Setting up a Snapchat Account

So let's go ahead and talk about setting up your Snapchat account. Really easy to do is get your phone's out. Everybody's got Thea the app on it. Do you have Ah, Do you have the up installed on yours? Excellent. If you If you're not signed up yet, really easy to go up and set up your account. The first thing you're going to see when you launch the up the first time is this Welcome to Snapchat. It's really clear what you need to do next. You're either gonna log into you're going to sign up. If you're signing up for the first time, then you're gonna put your name in first and last. I recommend using real names unless you have a stage name. That is, that is the brand that you want to be known as forever and ever by anybody who watches. And there are some who do that I actually recommend for for the big fortune corporations having a brand name in there is fine. But it's also not a problem for the individual who is going to be representing the company to use their name on the account. So yo...

u put your name in. They want to know your birthday. I was born on May 5th, 1964. Do the math. Think of DiMaio. They have a big party in money. Birthday rear. So put that in and then you want to pick your user name. I like to use my name, but you can choose whatever you want for your user name. Just realize that this is how people are going to see you. So whatever it is that you select for that user name is your pretty much nailing that down. So, uh, who's already got? Who's to this point? What? You use me. Okay. Great. Were you born? 64 were the same age. Were you born before? May feather after 11. 11. Razor. Razor was born at 11. 11. Fantastic. I'll take the day off. I appreciate that. You got your set up, and it is because you're I'm sorry. So, uh yeah, my bad. When, uh, when I asked. Question If you can grab a mic, make it easier for me. 10. Great. Which is the same name I use on Instagram. Perfect. And Sally makes a really good point. That consistency across your social platforms is a really good idea. In fact, everywhere that you look for me, it will always be Joel calm. The only time it wouldn't be is that they said that name wasn't available. And since, to my knowledge, on the only Joel calm in the world, that means somebody squatting on the name and I try and get that taken care of. So, as much consistency as you can have, it makes a lot easier for people to find you across all the social platforms. Then put in your password. Please do not make it password or Be creative. Use a password that somebody can hack. It's always a good idea when you're making a password to use a combination of upper lower case letters, numbers or symbols, different sites. Some require you to do that. And if you can come up with a password naming mechanism, that is not easy to crack. That'll hopefully save you some grief in the future. So once you've got your password set up, it then takes you to your home screen. Now, initially, there will just be a ghost right there where, um, the snap code is. And I'm gonna go ahead and go to my phone here for a moment and show you how to set your snap code. Everybody's familiar with a QR code. Not many of us use them because they're kind of clunky. But Snapchat came up with their own version of a Q R code, and it's called a snap code. Every snap code is unique. Now we're not talking about the picture that's going to go into the middle of it. Yes, that's gonna be unique. But Snapchat through ah, camera can determine the user based on where those dots are placed within the yellow box. In fact, what I'm wearing today is my snap code. And so let's actually try. Sally, could you come right up here for me, please? And what I want you to dio They worked Last time. I tried. I want you grab your phone. Sorry. I told you, we're gonna have some fun. Want you toe point, Open up your Snapchat open. Yep. There. That one right there. Okay, now just pointed at me. And let's see if it picks up on Don't even click anything. Just just aim it at my shirt, okay? it should detect that. That is my snap code is press and hold to scam where you go, we're gonna allow that. Okay, tips. Sometimes the wrinkles get in the way. So what we're gonna do is we're going to do it this way. Once you just point your phone here at There you go. So what just happened on her phone? Is that when she pointed it at me, it said agile. Come now. I'm gonna demonstrate here by pointing in another one of yours so you can see Sally. Let me see your snap code. Now, we just have your phone for a moment, okay? I have her phone here, and this is her snap code, and I am going to point my phone at it like this. See what happened right there? It figured out who you were. Just buy me pointing it at this. And now I'm gonna add you as a friend. Just like that. Now, if we want to customize our snap code and put our face in there, this is really easy to dio Simply tap on the place where your snap code is, and it should go full screen like that. Everybody with me Hit. Now we're gonna tap on the, um, the circle just like that and it says you're ready. You'll see what it does is it takes 1234 four or five pictures. I can't even keep up with it. It counts down and you can give different looks and then it saves. It is your snap coats and now you have a little animated snap code that can reveal your personality. Quick question. Just a little clarification on Q R codes. So those air kind of a school thing just just so everybody knows what a QR code where Snapchat really got this idea from great questions, so Q R codes I wish I had when I can actually show you right now, I don't. But there those square codes that are made up over it's almost like Tetris. It's like playing Tetris and and every Q R code is unique. And when you point your phone at one with the QR code reader, it can take you to a website. It can it can call a phone number it Basically the QR code gives a signal to your device to take a certain action. Well Snapchat said. All those air clunky. They're ugly. They're really not usable. Sometimes you'll see them on billboards