What is Snapchat?

So let's talk about a quick overview of what Snapchat really is. First of all, it is one of the fastest growing social networks. Mark Zuckerberg offered them $2 billion about two years ago in Snapchat said No, thank you, which doesn't make Mark Zuckerberg very happy because he likes from he can buy things and people say yes. Ah Snapchat is now valued at close to $18 billion projected to be 20 billion here by the end of the year or so is over 150 million users. Projections are well over 200 million into next year, so the numbers air significant. In fact, Snapchats growth is one of the fastest growing social networks that is out there right now. And this is why it's really important that you pay attention because even though those air very large numbers were still into the the part where we're entering the mainstream on Snapchat, a lot of people still don't know about it, which means there's opportunity to get in. You know how it is. If you get into a social platform early, you have an o...

pportunity to build a following faster than those who wait another year or two when it gets completely inundated were still at that point, especially in the demographic that isn't moment heels to get involved. The millennials, they get it. They've been playing in the kids as well. But for those of us that are above that age range, there's a lot of opportunity. And, of course, still for the millennials as well. So Snapchat is a platform where you can post images and photos, which can then be embellished a number of ways to tell stories now. Originally, Snapchat was you would send a private message to a friend, and once they viewed that message, it would disappear. And that was it. It was a private messaging service, and that's how it kind of got an unusual reputation early on. But Snapchat in late 2014 implemented what they call stories that became a public feed of your Snapchat. So just like you know what a Facebook timeline is. You make a post a status update, and there it is, and everybody can see post to post on your Facebook timeline or your Twitter timeline. Snapchat is now like that as well, where you can post an image or a video which can be embellished if you wish, and it's added to your story. Now the story still does disappear after 24 hours. So if I take a snap right now and posted to my Snapchat timeline my story in 24 hours it goes Onley. Now we can actually save them, and we're gonna teach you how to do that today as well. So Snapchat is a visual broadcast platform if you are a writer and prefer only to use text in your social communications, that it's really difficult to leverage the power of Snapchat. But if you understand the power of photos and videos than Snapchat is for you now it has. It's grown very quickly, and we've gone from messaging to stories. Now there is a learning curve and left to your own devices. You may get overwhelmed and say, I don't get it, I'm done. But once you understand the features in the functionality, you'll be like, This is easy. Who wants to be saying this is easy? I got this. By the end of the day, you're gonna be able to hit that easy button so the learning curve is not gonna be a challenge because the way that I teach is very methodical and linear. We go step by step. You do this, you do this, you do this and we're going to do it together. In those of you at home, Get your phone's out because we're going to do this all together. So who is the ideal user for Snapchat? Well, everybody do this. Take your fingers like this. Now take your other hand and feel this impulse. Okay, Everybody good, Great. We've got the ideal user base right here. Honestly, Snapchat is great for anybody that wants to be social with others and has a story to tell a message to share a business, a brand to grow pretty much across the board. Anybody can use Snapchat. And as faras businesses go, we are talking about from the solo preneurs to the small business to the medium size to the Fortune 100 companies. Snapchat covers the full spectrum and we're seeing Mawr and Mawr off the large corporations getting involved with Snapchat. And you're going to see some examples of that today. So one of the questions I get about Snapchat is do we really need another platform? isn't it? Enoughto have Facebook and Twitter and YouTube and Google Plus and linked in and Instagram Do we really need this? Well, the growth of Snapchat tells us that it is filling a hole that needs to be filled. Somebody wasn't doing what Snapchat now does. And that's why we're seeing this explosive growth. Do we need another platform in our lives? I don't know about need, but do we enjoy? And can we leverage a platform that fits who we are in the stories we want to tell? Absolutely. Which is why I have adopted it as a platform of choice. Already told you it can seem overwhelming. That's good. Everybody take a deep breath. Ah, Do you trust me? We got this. We got this KP. Trust me, we got the same effect right before we started Today I showed you something that you hadn't seen before Way We cut your tap time in half and got it done. So we referred to the use of statistics a little bit. 150 million people. 10 billion with a B. I want to say like Dr Evil 10 bilion daily video views that surpasses Facebook. Facebook has 1.6 billion users Snapchat just over 100 50 million. And because it is so video intensive people are consuming enormous amounts of video. 60% of the people that are in Snapchat are contributing content every day, and the average user spends minutes in the app every day. That's a lot, right this 24 hours in a day. So if the average user spending 30 I might spend 15 20 on average, grating and consuming content. There's some people that are spending hours on end doing both the number of the projections air now $20 billion worth. In fact, the word on the street is now that they're talking about becoming a publicly traded company. If they do, that means we'll have the opportunity to buy shares. And Snapchat, I have no holdings in Snapchat. I have no ownership of any part of the company. Ah, millennials currently account for about 70% of users. That number continues to go down as the number of non millennials goes up, so it's important for a number of reasons. First of all, it is the current water cooler. Used to be that Twitter was the water cooler. In fact, when I wrote my book Twitter Power, back in 2009 I said, Twitter is the water cooler of our time And by that I mean, what do you do when you go to the water cooler, you meet and talk to your colleagues? And what do you talk about? Somebody just shot some out sports. The weekend celebrities. What else? What that TV shows, elections your dog, right? Pretty much anything and everything. That's what the water cooler is. That's where we have conversation. Well, Snapchat is quickly becoming the water cooler where people engage and have conversations. Both public and private, You might wonder, is your audience they're simple. Answer is yes, they are there, and daily, more and more of them are coming to stab chat. And so another answer to the question of Why do we need or why would we use another platform? Is because if you are in business, you want to go where people are drinking from the water cooler because that's where the conversation is taking place. And if you're not entering that dialogue, your competition is, and guess what they're talking about you or the products and services that you offer, whether your part of the conversation or not. So this is where foam oh, fear of missing out comes into play. What if I'm not there? What if I'm not engaging? What this conversation is happening without me? Well, I don't want anybody to take a fear approach to Social Network. Instead flip it and say, Oh, there's people here and they're interested in having a conversation with the things that interest me. I want to be part of that. That's what social media is all about. We've already talked about a lot of ways. It can be used, and I'm going to demonstrate for you. Some of us do really well with what we call a blank slate. Now. I'm not an artist. I already told you that I can't draw stick man. And if somebody comes to me and says, Come up with an idea and they stop right there, period, I'm like, Well, it's blank like that wall. I don't know what to do with that. I like a starting point. Some people love the blank slate and the thing about the blanks latest. It inspires creativity. It says. There's nothing there right now, anything is possible. What can I create with this? Snapchat is important because it gives you an opportunity to draw your audience into the conversation. It can be compelling, and my experience has been again. I started in November 2015 and once I understood the interface, and once I understood how I could tell my stories in my particular way, I was hooked. I became a snap jet evangelist, not a not one paid by the company, although if they want to send me money, I'm great with that. But one who was passionate about the platform and began telling others about it and began training. And that's why I'm here today because I love this platform and I have so much fun with it, and I want to tell others how they can use it as well. So Snapchat is gaining steam in relevance, and I've been been on the hook for since November. I think it is here to stay and by here to stay. I mean, it has legs with the amount of innovation that they're doing on a regular basis. In fact, anybody watching this live now will know that in a week or two, Snapchat will have new feature. A new functionality. Things change very quickly, So the goal today is to bring you up to date on. This is what you can do with it right now and to grasp the philosophical approach to Snapchat because once you understand that they can add bells and whistles and you'll know how to implement them, Understanding the approach to it is really what is essential. So you don't want to miss out on Snapchat. It is a big deal.
