Adding Feathers & Student Designs Shared

for this style, I'll tell you a little bit about what I did. Um, I knew here that I wanted to use feathers, and so but I didn't. But because this lace naturally has holes in it, I didn't want the lines of the feathers to show through those holes too much. So I got this this stuff from my craft store. This is something that is used for, like, shaping hats or something like that. You know what it's called? It's a sort of a starched netting and would be a good description of it. The sexual started out green. I don't know if I've got it down here. I don't think I dio It started out green, and I knew that I just wanted something that I could paint metallic that would look nice through these holes. And, um, that wouldn't be like a solid piece of felt or something, because that would it would be pretty obvious that there was a solid piece of felt showing through those holes on your forehead. So So I painted this metallic and what I did. And, um, So what I did was I took a piece like this and ...

actually on this piece right here. You can see where I got some of that paint flaking that I was talking about something that we don't want that we don't want. So that's why you want to pull your your piece up. So there's a good example of what? Not to dio. But, um, I'm gonna reach across. Yeah, because I think I got really ambitious with the spark plugs. So I have a lot of gluing to do here, Gorgeous. Should remember the more spark Let's there are, the more gluing there is and the more and more fabulous it is. So, um so to make to put feathers on the back side of this crown, Um, there are two things that I that I would consider options. One would be to not use the lining. And Teoh just do your very best Teoh line up the line of the feather with the back side of the lace. Does that make sense? So you're disguising it behind the lines of the lace, and so then you just want to be pretty specific about where you glue that feather. But, um, but I didn't get quite that that, um, that specific So what I did was I painted this with some glue, and then I stuck. I stuck down this lining that matches the lace, and then it was able to grab my feathers. I'm gonna clear off my workspace just a little bit, so I can This has glue on it, but okay. Going to scoot this? Sure. Sure. That. That's perfect. Thank you. Yeah. So, um, so I painted this with glue, glued this guy down to disguise the backs of some of the feathers. And then I laid out my feathers right where I wanted them. And you can see these feathers are pretty curvy. And we'll be able to correct that a little bit with, uh, with the heat styling. Yes. We don't want to forget about that. I tell people that I flatter and my father, and now we can Teoh. Um, So I Aiken, lay down my feathers, get sort of a general arrangement that I like. I put the tall feather in the middle in this case, and so then that's about about the way I would want it to look. Then I would use my tacky glue for the feathers and, um, and go ahead and put the glue down and press the feathers toehold in the tacky glue. One thing that's so nice about Hot Blue is that it drives immediately and you know exactly where the glue is setting with the tacky glue. You need to be a little bit more hands on because it stays wet. Um and so what I'll do with my tacky glue is I'll let it dry a little bit, and then I'll come back to it in 10 or 15 minutes and just sort of press everything into place. So I know, um, I know just just where it's going to fall as it dries. And, um And so then, um, then once once I've got these feathers glued down, then I'll put one more piece of lining on the back side of the feathers. So any of you here do you feel like you would need some lining for your feathers, Heather? Okay, perfect. So I have. So I have some larger pieces of lining up here if if you want to come grab them and, um and you have some scissors down there, so why don't you Why don't you take this and sort of size out the way you'll need it. And, um, I'll go ahead and give you the tacky glue, and then here in a minute, we'll look at how you're putting your together and you can ask me any questions that you have. Thank you. Others before you do the string, um, in depends. Um, I would say, Well, it depends on whether you're gluing the string on or not. So if it's going toe overlap, just think about that. Um can answer your question. Yeah, with us. Where you at right now? So I have this and then I was going Teoh Beautiful Blue. This guy here, Okay? And then I'll just string my court through so gorgeous I could do feather first and yet Okay. Perfect. Okay. And I'm so glad that that we're looking at your example now, So you're actually using ah, little piece of feather trim. So if you Yeah, if you hold that up so we can look at it. So feather trim has has some ribbon or some fabric sewn on the bottom, and so it holds multiple feathers together. And so if you're