of which are also online retailers. And so we're moving both online and in stores and craft fairs like this also. Okay, So what's your favorite thing about being an artist? I think one of the most incredible things is designing something like a would tie and refining it, going through different prototypes and then settling on on a final design and then all of a sudden, like pushing it, getting it out into the world and walking into stores and seeing it there and seeing people wearing them And just to be able tohave that influence or reach that technology kind of allows us to have to get something just out into all the corners of the world. Yeah, that realization of what started maybe is an idea. And you're and you're very talented artists mind and then bringing it out into the actual physical world in people. Use it where it enjoy it. Share it right. It's inspiring. Yeah, that's great. So you don't see a lot of men at crash shows? Either is vendors or as customers. What's that been like? Is it a lot of women shopping for gifts. Are there a lot of male customers that come up during these shows? What's that experience like? We'll definitely our biggest customer. Are women shopping for their dudes on, at least for us? Yeah, and But I think in general the whole craft movement is very centered on women's stuff, jewelry on and kids stuff clothes. And, um and we try to bring things for guys, um, out there and the maker movement kind of is colliding with the craft movement, and that's bringing a lot of things like that and also love it colliding. So, do you have a customer story that you'd like to share like a favorite customer story? Or are, um, you know, some feedback, uh, like to share not any specific ones, but I think that, um we try to create products that that create unique interactions and get people excited and enthusiastic about something. And, um, what we get from our customers a lot is just the, um a lot of feedback that we got is about how, when they use our products, they just, like, get this burst of inspiration and they feel great and they get a lot of good feedback from people around them, and that's an exciting thing to your part of very so they can find you online. Of course. Where is that? Ah, would thumb dot com was sung dot com, and then you have an online marketplace there, right so they can buy right from your website. Are you on any other website? Yeah, there's there other websites on that curious end. Right now we have a pop up store in the mall in San Francisco. I love that that, you know, there's a lot of artists that are doing the pop up store. Why did they do that? I'm just curious. Is it just a test to see it's It's, uh, it doesn't require ah, a lot of investment or long term leases. It's just a way to affordably open the store for a little bit. Okay, I love it. Okay, so tell me just a little bit about what you offer those specifically because I see the ties. I see the bottle openers. I see the bow ties, and then I also see what looks like an old timey milk sort of drop off. But that fits beer Yeah, so? So we basically you can break our products into two categories. Style and beer. And these beer. Six packs. Here, these are just would six packs for carrying six beers, giving Teoh as a gift with, like, six of your favorite craft beers, or or carrying five. If it's a long walk and some of the other beer things that we do with these magnetic bottle openers that have these super powerful magnets built in, I was wondering, I thought that was attached. But it's actually a magnet. Yeah, super often. So they catch the bottle caps. You can see this one down here has a lot of That's a unique, impressive thing to kind of have your kitchen at your bar. I love it because this is just just a really unique way of putting that dapper your eyes do not deceive you. I am indeed a would tie. I love it. Okay, Well, anything else you want to add to share with people out there aside from your website which say that one more time again would thumb dot com. Okay, cool. All right. It's really been nice to meet you. Thank you. Thank you so much. All right,
