Discoverability: Make it Easy for Your Followers

so several of our guests today have talked a little bit about discoverer ability, and one of the problems with Snapchat, if you haven't noticed yet, is that there's not an engine for people to search and find you buy an interest by a topic. There's no place that I can go in the Snapchat up and say, Show me people who you know we're into woodworking. Show me people that are selling baby clothes. It just it doesn't exist, and I don't know if they have plans to make it exist. So how do you get found? How do you find others If you don't know their snap code or don't know their name or somebody hasn't told you, What do you do about it? Well, there's a few solutions. There's, ah number of websites that have sprung up. One of them is called Snapchat dot Directory, and this is, ah, location where there's actually, I believe, a spreadsheet. You add your user name and they add you to an Excel spreadsheet with a list of names of users and their special interest. Very primitive. But compared to wh...

at Snapchat has, it's pretty cool. More recently, there's an app that came out called ghost coats and actually was really fortunate to be featured on there for about a week. And let's go ahead and go to the phone and I'm gonna go ahead and launch the ghost codes. AP. They have a website to go with it, but the the APP makes it real simple. Okay, my friend Brian Fans, oi, social fans is currently being featured here on top, along with, uh, Amber Plaster and Adam Rose. What's really interesting about ghost codes is they. They have categories, so these air featured people in each category right now. But let's actually go to the categories. So let's say you want to find people that air snapping about fitness will you tap on fitness, and now you can see by popularity who to follow in fitness. So we've got can't kick in fit right here, and Emily Sky and, um, here's Kristen dowel so we can tap on Kristen and it tells us a bio about her. I'm a fitness professional, but not fanatical about it. I'm a French fry snob, cheating vegan and laugh at things others don't find funny. You could see that it's got links to her other social platforms. But here's what makes it really easy to use when integrated with Snapchat right under her name. You'll see there's a down arrow and there's a heart. Well, the heart just means I like, and that kind of votes her up in the popularity contest. But the down just saved her staff code to my photo album. So now when I go to Snapchat and if I go to add friends, um, add by snap code pulls up my camera, roll in. There she is. And then I can add, er, it's an extra step, but it's ah, it's a great way to Ah, to be discovered is to use this tool. So you want to get listed on ghost codes, and it's very easy to put your information in. Basically, you download the app, and I'm listed in here is a storyteller, and you could see that over 1000 people have downloaded my code. 3000 have like my profile and then I've got links down here. So if you wanted to find me on periscope, you tap it and that launches directly into my profile on the periscope app. I think it's unfortunate that Snapchat doesn't have built in discovery ability. But it's cool that we're seeing third party solutions pop up. It looks like they've added something I haven't seen. Let's see what this guy does right here. Oh, hi. We like you. Do you like us back? Please help. Yes, Turnell. Case by tap. Yes, it's gonna take me toe Apple Review so I'm not gonna do it right now, But I do like them. But you can pick your interests when you sign up. And so this is a way for normally for you to get found, but for others to find you a swell across the bottom. We've got the search tab right here so we can type in whatever we want. And we've got notifications. When people give you a kudo or save your codes That way you can see who's downloading your information. So some other ideas for being discovered. I showed you early on how to download your snap code. You do it from your profile page and you hit the download button. Now your staff code is a on image that you can upload and put anywhere so you can post it to Twitter and say, Hey, I'm on Snapchat now. Follow me. Here's a really cool I don't have this in the slider. Let's go to the slide Police and here's a, um ah, hack that you can use. And you might want to write this down if you want to create a link on social media so that when people click it, it goes into Snapchat and gives them an opportunity adieu. It's Snapchat dot com forward slash add a d d. Ford slash user name. So if I was to link to me, it would be Snapchat dot com ford slash add forward slash Joel Come. And if somebody clicks that and they have the app there on their mobile device, they click it. It goes right into the app. And just like anybody else, you follow it will say, Do you want to add Joel Commas a friend? So it's one click quick, easy hack. You can link that out so poster snap code on Twitter unlinked in on Facebook wherever you have an audience and you want to invite people to follow you and use Snapchat dot com. Ford slash Add ford slash Whatever your user name is and link to it. They follow me and say hi to me. Snap me. Engage with me. Talk to me. So put your snap code on the website. Share it to social Media. If you have an email list, Great way to say, Hey, you know what? I just learned a ton about Snapchat. I didn't know what it was. I spent a day with Joel calm and now I get it. I think it's really cool or you want it. Add me. Send it out on email lists. Give them your links so they know how to find you. You could put it on your business cards. Get put your snap code on letterhead anywhere, anything that's printed. Put it on a post card if you're sending out any materials in the mail, put it on a T shirt just like that. The guys who printed this said they would never do another one like this, and I said Why? They said the yellow vinyl was incredibly difficult to screen properly, but it actually does work. So it's kind of funny. So come up with creative ways to share your snap code. Right? Be creative. That's what Snapchats all that anyway I'm sure you can discover plenty of ways to share it that I haven't thought of. Then there's a couple Snapchat based ways to build an audience that are really creative. The 1st 1 is Snapchat swamps, and I've done these a number of times. I find a friend or appear that has an audience, which I think I could deliver content to and that I think they could deliver content to mine. We trade Loggins. I log into their account for a day. They log into mine, and we do our stories on each other's account to introduce ourselves to another person's audience. And then we'll always share our snap code within those swaps, saying, Hey, hope you've enjoyed the day here. While I've taken over Fred's account, you can find me at Joel com on Snapchat. I hope you come join me over there. Meanwhile, Fred's over on my account, doing his thing, telling his story and inviting my followers if they're interested to follow him. Real simple. This it's barter right, and you just want to make sure that you're finding people that you think will bring value to your account and that you think you can bring value to their followers. And finally, there's Snapchat takeovers. So I have people asking me Hegel, will you make a cameo? Will you do a few snaps on my account? It's my birthday. Would you come in and, you know, wish me Happy birthday on my account so occasionally time permitting because it does can get overwhelming. I will say yes, and I will make an appearance on somebody else's Snapchat account. And usually I'll have fun with it and I'll be like I just kidnapped. You know, Tom's Snapchat account. People lose What happened? I did a story one time where I played like my log in got stolen and I had about a dozen of my peers log into my account saying, Hi stole jewels account. No, I stole goals. Accountant was this Who's who? The people in the social and business realm. It was a ton of fun and ended up being John Lee Duma's who did it in the end host of entrepreneur on Fire. So it was a lot of fun, So there's a lot of ways you can become known, but the best way of all is to be providing quality content, create something fresh and new and original that provides value, brings it to the space. And word of mouth is an incredible thing. You know, I started back in November 2015 and I've had days where I'm working all these other things as well. Snapchat is not my primary thing. I just love it. But I've had days where I've had over 2000 people viewing my snaps, which I think is really cool for just working it part time. There's people like Sean that it is their full time thing for Jenny. This is Snapchat is their jam, and they've got tens of thousands of people watching because of that. For me, it's another piece of my social mix.