going to use a line of feathers in many cases using feather trim makes it so much easier to control than if you use individual feathers. And so you're you're using yours even just a few inches worth as a fascinator. But you get a little bit more impact and movement by by having multiple feathers on the feather trim than if it were just one lone feather. So the reason I did individual feathers on this one, for example, is because I love this feather style and I couldn't get it on the trim. And again I only had to glue. I guess I used six feathers, so it wasn't like I was going on 20 or anything like that. And actually, let's talk about the experience of drafting used. What do you do to set the mood because a while to do this? And it's supposed to be, like, on experience. Yeah, you're what kind of scene. So I, um, I work on a table that my two year old can't get ahold of. Okay, so when uh, when things are laying out to dry and when they need to be there overnight, then they're out of reach. So it's not something that I constantly have to be moving from one place to another. Yeah, that's something to think about. Yeah, yeah, but do you play music? Do you get hot cocoa? You dance in your chair, you have to Damn. Yeah, I I'm I'm a big I listened to a lot of music while I work, okay. And this American life, the podcast. Oh, and they could always have creativelive playing in the background. Absolutely. Why? You're crying, learning some photo shop skills, photography skills, Talk about multitasking. Oh, yeah, you look to for inspiration for before you start e. I think you may know the answer. Pinter country. I do a lot of key word searching on Pinterest. Um, and so the key word searching is great. And then they're they're certain accounts that I follow that I know are going to have great inspiration for really specific types of of pieces that I'm that I'm looking for. Um, and then I I have a board on my Pinterest account. On my Pinterest account is, um, Jeanette Crawford, and I want to see your inspiration aboard called Party. And so that's where I have a combination of some headdress, inspiration, and, um, and also some. Some party, some event hosting inspiration. I didn't realize this, but it's drying really quickly. Yeah, I'm with you. I feel wonderful. How do I feel? Or how does my crown? You feel? What? We're bonding and Yeah, beautiful. Thank you. Fantastic. Yeah, I just kind of got got creative with Wonderful. I have a question. So I used the tacky glue to put my feathers on, and it came through Well, that dry clearing through Yeah. Yeah, it will dry. Clear. Okay. Yes. Um, yeah. So don't worry about that. Which is something I've seen happening while we're up here at first, You know, I put the thing on. I'm like, that's not very pretty glue, but honestly, it has dried very quickly and very clear. So you might notice. A theme with the way I work is to work with very forgiving materials, because, you know, I'm very and very detail oriented, naturally, but but you wanna you wanna have some flexibility? Oh, yes. So So to finish up talking about this example here of lining the feathers. Um, So So I described using the tacky glue to glue down these feathers. And then once again, I would paint. I would paint, um, this lining peace with glue and go ahead and and glue it down. And so then you can see on a finished product Here you can see here how the lining is very in obtrusive, but it really polishes the back of the feather. It does? Yeah. So So it feels very nicely made very, very conscientiously finished. And so if we look more closely at the front, um and you can see that some of my glitter is a bit blotchy here. Don't look at that part. No judges glitter judgment. So you you see here how the crow Shea lace It's got holes all through it and you very subtly see some hints of the metallic net lining peeking through. But it's very subtle and it it very much matches the style of the late crown. And so so then on the back, I, um so in again, I used to pieces of of the slain so one in front of the fathers and one behind it. And then I used my tacky glue once again to glue on this tie. It would also be be really great and simple to use hot glue, so it's really a matter of preference. I The tacky glue is very strong. And, um, sometimes you get a lot of gloves with, um with your hot glue. I think you guys can really? And you got the strings all over and sometime when you're working with feathers and I can be a little bit more complicated, but, um, But here what I was able to dio is, uh is lying. These feathers finish off the feathers with the glue, and then I put down a long strip of tacky glue all the way along the bottom, and you'll see that my lining and my feathers, they went all almost to the bottom of this crown. And then I put I put the court on over the lining, and so I put down a beat of glue all the way across. And then I attached the cord, and then I babysat it a little bit while I