Overcome Overspending

Now, in my yard, I have an orange tree, and my daughter loves oranges. So, she eats an orange every day, and this particular orange tree has a lot of seeds in it. So, I have to cut the seeds out for her 'cause the seeds are not digestible. The seed is meant to go in the ground to plant a new tree to build a new harvest. But what happens is it's the same in our money. Within your money is the ability to produce more. Every harvest carries the seed for the next harvest. But when we spend everything we make, we are spending the seed that was meant to be planted for the next harvest. And we are stuck in the cycle of being broke and not being able to make it at the end of the month, and this expense just happens to come up, and I can never quite get ahead. And if you're overspending and you think, "It's not me because I don't have maxed out credit cards," if you're spending everything you make, you are spending the seed that was meant to be planted for your next harvest. And that is why you...

can't get ahead. So we go out and we buy something, and we think, "It's just pants. "It's just another pair of black pants. "It's not really a big deal." But it so much more of a deal than just a pair of black pants. That money is also that seed. And if we can't hang on to that, you cannot get out of the cycle of not having enough money. So I can tell you, "Stop buying black pants," but it just never works. It never works because we just find another way to spend that money, and we lose building the thing that's gonna build our wealth. We miss investing in the business that we really wanted to create to build the next orange tree. We miss investing in our education to get a better job, to do the thing that we really want to do. We're eating our seed, and it's not meant to be eaten, it's not digestible. So what's the practice? The practice, particularly here, is creating a new neural pathway. Now, I really love reading, and I really love reading about the brain. And everything in neuroscience right now is talking about our ability to create a new neural pathway. And what happens is we get triggered by something, and then, we go out and spend. So we have an argument with our spouse, and we get online and shop to feel better. But we need to begin to create a new neural pathway so that we can begin to create new habits to do something different. Now, what we've been saying all day is awareness is progress. So, first, we get ourselves to the place where we have awareness about what is actually happening. And for a while, it's just gonna stay there. But this is what trips people up a lot. You think, "Okay, I know I'm doing this. "I want to do this over here, "and I see it happening, but I give up. "I just can't do it." And we give up not knowing that that awareness is turning the light on to a new path in our brain. But your brain took a long time to make this one. It's a deep groove. You're not just gonna cancel that one and start that one tomorrow. The paradigm shift can happen in an instant, but change takes time. Change takes time because we have to rewire our brains to go down the new path. So, first, we have awareness. We turn on the light, we see the new path. If I have a fight with my spouse, I go to the computer, I want to go shopping. I have the awareness now, "You know what? "I think this is really 'cause I'm really mad." "I think this is 'cause I'm feeling rejected," but you still want to push down that feeling, and you still continue to check out. But you've already lit up this new path, so now, the next step is sometimes, when that happens, we start going this way instead of that way. "Now, I have awareness. "I go online and I start shopping, "but I don't check out "because I am building in me "the ability to go down this new path, "and the more I go down the new path, "the more that new path in my brain is cemented." And this is the process of change. We have to stop doing the thing and spending our money and start a new practice of choosing something different. And sometimes, you're gonna choose something different, and sometimes, you're gonna go down the old path. But the more that you can go this way, the more that will become a new belief. And once you start running this way consistently, then this path is gonna be the path that becomes a groove in your brain, and this one is gonna die off. So once we can do the new behavior all the time, then we begin to see change. The workbook. What feeling are you covering? Feel like we come back to this over and over again. We have to get to the root of it. When do you feel a compulsive need to buy? Because then, you can work it back to what was the trigger. And are you spending everything you make? Are you eating the seed that should have been planted for your next harvest?

OMG!!! You two are amazing!!! I am so grateful for all of your insight, and preparation that you have shared with us, wow!!! Lucky me, to have come across such an informative talk. You brought a human element to what it's like to be an artist. Sharing your ups and downs but always forging forward to be the best that you can be, because that's what your heart longs for, and what you were put on this plant to accomplish and share with the world. I've been a professional photographer for 30 years, and feel so fortunate for the life I've been given. No matter how long you've been doing photography, or been successful, these two wonderful women help to analyze the big picture, which is so insightful. Through their observations, hard work, determination and belief they have forged forward and are sharing their knowledge with us. I'm a spender and this came at the perfect time, as I'm taking time to observe my patterns. Thank you so much for this stellar talk!

This was one of the best entrepreneur courses I've ever taken, not just on Creative Live, but pretty much anywhere. This course doesn't deal with the nitty gritty technical details of entrepreneurship. It doesn't teach you how to build a business plan, create a marketing plan, or how to actual run your business for success. There are literally thousands of courses and coaches that teach this. What this course EXCELS at is teaching you the psychology of what it takes to get past your mental and emotional blockages around wealth, entrepreneurship, and life in general. I literally just finished the course and am watching it for a second time because it's so good and is exactly what I need right now to get over my own emotional and psychological roadblocks to wealth. The negative reviews are most likely from people who didn't understand this was going to be about the inner game needed to succeed in business. If you're lacking the emotional or psychological empowerment to succeed, if you keep procrastinating on those most important business endeavors, or if you have no idea what's going on inside but you're not as wealthy as you want to be, this is the course for you!

This course came at exactly the time that I needed it! : ) I have been learning from a finance coach at my church that money isn't bad--it's the LOVE of money that's bad and the root of all evil. I've been learning over the last few months that money is a tool and can be used for good and this course just re-confirmed all of that. It's made me feel more confident and comfortable about the steps I've been recently taking to increase my pricing and makes me feel more comfortable with earning money, period. It is great for breaking down the false misconceptions you might have about money and is recommended for anyone struggling to price themselves, who doubt their worth or who just need (like I did) that extra step of confirmation that you're moving in the right direction. I loved this course so much I purchased it. Best $59 ever spent! (Seriously?! $59? I feel like I'm stealing at that price! I felt like, "How can I NOT purchase this investment towards my financial future?") Money well spent. The workbook is an added bonus too! :)
