Snapchat Features: Brand Stories

This is our stories Page. When you snap and add a photo or a video to your story, it goes into the top item you see there that says my story. And what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna go ahead and play the story from my last 24 hours for you. And you can kind of see how I've used Snapchat in the last day that was landing yesterday morning. Check out this room with all the sharp be art on the walls. All right. See, Io has It's really, really tall for others. There is that And this is Aaron personally, who's my content producer for the two days of creative life. We're doing way, got heads down and we're on it. And here's this guy I don't know. He is but high. And this is the green room where I will be getting ready. And I just discovered that they left me a good job at video Goodie bag Joe just give you a heads up. What? I'm at the store. So we opened the store at 6 30 You're gonna be calling me in a 10 to 7, so I'll already be here tomorrow on creativelive are SPP to grow your Snapchat audienc...

e. We're live. So as I get ready to call it a night, let's dig in to see what's in the goodie bag for Joel. Calm shelling water. How did you guys know that I like to drink Fiji and a journal so that I can use those inspirational pencils and write my faults? The imagination runs wild with what could be in the, um, nom nom bag. Oh my gosh, so many snacks and body scrub, which I probably shouldn't eat. And lastly, I wonder if it's a pony. They want to make sure that I am healthy for my two days of presentation. So it's a wellness kit and the official creativelive beverage holder. I am back in my hotel room after a long day of preparations at Creative Live. Tomorrow is the Snapchat training. I hope you can make it. If you haven't signed up yet. Go there. Time to get miked up, making about. We're just about ready to start your creative life. Oh, it's on how we doing creative live audience, and that brings us up to date on my story for the last 24 hours. Now There's a few things that you might notice about how I tell stories. Can you tell any difference between the guy in the stamp jet story and this guy? It's same thing, right? It's authentic, It's riel, and we're gonna go more into that. In fact, I was snapping from bed with with hair a mess. Now you ladies may earn it. May not want to try that at home. I get it. It's fine. But for me, it doesn't matter to me if people see me as I am without the jacket, without the product in the hair, because they identify with somebody who is being riel, we're gonna go into that mawr today and via Skype. I'm going to get to introduce you to some people who also really keep it real. So this is your the stories page right here, and I can see my story. There's three different elements I want you to pick up on here my story. And then underneath that, brands which their stories show appear these air brands that are paying to have a space to have their stories on, they actually have access to some advanced features and functionality that we don't is regular Snapchat users, followed by the most recent updates from people that I am following. I'm not gonna tap on any of those right now. What I want to do is I want to do one more swipe and I want to go from left to right, and this takes us to the Discover page. This is the more in depth look at the various brands that are using Snapchat. And so I'm just going to tap right there on the NFL, and they've got their own story that they're running here. Sometimes they will go longer than 10 seconds again. They have some advanced features to advance any story. If we don't want to watch what's going on, we simply tap it. That's it. Just tap on an existing story. In fact, we can just tap right through a story quickly. Now, part of the advanced functionality that the brands have is you'll see at the very bottom of this page it says read, so I can actually swipe up, and it takes me into an article that the brand is sharing. Now we don't have this functionality. All right, so we're gonna go back to here I want to make sure that I have hit upon everything that is important in that part. On the the my story page, Let's just go ahead and go to the live one again on the phone, please. I will show people how to get here. So on my story, you'll see to the right to icons. I want you to look to the one all the way to the right, re see triple dots when I tap that it pulls up all of the snaps that I have added to the story in the last 24 hours working backwards so we can see the most recent snap is the one at the top, which is this one, the video of everybody right here. So if I scroll down to the bottom, the very 1st 1 we viewed was this one. See, when I tap it, I can watch it again and I simply swipe down, tap it to watch it swipe down and it goes back home again and we could see that it gives me some basic analytics which showed me the number of views that that snap his head will go into ah to depth on that a little bit more on the very top one, you'll see the number 85. So that means it was probably about a Knauer ago that we created that snap and now just went to 88. And if I tap the eyeball, it shows me who has viewed this snap. How do you know who you want to engage with all the people who are engaging with you? And when you start to see some of the same names show up like, Ah, this is a person that's really digging my content I might want to reach out to them. We can actually tap on any name to see who they are, and we can add them immediately. In fact, Alex is watching my stuff. We're not friends. I just added him. Alex, if you're watching from home high, so it shows us who viewed. And there's one more feature here. And let me go to one that, um, you'll notice under some of the numbers, there's a green number might be saying, Well, what does that mean? That tells us who screen captured that snap. You know, one of your IPhone you screen capture by holding by