while it dried. So while it was still wet, I could sort of press like the feathers or raised up a little bit so I could I could press a little bit into the areas where they're not sticking up to make sure it's that he's really well. And in summary, if you, um, sort of feel how the court is is a fixed, you can tell it's really, really sturdy. Yeah. Oh, yeah. It feels really good. And I've got big muscles, right? Very, very strong. So, uh, so how? How are things? How are things coming out there? I think mine's finished. Can you bring it up here? Of course she's setting a headdress. Right. Well, you time mine on for me, I would know. Well, it works. Bangs look wonderful. Okay, So if you don't mind if we take a close look Sure. Stay here. Okay, so So you use the gold lays and put on three sparkle it, and, um, and then with the feathers, include them on. Did you use? Okay. I'll pull one little string of Great. It's always there and always happen, but it's so easy to remove that. Good. So, um, one thing that we could do here is is to use, um is to use something like this net she's going to protect. Tick my forehead? Yeah, to protect it and again to just clean it up a little bit. So um, you know, if you're fine with it, like this, and if it's something that just you will be using, then it's just fine like this. But, um, what did they try it on? And then I'll go back to glue that. Okay, Perfect. So let's go ahead and cut it to size. Um, how has that size for you? And and you can see that I painted this to the bronze. So it's not the exact same color, which I don't think any of us they're gonna be bothered by. So you can go ahead and glue that on which will feel really nice. And then and then here, um, we used the Gold Leather court, and I was really happy when I found this because it's such a good color match. And again, like I said, it's sort of have a good to to it. It's something that's easy. Well, it's pretty stiff, and then it ties pretty easily in the back. Are you ready to put it on? Okay, this is beautiful. By the way, you she'll tie and then I will tell you how it goes of things. It's great. You have to push it down a little bit more just because you get the movies Bang bond wear when I have my hair pulled back. Okay? The court isn't quite even in the back, so we're not going to get a full Bo, OK? It does. Yeah. Beautiful. That is wonderful. Love it. Yeah, it's great. Great job. Are you okay? All right. So what about mine? Well, for yours, I mean, what do you think of it? Oh, yeah. I want a critique. A crown Pretty Well, It's perfect. Okay, fabulous. Awesome. Awesome, I think. Are we doing over here? Yeah, well, we've got Christine has got hers. That looks fabulous. So you got the feather on the side of a flapper thing going there? Very downtown. Abbey was going. Holly, how are you doing? Are you going for the side feather as well? I did. I didn't really. That's what everybody was doing. My idea. It's great to see the consistencies like, Oh, you could you put some Krystle on the tip? I did. That looks beautiful. It really brings out the tips. That is really nice. Yeah, she went for the center. You have a really big jewels. That looks really great. Christian. It looks like you've gone for the site Feathers? Well, no, I'm not having any copying in class. How we doing online? Anybody joining in with ideas? They are. I mean, we've been sharing the ideas that have been going that we talk about different ways to do this. Maybe it's the same braiding the bread or maybe using different sizes off the lace, you know? So you have, like, short with size and outside. But I think everyone's just loving this, and, you know, they're really getting into it and sharing the different ideas. Okay, great. Well, we are going Teoh work on the headdress that, uh, that you see, modeled over there on Jay Ko. And actually, he's gonna be up here. Yes, he's going to make it. Yes. It doesn't look a easy I can make anything look complicated. Comedy of the highest degree. One thing when we when we come back from break will will have summary model. This I'm working on, weaving the cord through as you can see. And I'm just following the holes of the lace and making sure that I stay on. Okay, well, what we're doing that I will actually share some of the comments that we have gone online audience. Thank you. We've got people all over the world joining us. We've got some people in Brazil. We got people all over. The U. S. Is always I'm a bit disappointed at the British quotient, so we need to get those numbers up. Come on, Camilla. I expect everybody to get in the chat room. But simply after saying this looks like my dog will be wearing a feather crown by the end of the weekend, I think that's quite with Therefore, But why no make my dog will end up wearing one as well on Michelle. B. Is saying this would also be a great idea for a little girl's birthday party on. She's saying her mind is going wild with ideas.
