Walking the Runway

I'm gonna take my heels off and put him back on and let me tell you how important it is to walk with heels. Because like I said, when you go to these castings, you're gonna walk in with girls or so intimidating that they're gonna rock that stiletto and make it sex on fire. And if you come in like you know, it's good, it's gonna hurt your chances of getting booked. So, um, what I've learned coming from top Model, I have the dinosaur stomp. Or I would do this thinking that, you know, that's how the Brazilian models walked. And but, no, it's really simple. It's about pushing your shoulders back. It's about zipping up a ziff. You have something engaging you here, but letting your shoulders Phyllis, you don't want to be. So where you you don't look relaxed. It's about zipping up. It's about tucking in, okay, it's about standing tall, not like this. And I think you one of you had too much of this when they walked in. It's got to be this. It's got to be shoulders back, zipped up and you want ...

to kind of glide when you come in, okay, this is walking slow, but you want to glide. You want to stop, pose? You don't want to spread your legs too far out. Okay. You wanna have it? Then you want a pivot? Turn face and walk back. Okay. Um that's where saying it's important with different heels to learn how to walk. It's almost as if you're floating and gliding versus stomping, or we call it like I'm taking off my shoes so you can see my my feet. But when I do walk, I'm gliding, you know, pausing, looking and glide where, as I was saying with some of the girls, it's or you know. So I want to break down all of the girls walks and kind of help you, you know, get a more simple walk, and then we'll get into having to find the back beat of every song. That's important. Understanding If you're walking for a designer, what the designer wants from you. If it is a kind of dreamy, lovely bridal show, you're not gonna walk in, you know, doing a rock and republic gene walk. Um, if you're modeling swimwear, you know how much bounce to put into that. So if I can get all of you girls tow line up and then we can kind of see what we're working with here. I'm gonna have all of you walk pause for however long you think turn back around, then I want you to circulate around here so that the next girl I can walk, OK? No, it's OK. So go ahead if you're walking. Okay, Walk back. I want you guys to walk in and walk back and then come back around. So that way, it gives me no time to kind of analyze what you're doing. Okay. Again. Okay, this is what I'm reading. Your okay? It's gotta be more relaxed. Less gap between your legs. Don't be bopping and don't be swaying. It's gotta be OK. Do you kind of get one? And here when you pause, you did this. It's like what happened? If you were showing someone stress, that would not be enough time to show it. The photographers wouldn't get enough opportunity to capture the designer's dress. And then the designer would be really upset because she didn't have a press image of the piece that she wanted to show off. So way need to stop. It's your moment, Teoh. You know, work the camera and have people see the outfit. Okay, on. Then you pivot and walk back, and you don't have to do this. I'm just doing I'm doing a very generic general. Easy. And tomorrow we'll get a little more styled with music, so you can see. But I just want to make It's very simple, and then we'll build off that. All right, so you're next, Raven. Okay. You're still a little too stiff. Upper body. I feel like you lied to watch with your legs and not your whole body on. This is like dead weight. This needs to be loose. Your arms. They don't need to sway, but they need to just be, like, hanging. Okay. All right. Next. Okay with you? It was more of in the beginning. I saw you crossing over a lot and you're holding yourself up, and it's got to be more relaxed. And then you came over and it's Were you a pageant girl? No. Um, there's a little bit of life a little nervous. That's you know what? It's totally fine. Believe me, they were not this, you know, communicative in a nice way. When I did top model, they were like you. Whatever gonna die, you looked like a freak on this. So I'm trying to be constructive, but definitely not critical. Or And I know that you're nervous. I in my head, You're next. I don't have a skin. Albert, I think that you have too much space in the leg, and you definitely know that you're nervous. And you're doing this with your face inviting her life and all of that. And that reads You cannot not do that. Um, no gum girls to when you're walking the runway. No gum. Okay, so here, you know, it's you were doing this, and it's got to be more of 11 location when you're walking. You know what I mean? I'm in a trance, Okay? I'm in a whole another world, and that's what you guys need to learn to when you're taking your pictures as a model. You're an actress. You're there. I don't care what that person's thinking of me in my head. I'm living out a Kanye West, the music video fan to see whatever it ISS live that out in your head. You need to learn how to disconnect with your surroundings and become whatever that designer wants you to be on. And for some people, it might look like plank. But you need to really just transform yourself into that Look into that designers vision of what they want you to be in the music get lost in that too. So that's important. Okay, so I'm gonna put my heels, Yeah, let's see what you want and I'll walk with you now so that while you're walking, you can kind of I will be making minor adjustments and your learn from today and then tomorrow your new day, Harry, what you've learned over. So let's start how we started before. We'll start with you, okay? And I'm gonna walk with you. Okay? And start on 12 and three in here. This here? Not so you're pushing this out too much. This needs to be loose in there, and I feel like those heels for you. Um, can you start again? I need to see how you're walking in them. The heels. Funny. It's like a looks