Designing the Headdress Pt 2

How are things going down there? You're already to start gluing just like Okay. Piece of the thicker leather. I think I ended up with two. Yes, I didn't. That's perfect. Thank you. So I was gonna dio a piece of ribbon, okay. On top of the thin leather, Or should I use the thick leather? Um, why don't you dio the thick one, Okay, just because that ribbon is pretty thin, okay? And we'll just make sure this hefty is it needs to be. And does this go in between the ribbon and the leather or behind the living room? So it depends on how many layers of leather you want. One scenario would be for you, too. Glue the ribbon onto the front leather and then glue on your feather is glue on your your tie. And then at another piece of leather as you're lining for the back of it. Yeah, Okay. And that's what I would recommend with the thin ribbit. Okay, because it is, it's very thin. And so it would show some of the ups and downs underneath it. Could you take that to casino? Absolutely. Okay. What? What...

other kind of design that we have going on down here to Georgia on top of it. That's really fun. Okay, I love it. And I'm just gonna dio that kind of very great on the combo. That's great. And all right, what are you going to do with your leather? Are you gonna leave it plain? I'm gonna see it looks plain and then see what to do after that. Okay? I think that sounds perfect. Go with the flow. And how about Italy? So I most want to goose feathers with, um, this brown mixture great of brothers, and then the gold ribbon. Okay, Marie, what's your preference with feathers for feathers? Oh, you know what? You pick the feathers for me, e. Trust your your opinion. We got with tall white once and a little speck. I like a little Yes. Yeah. Do you want toe run up here and grab? Um, I think I can, actually, I'm going to keep the big one. Thes guys, They're good for the glue, right? Yeah. Yeah, it's the glue is quite tacky. Okay. Um, so, uh, I'm gonna go with the biggest fresh. This isn't particularly potent, but I'm getting I have my own party. Really? Yeah, it does. It doesn't matter when it dries. That probably goes away. It's sort of Ah, you see me que level? You know what sort of alcohol? But it's okay. Yeah. Yeah. The permanent ones that come in like metal tubes. Best to keep away from kids. Yeah. You feel like you've gotta air your house out for, like days. OK, so it was this easy from the tube, Do you think? Why don't we do that? I think that's great with That's a great thing for the heat wave right under the light. Well, and we were in your here. I'm going, Um but that's a great suggestion. And I think that this is that this is something that sort of works differently. According Teoh, the glue you're using on the materials this one is it's working very thick right now. So, um, so we're just going to apply it straight out of the bottle with the leather? Well, that's a thinner, more water based glue. Okay, so the first thing will dio is to attach our feathers. So, um, so it's nice that we ended up with a taller band here. The the inch and 1/2 band because you can see that the stitching, it goes up quite a bit on these brothers. So would you like these feathers, Teoh Six straight up or two. I like when you actually molded them. I thought really good. Okay, we'll see how much How much how much fudge room we have here for curving it. But I think it'll work out great. Um, So here's Here's the next thing I'm going to do. I'm going to measure out the center of this band. I don't think that I can use my my measuring, Matt, Um, so that I know exactly where to place the center of my father. So we're at 13 just over 13 inches six. So I'm got black on black here, but, uh, I'm gonna make a little mark that really just I can see that, um, marks the middle, and then I'm going to measure the same for the feathers. And so here it looks like I've got, um, about six and 1/4 so I'm gonna mark center here. And so this is something I do a lot just with a little pencil or a pen just so that I can keep my bearings about what goes where. So I'm gonna line up the center of my feathers at the center of my band. And that's how we'll lay out the way we could arc it a little bit more. No, I think that's good. Okay, let's go. A little bit of another thing that I've done that, um, that sometimes works really nicely is to actually trim the edges of the feathers if you want it to be taller in the middle. So you can really be quite flexible with the feathers. He's smiling, kid. Remember, nice ones which are not quite a sort of feathery if you like. Yeah. Then perhaps that one over there, they the school still reactor heat. Yeah, but these don't need it as much because they're not already curving. Right? You look at at something like like the head dress that you're wearing. It already had a lot of curve in, and so it needed a little bit more correction on its own. So Christine is going there for a big jule in the center of the like that Very regal, very bling. Beautiful. It's very bling. Okay, I'm going. Teoh, use one of my brushes just to spread the glue out a little bit. This is one of the harder glues to work with. Singer is probably the heat in here is probably. And I think I've used the tacky glue also on the leather. The tacky glue is the one that that's a more all purpose glue. And it's it's no problem. I just I do trust the manufacturers in terms of what they say the different blues work for, which which is nice. So we'll go ahead and attach or feathers. I lost my CenterPoint. There we go. Okay, So I'm gonna go ahead and and press this down, and then I'm gonna flip it over and make sure it looks good from the front. Okay. Uh, what? That looks really good. Okay, um, it looks to me like, got a little extra glue there, and I don't want it to glued to the table. I put my sisters. They're just about the fact here by our king. Then we also got a little bit of the stem there. Yeah, it makes it fun. So I see that, um, I want to add a