Segment 8 - Goal Setting for Success

So we talk about goal setting, so I know I've seen what I love creative lives I watch is a lot for most of you creatives out there, you know this, but I wouldn't put a little different spin on this when we set goals, we know they need to be smart goals this works really well for your goals are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time bound. I'm not going to dive into that because you've seen on many other great courses that you've had here, but goals are a framework for our life goal's actually help us live in the moment having self come cork self intrinsically driven goals based on what you want, add power and purpose to your life on when we assert ourselves towards a goal, we actually become more alive within the structure of goals there's more room to play, we need to make sure, though, that our goals are our own goals. What we desire versus what other people schools are of us will do two things a bit more motivated to do them and b that the energy behind the goals and a ...

much more positive and I love the saying I don't rember who it's by I should know this when there is a what for every how becomes possible so your goal is your what for on the wrestle take care of itself I just want to make sure that these goals are based on what you really desire not what we think on when we set goals you have more positive emotions now many times we look at the goal is being the end product but actually I want you to flip that and that it actually is the process of striving for the goals we hear that a lot. No, it's not the jury is not the destiny as the journey, not the destination, but it's kind of both. It is many moments that you have in flow in the creative moment working toward something bigger than yourself that really does empower your life and men in many ways striving for a goal is much more important, actually reaching your goal. But setting a goal does help your framework and what is motivating that goal? This is why I want your goals to make sure that it helps you find your why why you get up every day? What would this goal allow you to do? What do you really want to do in your life? What is the next thing you want to do for your business? There are more options today than ever, which also that means there's a lot more opportunity for regret. What is your why can can we hear from some of our studio audience right here and what your wise right now so one of the things that happened this year I went to my community my sister said I'm depressed I'm missing a goal that's meaningful to me help me come up with something andi what I go ended up being his family you know I'm sorry on the crying wind five your voice drops a lot why? Because I'm trying to talk through it but so that basically it was the why was being here that it was linking all of these pieces what do you do when you're feeling that depression now I used to put the blankets over my head and believe sleep was the answer I learned no reach out to your community, my community of the biggest chorus quiet person is my sister and then having that reason to get up every morning actually this I looked forward to being here today and then it just I lifted up I came out of that moment I don't have that ties him, but that was my wife for being here today and effects and it spirals upwards and it starts with this and thank you so much, my dearest sister for sharing and no guys that we're not alone in this I think that being happy striving for happiness doesn't mean you're not gonna feel lousy some days but it helps you the tools were gonna learn over the next few days it helps you become more resilient but when you're in that moment and you want to pull the blankets over your head and we're all we've all been there and I'm sure we'll be there at some point in our life it allows you to know that this moment is not forever and that's a big difference between an optimist someone who looks for the good a benefit find it versus off fault find and there's not a judgment attached to this but someone who would look at life an optimistic happier mindset will recognize that the darker moments are fleeting and they pay less attention to them on palm or highlight onto the happy and moments where is the people with a more pessimistic outlook actually flipped that they look at those darker moments as this where this is going to last forever and they kind of almost discount like teflon the good moments so thank you so much for sharing and for ever at home you know whether it's anxiety or stress or self doubt or depression or whatever it is you are not alone and we're going to talk about this a lot tomorrow but I want to share something with social media you know we should we share our shiny bits I showed my shiny bits on social media and then I take a shit now I've got the athan up shut up lighted and boof it up I'm sharing my shiners I don't push my blessed shiny bits up there for you but we're comparing our backstory to everyone else's shiny bits so just know you're not alone and then with you what you know don't confuse it with something that anyone else wants and the minute I hear the word I should be doing this it might not be your goal it's a goal that someone else said you and again on page eight in your work but we can actually start writing down these goals and we would love to hear from one more student. So renee, what is your why and how did you come to that? My wife is, um I heard someone say that we can't live in uh two places at once we can't live in the past or we can't live in the future and because I have had a lot of depression in my life I don't want to live there anymore it just keeps trying to come back and because I am finding myself I want to be happy um I'm so happy to be here because it gives me more tools in my tool bag to work with when I start filling those emotions from the past I can leave them and I can look at the goal which is forward pressing and that is really going to be hopeful I love that thank you so much and I think for a lot of us you know, we talk, we're going to let this happiness meeting this flourishing meter fifty percent of it is genetic, you know, my sister will be the first to say that I kind of popped out like a happy baby, chubby and happy. You know, I have weathered some storms, I had the odds kind of stacked in my favor and I know many people around me who I love dearly didn't start from that place. So also recognizing that our past does create a bit of who we are, and we honor that and also that we don't have to take our past dictate our future. So is looking at the past of fondness and taking what worked with us into the moment, and then I also wouldn't talk about bringing the passes the future we don't want to miss this present moment. Twi weiss was so busy here that we miss it twice. These are the good old days, sweet and the not so soon so you just go through this and we're going to move over to our ways we can help our goals with john c havens in a moment for me, whose life will you touch with this goal? This helps me when I feel like my goal may be too big, you know? My goal two years ago was I I don't know what I was going to call it I just knew there was a disconnect between what I was teaching on what I wanted to people to feel like I was seeing the same faces and I god bless every single one of you that has come to a workshop for border dvd or whatever. But I was told that there is a disconnect inside of all. What is that? So when I took a year off the circuit, I went to become a student of life again. But when I start to panic and go home I to be doing this here in this amazing space is one of the opportunity I throw it back to who am I going to touch with this goal? And it helps me stand in my power without going into the eagle place. And also it allows me tennis it in that discomfort a little bit off stretching myself. And then we also where will this gold take me? Just, you know, physically and metaphorically in my heart and my life in the world. You know what? How will my story re story? If it needs to based on your why and then we do want to make it time measurable you wanna have a set time line? I call this throwing your backpack over the wall declaring it loud and in writing you know e for your backpack over the wall you gotta go especially it's got your cell phone in it you're going for the backpack this was my backpack over the wall I spoke to creative lives is put on the calendar that put up seven months out from now on there's a saying timelines a closer in the mirror than they appear here anyway are this was my backpack over the wall declaring it in writing there was no going back it was no going back so throw that backpack make sure cellphones in it because you have to go over it right a down a date what's a date for your goal the world needs your voice right a date for you to deliver this dream put action behind it and turn it into a life where you can help others live their dreams and then which things do you need to change in your life to get towards the school which things are helping on which things are hindering and for many of us the things you might need to get rid off our own internal internal beliefs about ourselves on our worthiness in the world and then this is your wife why do you get up every morning this could be you or what you do I get up every morning because I believe that a life lived from a place of happiness and reframing movement from feelings into feelings versus numbers. That's it that's what I want to do the second half of my life, going, kicking into the box, screaming just rabbit to be happy. Last words.

I decided to do something just for me and I am so glad I did. I am completely enjoying Moving to Happiness. You said what made you happy in the past and I thought of my horse. What makes you happy now but I couldn't think of anything associated with that. Than the woman said "Just breath" and I immediately thought of nature. Walks in the park and the quietness. So you could hear the birds are see the deer. The leaves crunching underfoot in the Fall. Not far along in the course and don't have the book but oh am I enjoying it. Thank you so much Petra.

Overall, this was an awesome class. So much good content, so well taught, nice contributions from the live audience (which does not always happen). If I was assigning a grade, I would give Petra an A+ for a truly well put together class. She also did a good job of summarising the research in this area. : )