on the highway, and you should not be getting your phone out while you're driving on the highway to grab a QR code. But if you're, you know, sitting around at home or with friends and you can pull this out Snapchat found a more elegant and one way to create a code that lets people easily add somebody to ah to your friend list. So I have just done a brand new one there. If I don't like it, I can hit the Eiken click right here and remove it. So I'm gonna remove it. Let's try it against And now you could see its blank. I've got nothing Now I can leave it blank if I want to. I don't want to. So here we go. We're gonna try it again. I'm gonna click and I'm gonna give five poses. There we go. Now we want to keep that one. All we're going to do is hit the back button. That's just to the left of the circle. A couple things we can do with us if we want. Let's say, Hey, that would make for a cool little post. What if I could take that animation and save it to Twitter or Facebook to tell people Here's a way that you can follow me well, right up in the upper left corner. You'll see the bucket with the arrow. And if we tap that, we can save that image just like that. And now I can grab that from my photos, regardless of which device some on whether it's an IOS device or it android and I can share that and say, Follow me on Snapchat People go and they can take a picture and add you that way. So going to click the back bucket in here and what I want to do is jump in to the settings. The settings are going to be right up here, and we'll go back to the slides to show this. There's Ah, there's a lot of things that you can put in here, and we're gonna go through what's most important. You've already included your name, your user name. Your birthday should be in there, your mobile number, because that is how Snapchat verifies that your this is your device one user toe, one phone number. You cannot have multiple Snapchat accounts that go to the same phone number. How they determine this is who you are. Your email, a few other things there. What I want to do is I want to jump into this part of the settings, which is who can who can what, who can contact me and who can view my story. Let's go ahead and go back to the phone. Jump to the live version of that as we scroll down to my who can right here. If we tap contact me, it can either be everyone or my friends. If you are intending to use Snapchat toe, build a platform and to engage with people, then you want to say everyone. If you only want to use a privately for family and friends to contact you, then you would tap my friends. But I want everybody to be able to engage with my content. In all likelihood, you do as well. Same thing for view my story. You want to make sure that you go into view my story and you have it set to everyone. Otherwise, you'll be creating content in telling people. They can't watch it. There's not much point in that. But they do give you the option. There are some. You know, if you've got Children that are using it, then perhaps his apparent you would say, Hey, Billy or Susie, whatever This is just for your friends to see. I don't want you broadcasting where the whole world convey you it until I have a quick another question for you. You mentioned that you can only have one Snapchat tied to a phone. Numbers. We have a question from the Internet regarding if you should have a personal Snapchat and a business Snapchat. If you have a two different phone numbers, Is that something you would recommend? Yes, So that's a great question. Thank you, Internets, for the good questions. So the answer is this. Get proficient with an account first before you start launching out on two accounts. So I recommend that everybody get the feel for Snapchat personally before you officially start snapping for your brand, right? Play with it. I kind of like to see it is a sandbox. And you've got your pail and shovel and you're gonna get in there and you're gonna start messing around, it's going to get a little bit messy, and you might get sand in some places that you might not want to, right? It's just it's you're gonna learn how to do this. And then once you get the feel for it, then if you want to set up another account with a different phone number for your brand, go for it. Don't overwhelm yourself by right out of the gate saying I'm going to set up two accounts ones challenging enough. So, um, I'm not gonna go in depth on some of the things like clearing your cache and all that right now. Let's click backwards and get back to our our main screen right here. And, uh, what I want to talk about is seeing who has added you. If you're looking at your your main screen, you'll see directly underneath your picture. It says added. Me and this. Let's go ahead and go to the phone. You can see right here. These are the people who have added me recently. It does not show everybody it hits a limit, and you'll notice that I don't add everybody back because I can't possibly follow that many stories. So being a broadcaster and a content creator, I want and you want as many people to add you as possible. But like all social platforms, you decide where your boundaries are, on who you're going to follow back. Some people are of the mindset that if they follow me, I'm gonna follow them back. Others are very particular about who they follow back. Nobody can tell you how to do that. You get to decide how you wish to implement that. Many times I've made the mistake when a number of social platforms of following everybody back and then looking at all the feed that I have to consume and going this is Wait, I can't consume all of this. Why am I following all these people if I'm not actually going to consume their content? So I choose now to follow back those that I know that I have relationship with that I particularly drawn to their content. But from the U from the added me, you can actually go ahead and add somebody are when I want to do is I want to add somebody back who's here. So if you haven't added me yet, go ahead and do that and I'm gonna show you different ways to go about it.
