3rd Party Apps to Add Dimension & Texture

since we've been talking about film looks, there's a lot of items you might want to have, like grit and light leaks that you actually cannot do in light room. So we've got some third party apps you can use on your mobile device. Give that extra little bit of film. Look, let's talk about a few of them. The first one I'd like to talk about is mixtures. Now, the cool thing about mixtures is it is also available for Photoshop, so you can actually do this on a higher end scale. Also, not just on little little files. So this one is really super cool. And with mixtures, you get these great film textures and grit and emotion of A. I really love this program. As you can tell, you can also put light leaks on so you could conceivably create an image in black and white in light room and then bring it into mixtures and put a light league on it. That's in color, which is very cool. So, um, the other thing about mixtures that I really enjoy are these emotions, and I think they're so beautiful and the...

y add that kind of film grit and imperfections that you really might want to use to take your image is the next level up and you can see you can do some kind of fun watercolor look, paper textures with them. It's all about layering. And here's the thing. I'm really trying to encourage you guys to look outside the box so you don't have to just stick to light room. You can extend yourself and get further, more effects, more looks by just expanding and the cool thing about mixtures they have. This thing called formulas and formulas are kind of like, You know, I kind of consider them like presets. So what you can do is you can actually load up formulas. They have a whole section on black and white formulas, and you can see that here. But you can also save your own formulas and give them to other people, so the mixture site has a whole way of doing it. You can do some through instagram, and it's definitely worth checking out. These are just a few of the inspirational formulas you can find on the mixtures website. Seriously, go check them out. You'll be inspired, and this is what I happen to do on Mono Lake. It's kind of fun, kind of cool, and you just type in those codes to get that formula. So again the program is called mixtures. You can customize it, and it's also available for Photoshop. I'm not gonna lie, though. It's a little slow. It's not the fastest app in the world, but, okay, we got a little time.

This is one of the BEST classes on Creative Live, and I have a Creators Pass and have taken tons! As a retired teacher I really appreciated Lisa's teaching style and the clear use of tech aides (circle, highlights etc) to lead me through the steps used on LR mobile. Her clear descriptions make the class easy to follow. I have also used LR mobile for several years and learned at least 3 new things in the first few minutes! In addition Lisa's in-depth knowledge of BNW and how to apply the principles of BNW to color conversions was wonderful. I have shot BNW for years in film and digital and also taught darkroom at the college level (ages ago) and Lisa's teaching and skills rank up there with the best. I learned even more the second time through and will come back to this class frequently and grab any others that Lisa Carney teaches. Highly recommend!

I have always loved black and white photography and so many of the other courses I have taken on Creative Live touch on black and white but it is never as in-depth as I would like it so I was very excited to see this course offered in Lisa's mobile series. I love how explains the black and white presets you can shoot pictures through in the LR camera, the profiles and then the presets in post. Her knowledge of light and how color adjustments even on a B&W photo affect how that light is shown is very informative. This course finally gave me more detailed knowledge and inspiration to do so much more with my B&W pictures. Thank you for another great class!