little bit more glue here. Teoh George or the closure, which is easy to do since I've got a little extra leather backing on it. And then, uh, here on the back, then we will add aligning. And so, this liner in particular, I cut it a little bit shorter than this in this piece that that we ended up using for the front. So it's about half in shorter, but it's going to work out just fine. In fact, I think what I'll dio is I'll use a shorter piece that will cover up the stitching on these feathers. And so, um, the length that I'd like there, we'll go ahead and trim this, too. So the way I'm going to glue this down is to glue that wouldn't there. And again, this is the back. So we can be flexible and then will will glue this one down. I'm going to trim it to the edge. So this is this is what we're working on now, Um, but we also need to add our our closure, so I haven't measured this one out yet, but I'll go ahead and estimate the length to go around my head. So, um, so that's the size I would want around my head. And then this was about the length that I would need for a bow. So I'm going to trim it right here, and I'm going Teoh, trim this lace with a little bit of an angle. Just Teoh, give it a nice edge. Do you actually need to finish? The edges are probably not. So No, you don't. Yeah, The leather is wonderful. Leather, leather. It doesn't need any any edging at all, which is great. So, um okay, so on the lace, I'm going to mark the middle and have everything going down there has the We have our own line friends joining in with the glue working for you. Yeah, it's going. It's going to give a really good hold, which is which is the exciting part. So, um, right here, I'm going to go ahead and put down the lace first and then put the lining on top of that of it. So again, we're going to use this glue straight out of the bottle, which, you know, that was a great suggestion. I'm Philippa amongst there have been times that I've watered glues down. Um, which in certain cases is no problem That's something that you can experiment with a little bit on your own. But if if you do need to use a paintbrush, Um, and it's in your having any trouble, you can water it down a little bit. List. Go stringing glue. There we go. OK, so I marked the center of my, um, my strip. I'm gonna line that up with the mark that I made earlier on the feathers, and I'm going to put it right through the middle and and you'll see here that I'm overlapping the feathers with this band. But sometimes, and especially with feathers that have a smaller strip, you can put the strip of the feathers on the top, and then you can tuck abandoned below it. So it's it's It's just sort of following the needs of the materials. All right, How's it looking? It looks pretty good. We're gonna get a little dirty with that glue and washes right off. So? So it's no problem. And again you have a daughter. Have you actually made these with your daughter? I haven't Tolo. Sorry. She's really small. Yeah, she's This is because my dog too. So I'm not gonna drive with him either. You know? Very good. He wants to wear one. Wonderful. Okay, so now, now I'm going. Teoh, add our first piece of lining. So it's gonna go about from the edge to edge of the feathers. And when I put this glue down, I'm gonna go. Um, I'm gonna follow the feathers here because I need the fellers Teoh to really be securely glued in. So I followed the line that I'm going Teoh attach the top of this leather to thank you. Good. Thank you. I will say, um, speaking of glues again when I am when I did use a permanent glue from and I can't even tell you exactly what I used But it was a permanent glue that came from a metal tube. It actually did have more of a hardening effect that you small for model making. Probably maybe not. Not so great with soft materials. Well, it actually worked well, and it was very sturdy in it. It gave it a lot of weight, just the glue itself. So if that's something that you prefer, you can do that. But again, when I'm when I'm making these for Children, I definitely prefer Thio Thio use a nontoxic version. And again, the Tandy leather weld. That is something that is specifically labeled as an ICO flow item. That's the term that use. Okay, so we've got, um we've got one more piece of lining to attach. Can you believe we're almost done? It's very quick. This this one that what takes time for these headdresses in particular, is the precision of the cutting. And especially when you're making more than one and you're cutting out multiple strips at a time, it can you can feel pretty tedious. Um, what you did that very quickly as well. It's, You know, one of the time I feel like it is. It's a sort of a breeze. And again, you're not sewing here. You're just glowing. So it's something that, um, I really think this is a very great item for for beginner. Crafter say there's no sewing involved. All these pieces come if you like ready made, you just need to come into the right shape on the right side that you want. It's really just trimming. The leather is the only thing, and with this black felt you actually bought it in the coming in half. So I think for beginners levels, this is really something that any any craft you can actually just dive in and just and just make straight away. Absolutely. How do you feel about doing it on your own? Oh, yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. You know, standing well back closer. How How is everything going down here? Wow, I e You guys have thes are wonderful. Oh, I really good. The ribbon looks beautiful. So we haven't even talked yet about about using some accessories and bling on these head dresses. And I like the way Christians also got the tall of feathers back as well. Beautiful. That looks pretty good. It's beautiful. You decided? Not with the blinker. You wanted to keep the plane. Yeah, I'm yet I love it. So, um, so again, we we czar Rhinestones on the crown's. And this is another place where you couldn't bring those Rhinestones out. Um, I