tapping the home button and then clicking your power button capture. Excuse me? A screenshot. Well, if we tap on this, we see the number eight. And if I tap that, it shows me that world showing me two of them but eight people Screen cap that. Why would you screen cap a snap that rhymed? Um, here's why. Because this particular snap I shared a you Earl that told them here is how to watch the Snapchat training live today. So since Snapchat does not yet have Oh, that's funny, Alex that I just saved just sent me a message. We'll have to take a look at that in a moment to see what he said. That's there's that fun part right there. So there's this you, Earl, you can't click that you are. L I could tap that all day long, and it's never gonna take me to that website so you can give people a piece of information via Snapchat or they can give it to you in the way you save it is by screen capturing it that just went to my photo album now. So I've got that saved. I can go refer to it later. You have a question Is that you were showing a little earlier? There are stories with people who are paying for our they Are you able to put your girls in those stories? A great question. Wants to know if you could put your l's and stories. Uh, not yet. You can, you know, say them in there, but they're not applicable. And that is something that there is a lot of discussion amongst people who use Snapchat. Some really want there to be clickable girls, others air saying no, keep it pure and free from that and so we'll see what they dio. I have a hunch that eventually they will go that way, but right now, which is why the content for the brands that are in Discover tab is embedded into it. You also showed some analytics when you look at the eyeballs and things are those the ones that that you're able to save or you can look at it from a dashboard. Yes, we will. We will go into advanced analytics a little later on today. Right now, you can only view within Snapchat the analytics that show for your previous for your 24 hour period. I know you said that you're going to be covering the etiquette. Yes. However, if you were going to practice sending snaps during the break in things, what are some of the do's and dont's that creative life has Could you give us an idea? So here's what I'm gonna recommend is that get your hands on Snapchat Don't do private snaps yet. I'm gonna show you how to do those in the next segments, Um, and just kind of play around with it a little bit. So rather than just jump in feet first, let's make sure we get you off on the right footing and I'll get you there. Okay? Good things for the questions. Appreciate that. All right, let's We've got just a little bit of time here left in this segment, and let's go back to our slides, please. We're going to talk about, um, finding friends. There's gonna be two types of friends again. There's gonna be those that it is a two way relationship, and there's gonna be the one way. There are some people I follow on Snapchat that don't follow me back. Some people that are brands or they don't have time to follow everybody back and they don't follow me back. I just want to consume their content. Then there are those where there is the mutual following. The main thing for you is make sure you are following the people that you want to follow. There is no absolute nous you get to decide. It is your social media content that you get to curate and decide who is interesting to you. Who do you want to build a relationship with? Who do you not want to miss their story every day because it's so compelling because it inspires you're teaches you or because their family that you just want to keep in touch with. And I jumped ahead earlier, before we already talked about finding friends. Um, the different ways that we can do that I don't want to talk about the different colors that we see on Snapchat. And actually, we're gonna stick right here, um, on the slides to do this. And there's blue bubbles, which are text chats. There's purple boxes, which means you have received a video snap from somebody. There's red boxes, which means you've received a photo. Fortunately, the rainbow doesn't change these air once. Once you get him, they're always gonna be that way. And once you have viewed a blue text bubble, a purple video box or a red image box, they become outlined in that color. What does that look like? Looks just like this. So in your private snaps, a text chat, you'll be able to recognize before you open it. That that is text by the blue bubble. By the way, you'll see hearts next to some of mine. You're probably going Wow, he loves a lot of people. Well, yes, I do. But when I show you how to rename Ah friend. In fact, I'm just gonna go and do that in a moment. You can put set up mechanisms that make it easier for you to find people. And I did this for a group of people that wanted to be my V. I. P. S. So that I could easily recognize that there was somebody who was following me closely. They wanted to be identified in that group by putting a heart in front of their name. So we have text snaps or the blue chat bubbles. Videos of photo snaps are the purple actually think I have that backwards on here. Video snaps are purple, not not the photo and see authentic. We make mistakes even in the slides. And then the photo snaps are the purple images. I believe after you view them, they do disappear, but they stay outlines. You know what that was? There is also a way to save those, and we'll talk about that in the upcoming segment. Finally, if somebody has screen captured a snap, you have sent them. You see that little aero we thing right there? I don't even know what to call that. It's the screen capture symbol tells you that you sent somebody a snap. Maybe it was a fun picture. Maybe it had a URL in the text. Useful information. They went. Oh, I need to say that for example, people will order a product from me and I'll say, Send me your address and I'll send you This