images with water often make a great day for night because of the reflection. So starting out on this image here, turn off the code on the top. Do you know if you double click on the top, you can turn off the data information or the hist a gram handy little trick. So as always when I start, I like to hit the auto button just to see what kind of values I have. And then on this one I think what I'd like to do is click on the optics button and click remove chromatic aberration and enable lens correction. I'm gonna turn that on and off again so you can see what's happening here. So it'll automatically correct for the capture lens, which happens to be an iphone in this case. All right, I'm going to say okay to that and I'm going to go to my lights and I think what I'd like to do is really bring down the lights and I think for a minute on this one, I'd like this to be more of a black and white image. So I'm gonna go to my color and turn it to be black and white. And as a general rule, I find...
this helps me make my lighting decisions because I'm not distracted by the color. I'm going to go back to the lights now and I'm going to bring my exposure down really down and I think on this one, what I'd like to do, check out this. I'm going to go to the effects panel and I'm going to do a vignette which will darken the outside edges and that's really going to help us look like a day for night. And on the vignette you can change the midpoint. Do you see that it's going in or out? You can also change the feather to make it harder edge or softer edge. So right now I'm kind of digging this. So now I'm going to go to my selective edit to selectively change part of the coloring. So first of all, I think the boat's gotten too dark, so I'm gonna slide on over to selective edits, add a selective mask, and I think I'm just going to use the radio gradient and I'm going to go to the light panel and I'm gonna see if I can bring any of the shadows up. It's a little hard to see, but I'm definitely getting to some details. I might bring up my exposure, just a hair. Do you see that? Yeah, I think I like that. Now the other thing I like to do with day for night is have a really strong reflected light. So I'm going to use the paintbrush. Let me see what size brush I have. Yeah, that's pretty good. I can be a little messy on this and I'm gonna bump the highlights up. Do you see that now? I think I've gone too far on the mask. So remember when you're in selective edit, if I click on the paintbrush icon, I can then get the mask or eraser and I can just erase out that what I'd call over spray now. Yeah, I like that. I want to be clear. This is hard to do with your finger or your thumb and if I really need to get precise coloring, I would simply take this to the desktop version. I'm going to say I think I like this for now actually I think I'd like it to get a little darker. So I'm gonna go back to selective edit and I'm gonna do a linear gradient and here as you notice for this day for night you're pretty much always in the lights and I'm gonna bring the highlights down and in fact, I'm gonna bring the exposure down just a hair. So I'm digging that for now. Now. I think I'd like to give this some color and to do color on a black and white, you can do color grading, how cool is that. So I'm just going to be in the shadows and I'm going to add a cool, maybe more scion e yeah, more scion color to the shadows and, wow, I think that looks pretty cool. So again, the evening kind of look, you can play with this till the cows come home, as I like to say. And yeah, it's just a lot about selective at it. So I'm gonna do one more selective at it. I'm going to bring out a little more detail down here on the bottom and get them to see if I have any highlights to play with. Not much. There's some shadows. There you go. Now. I have some more and remember if you click and long hold, you get it before and after. Anyway, have fun. Definitely look at images with water.

I was so excited to be able to take this last course in the Mobile Photography series and as usual Lisa Carney did not disappoint! I just love her teaching style. She is relaxed, friendly and down to earth. She relates her techniques and processes in plain non techy talk and demonstrates it so you can follow along and learn. I have been a user of Photoshop and Lightroom Classic and now LR Mobile is my go to for most of my post processing work. I also learned about some great new apps for my iPhone and who knew you can take pictures through LR Mobile! Thank you Lisa for putting together this mobile series!