like a cork or something. Get shoes that you can walk in. Okay. I just put these on today. I have never really walked in them before. I wanted to wear them, so I have a reason to wear them. If I put on my shoes that I'm normally comfortable with heels course you're gonna present yourself better. But you still need to learn how to walk in various shoes but get shoes that you're comfortable and when you're going to casting. Okay, All right. So let's start again. You're leading too much with your chin. Tuck your pelvis in and start again. Okay? Relax. This let go. Thay thay this this relax and glide through Already. It lasts of a stride. Not so far apart. It's better has and pivot girls. When you poke when you pose, it should be 123123 pivot and go it's not. And then no, it's gotta be like smooth. Okay, So try again. It's better. Better, but still, you still have to pivot. Okay, Rave in your next. Your shoulders are still too. Include together. Loosen up. Put a little more off in the walk. You know, it's better and a little too much this crossing over it's got to be more of okay. Walk with me Pause. 123 Pivot and turn. Okay. All right. Next. Okay. Okay, listen, this breathe out. Okay? Yeah. I pay and turn here, and I want to see your pivot. So it's when you're walking this walking up. 123 You guys, you're looking too scared. Just stop. Impose. It's like, like, if you're gonna follow with your eyes is rooting for you, girl. You know, I mean, it's gotta be like Bam, bam, bam, bam, bam! Pose. 123 Acknowledge, Acknowledge, pivot and come back. There's gotta be more of a presence, because this is what you're giving this. Okay? It's It's just not working. OK, OK, so let's try again. And I'm not gonna walk with you. Better presence there needed to be longer. And he needed to kind of turn. Because then when you're coming there and you're doing this, that's what it's looking like. Okay. Okay. All right. Next. Okay. It's a better presence. Um, this is what I'm what I'm reading. Is this a little bit of that? Yeah, a little too. Steph. It's got to be more of a glide. Okay. A pause looking looking looking pivot and coming back more of an attitude. Okay? It was, like, heavy. Yeah. Having were you an athlete. But you were OK, which is not a bad thing. Yeah, to step. Okay. So just, like kind of, you know, a little Lucy Better. Don't Don't clench your fists either. Your girls. It's important to leave your hands. Okay. None of this. None of this note deadlocked hands. It's and no shoulders because it comes off as being too masculine. When you start doing that, it's machine athlete. Is she masculine? What's going on? It's gotta be like you're a girl. Hey, I'm a grown thing when you see a guy high, you know you want to emote that femininity, So Okay, but it's better. Definitely better. Yes. How long did it take you to perfect your walker toward you? Felt confident, comfortable with probably like way had such a intense training with Miss Jay. And, um, I think working with him and he was a little exaggerated explaining how awful I waas that. It kind of embarrassed me to the point of me whining to definitely improve to be like I'm gonna show you, and I can do this and what Really Waas? Just the practice of that, seeing myself when I would see the video of how it helps. So yeah, and seeing myself and composing myself in my body and then seeing how different Um, it looked after he gave me The lesson is crucial Teoh and also just walking the fashion weeks. It's just practice, you know, and some girls get it. And some of the best girls you know, they don't really have a signature walk. They just do whatever. So not every girl is going to be made for runway and all that. But it's important that you know how to present yourself. It's important that you walk into that casting with Matthew, and it's like, you know, here's my book. Hey, what's up? You have to have that kind of f you in your head because it sells. Unfortunately, in fashion, you know, they don't care that you were the cheerleader and that, you know, you've got your deciding between two guys right now. You just don't know you love they You know you've got a make you desired by them by the people looking at your images. So if you walk in with the great presence and a great walk. It's definitely gonna sell you, you know? So any questions, Dio dio no money if this something or question from day Gee, is this something that the agency will provide guidance on? Okay, what's gonna happen is, you know, I had mystery teach me, and then, uh, maybe at the time on agent would say work on this or whatever, but a lot of times, no, they won't. They'll expect you to know, or they'll hire a really ridiculously expensive runway coach and try and get you paired up with another model. Come into the agency and bill you girls from anywhere from like 3 to $1300 for $ just to have a walking session. Okay, so what you're getting now is free and toe learn as much as you can, because and it just so it could be like, Oh, my God. We need to train her. We need her to work with, you know, Mr So and so we're gonna hire him to come in, and then you've got to have You're gonna have that taken out of your first paycheck from Fashion Week. or whatever. It's just amazing how much money has taken out. Yeah, probably really unknown. Unknown to most. Yeah, models. Okay, Emily August ass. Um, I'm says I'm five foot 10 and I find that I have to take shorter strides and high heels to feel comfortable. Any tips on how you can naturally lengthen your stride and heels without stopping? Yeah, the thing is to eat, I almost want to feel like you don't want to pick up your feet too much. And that's what these girls were doing. It's really about, like I say, almost floating. You're kind of just finding your way, because if you're picking up a heavy shoe or a quirky time kind of high heel or a trendy shoe and your ball of your foot is not gripping that shoe, it's going to be hard to walk, Okay, because you're trying to grip that shoe so that it doesn't fall off or that you