is well and they'll text me their address in Snapchat novel. Save it Now it's in my pictures. All have their address for later. That's a practical application of it going to go to my friends and I want Teoh. Let's go ahead and use my friend Chris Strub again. I'm gonna tap on that. I'm gonna click on the gear in the upper right corner and I'm gonna say edit name now anywhere in here I could just I could totally change us. And I could just rename it Chris Strub swamps. And that's because Chris does Snapchat swaps which will talk about it is a way of marketing and increasing your reach a little later on today. So I'm just gonna rename that and I'm gonna save it. And so now, even though his official name you see below it is Strub snap swaps According to my version of Snapchat, if I want to search for him, which I can do by tapping into the search box and I could type Chris Stirrup Si, si, it's showing up. So there's his official account at the top, which I put a one in front of. And then there is the one right below it that I named. So what's the one? Well, my closest friends that I don't want to miss their stuff it all. How do I find them? With thousands of people in the search bar, I've renamed each of them and I type one period. There they are. So Snapchat doesn't have its own built in way of lists, But you create your own. I also have twos, which I'm not gonna put up because I don't want anybody who sees it to think that their second rate citizen in my book because that's not what it is. But my V I p s. You can go to your emojis and if I type heart, you'll see here These are all the people that said so I renamed them. Just put a heart in front of him. You put whatever you want, Whatever your search mechanism is, you put the ghost, you put a smiley face, you put a finger pointing up whatever you want that becomes your search mechanism. So all you got to do again to change that is tap on a name in the upper right corner. We go toe edit, tap it and go to edit name and then I can Let's say I want to create a new group of people I'm gonna search for, um and it starts with an airplane. These air friends of mine that I travel with and I say that now when I go up to the search bar and I tap the airplane, somebody else uses an airplane at the front of their name. Perfect. We should. We looked at the Discover tab, and that is where the brands give their stories that are paying. However, there's a lot of brands on Snapchat that are not paying Snapchat. They're just users like you and I. And what I want to do is I want to take a look at a few brands that are using Snapchat. This is ever Lane. Uh, clothing, right? Guys, this is red. So you just saw a sneak peek of the dental? I'm gonna go crash the meeting and show you guys a couple things that we're talking about for next year. Way. So this is the person managing the ever lane social Media Snapchat account, and they're choosing to go behind the scenes to show people that ever lane maybe one of your favorite brands. And here's a little glimpse at what we're doing today. Another example comes from the people at Taco Bell. Everybody's familiar. A Taco Bell. They are. They do some really great Snapchat stuff. Check this out. Hey, welcome to our fifth episode of Taco Bell menu hacks. I'm Chris. And today we're taking on the breakfast menu. After watching these three hatch, I promise you, we're going to talk about started. Pac number one Cinnabon contract. Yeah, you heard that, right? Perhaps number two, we got brunch. Not third and final half got creamy cases. My gosh. So they're using Snapchat in this case way. Hope you enjoyed the mouthwatering breakfast hats. Send us your own top above any next time they're using it to share some ideas with their fans and followers and notice how they end it by encouraging engagement for the sake of time. Because I've got more words than I have time. Uh, Mariott has done some cool stuff by letting their their Snapchat people just kind of share some of what they're experiencing in their lives. And Marie Claire Claire, a magazine that's known for beauty and fashion, did this little story. They were in a location where they had all the Super Bowl rings, including from the world champion Denver Broncos. All right, the beauty magazine talking football. They're identifying with their audience in a new in different way Okay. We're gonna have time to go into, ah, steps, stories and memories. A little bit more in depth. What? I want to wrap up this segment here by doing what we call a one Take snap. Everybody get your Snapchat out. And in the full spirit of authenticity, I want you to go from this screen here, swipe up to this screen. The camera should be facing you. If it's not, then tap in the upper right corner right there. And that swaps the camera. Assuming it's facing you, give a big smile at the camera, and then you're going to just tap on the circle right there, like this. Everybody take it. Okay, You're gonna post that. And the way you're going to do that is at the very bottom. You see, the the third icon over is the square with the plus sign in the upper right corner wants you to tap it. And the first time you tap it, it's got two choices. Uh, grabbed the mic there. Ah, you know, tell me what the two choices are. It's added and add and don't show again. Okay, So what? It is a tutorial. You'll notice that you're going to Snapchat the first time. It kind of gives you a little guidance and so we don't ever want to see this message again. We want to add this to our story. And you never need to be reminded that tapping that icon adds it to your story. So tap, add and don't show again. That is what we call the one take snap. You may not have liked the picture you just posted. Ah, Lot of people will snap now and they'll delete it. No, we'll do it again and again. Totes perfect! This Israel, This is raw. This is in the moment. You just posted your first snap. Give yourself a round of applause. Well done.