guess we looked at that example with the sequins, which which are really nice. And again when I found those sequins, um, it was a line of sequins from from a section with trims where I could buy it by the yard and, um it just spoke to me. So, um, as at the store and I had some fun with, um with what they had to offer, I'm actually, that's one of the real joys of crafting, isn't it? It is discovering new materials. It seems something. Think I could make something out of that? You've given us some great ideas today. I think they have to make these basic cross. But look, how are students completely customized it to them. It's really great. I'm so glad we could customise so much just here among us. I have a quick question you wanted to give or, like, gift these crowns and fashionable head pieces. Which how would you suggest packaging wrapping? That's a good question. Um, well, using some of these methods with the crown's, you know, they're stiffened by the stiffening products and by the glue. And then, um, with the headdresses we've talked about, uh, about, you know, adding in the extra leather so that it it's got some hefty nous to it, so they're going to sort of take a form of their own. And so what I often dio is is, uh, with with Well, here's an example, like with this headdress. This would have a short a short front. But even if it had a longer one, I can put it together like this and sort of lay it down and surround it with tissue in a box so that it doesn't get smashed. But, um, but it's got some structure, you know. It's not just a little limp, a piece of fabric or leather. So this one, I'm just squeezing out some excess glue now because I know I put a little too much in there. Especially, say dries clear, so it will be okay exactly. I'm just making a mess. Have a great idea that says, maybe a pie box would work for package on also even one. That's clear. So you can kind of Wow, Yeah, I think that would be gorgeous. Some people are so good with holiday packaging, which is so fun really helps make season. I would love for you to put this on right now, but we've got some some leaky glues that will let it dry a little bit, but But we'll hold it up. And, you know, we talked about applying some feathers to the front, and I think we run out of time to do that. But But, actually, you know, for a guy that looks really stylish, I mean, that's just plain black and white. It looks very simple, but very effective. Very much. Wait, Drive by then Maybe I will actually come back because we got we got four courses or together we got three more to come. So it's a great opportunity to meet, aware that later on. And I think I think that your call on the rounded corners looks fabulous. It Yeah, it just adds a nice a nice edging. I really went overboard at the glue over here, just on the one side. But actually what The Black as well, I think would lend itself to the I think that way don't we lay some some, um, some jewels on it, just for fun? Yeah, absolutely. Leather blue, dry. Um, the leather. Well, that I've been talking about, Um, I would say all of them. You wanna sit overnight? Uh, this one, this one starting off, more tacky and a little bit drier. You can sort of tell. So that one probably takes longer to dry. And that one just it's got a little bit more water base to it. So I think the having more liquid in it makes to take a little longer. But, you know, it's not painfully slow by any means. We're getting creative, you got stars and there's wanting to see the strong Yeah, on. Then I'm going to go ahead and lay one of the spark clips from earlier on it, which, which again, is it's sort of the nice um, a nice fancy Ryan Stone. It's just a little bit nicer than your traditional acrylic Rhinestones. I've got a little bit more more bling here that, um Do you mind if I know a few of your side? Um, this is an edging that I got from the yard yardage section. Um, my local crafts are very nice, too. That could work. Here's the secret. Here is the line of sequence that we looked at earlier. I just love this. I got this that, um, Mendel's in, um, in the Haight Ashbury and again because they will come together. You don't need to worry about stitching or school together is come ready made perfect. Right. And so again, you would just put down a bit of glue. And for this I would use tacky glue. I'd say, Um because basically, you're gluing with the secret and the thread that's connecting it down to the leather. I think that's really nice. And that's pretty masculine It is. And that's a good contrast. We've got the black and white is great, and it could even go on the top on the edges rather than through the middle. Great ideas. Um, let's see. All that is holy done yet Almost. Oh, yeah. You have the tall feathers. They really make an impact, don't they? That's really pretty. All of them. They're beautiful. Does anyone feel the need? Teoh Heat style, their colors at all? We're all set, Christine, that's you done for the holiday party. We know what you're wearing. You're single, Father. They're worked out perfectly again. I think the way that feather is label that the sores as a marabou feather and it's got a lot of movement to it. And did you just use one e? I tied it together like that and then to give it more effect, looking you chatters actually said that's called a fascinator, right? Uh huh. That's the official sort of flapper terminology, our forties terminology and actually a lot of weight. Ladies now are wearing fascinators instead of hats for formal occasions, for for weddings. Except I've seen a lot in the society magazines, which I read all the time. I'm sure Camilla was fascinating and actually, in England, they're much more about head fashion. I mean, have you seen all the half right this, You know that there's definitely There you go. If, at the prime minister's wife wore a fascinator to Prince William's wedding, she got a lot of stick for it. But since then, they've really come into fashion, so she didn't wear a hat at all.