can feel it. And that's why I think it's super important for girls to go to a casting with the shoe that you really are comfortable with. Andi, that fits you right? I just don't think that she was working for you. I don't feel like three offered, but, um Then again, you still have to learn how to walk in heels, walking shoes that are smaller. Oh, yeah. And even with stylists, it's hard for stylists to pull size 10 shoe. I'm a 10 but I'm also super tall or have access to shoes. And maybe they bring you a nine and you just deal with it and you're standing and posing all day with your feet scrunched in a size nine. And that's it. That's what you dio also super important as a model. If a stylist gives you a shoe, I cannot reiterate this enough. Okay, Ask them if the shoe has to be returned. Because if it does and you mess up that shoe, the stylist is gonna ask that you pay that. Okay, You need to make sure if they are that they need to tape up their shoes. If you're posing against a wall and you scrape up a hell or something like that, hopefully you'll have an amazing stylist that will clean it up and understand and be able to return the shoe. But stylist get very particular with shoes. So if you're testing. Bring shoes that the photographer says. But also, if they're lending you shoes, you need to ask, you know, do I need to return these? How do I take care of them and communicate with the stylist? Get very particular. Once a she was warned that stylist is going to get billed for that shoe if they can't return it, Okay. And sometimes they're pulling designer shoes for $800 and they're gonna hate you as a model. If you were in that shoe and you didn't know innocently and they can't return it, so make sure that you ask. Can I wear these? And are you expecting to return these? What's the set up for today? Okay. Getting of shoes. I really noticed a difference in the sound of your shoes. When yeah, these girls were walking. Is that something that maybe a casting agent they can tell by the sound of your shooting? I don't I don't stop. Pick up my feet. I've learned how to walk in heels. And that's great, too, when you walk into a party. I didn't want to be the Blankety client girl that's walking in. You know you want to have an elegant presence. You want to present yourself. You know, I'm also picking up the weight of my heel here and here. I'm not pressing down. I'm not stomping. I'm using my body toe walk a swell and in my legs. So yeah. So is it always that same walk? I have a question from fashion TV. Who says how would we go about doing a Victoria Secret walk? The models are always so energetic. Tiki looking and a damn seeking. What's the walking for me? We're gonna do that tomorrow. This is basically this is kind of like we're gonna be molding them into that. But if I start showing them the Victoria's Secret bounds and you know Betsey Johnson and all this stop, they are gonna be so confused for the next day. Because then what if you get booked for a bridal show and you have to walk like this? Well, you need to learn from that basic of what we've done today and carry that over. So this is the foundation, the foundation? Yeah, anywhere foundation and our people. Somebody else had asked about practicing in the mirror is at a great, great idea. And even for posing. Great. And I don't mean posing in front of the and then posted it on Facebook or instagram because nobody really cares about how you look in your bathroom. You know, I mean so cheesy. But no, it should be for you. It should be for your gauge of how engaged to kind of learn your angles and maybe how you look in the mirror when you're walking. You could see your posture better. Are you tilting too much when you walk? Are you doing this? Is your chin too high? I mean too low. Is it too high? The mirror can help. You have your friend video. You use your IPhone, you know, and see how you look. Luckily, accretive life has the downloads ready. They will have the downward loads today. Ready tomorrow morning. We did. Maybe you guys can get access to the video and see yourselves in comparison to her because it's a big difference. Rewatch Tonight I would watch three watch, Watch yourselves and watch her. Okay. Um, there were quite a few questions about outfits for casting, which I know we talked about earlier. Maybe, just if you could just follow up or just share that? Another question from D G pants versus spurts. And does the agency provide any guidance? Yes, That okay, when you're addressing for casting your even has a model. If you've got amazing legs, the agency will let you know we love your legs. We love your cleavage. We love whatever's the best for you. And that's what you're gonna emphasize when you go in on a casting. Okay, If you are going to wear jeans, make sure they're not trendy. They cannot be any sort of big labeled on the back. No big buttons, no funky pockets. I got lots of complaints. You might go spend $250 on the hippest pair of jeans, and the agency will be like the client if they're booking you for a Saks catalog. They don't want to see true religion on the back of a gene. If they're trying to book you for $3000 gig, okay, They really do want to book a girl that has a little bit of sex appeal to, But you don't want to come in tacky and Miss J and I, you know, we laugh because some girls come looking like hookers, and they don't look like they don't look like models. They look like streetwalkers. And that look is dead. That died a long time ago. That's not the kind of attention that you want to get. Even if your body looks amazing, it's still not anything that someone's gonna want to hire and pay a lot of money for, Maybe for a club promotion. But we've discussed that and where that can lead. So, um, you don't want to wear anything too trendy? No accessories. We said that No large hoops, no studs, no bands. No. Uh, you know, I know Red is really popular to evil eye or whatever. None of that. And it should be a classic hell in a classic handbag. Andi, it should just be minimal, I think.
