Shoot: Brittany and Andi with their dog “Marley”

so thank you guys for being here. We have Britney and Andy with Marley. So how old is Marley? Three months old. And I met him out back, and he was super cute. He was, like, inviting my fingers. And he's like a little puppy teeth. So we're gonna dio wasn kind of a full portrait session with you guys. I want to do the three of you together and then, um, Justin by himself. And then did either of you want a shot with him like this? He just Yeah. OK, go. So let's actually get you guys up over here, So come on over. One jump right in. So I'm actually gonna have and I'm gonna make you do yoga second. So if you actually kind of stick your leg out like this, airbending sit like this and then you can sit right here. The purpose of doing that is, if you guys, they're kind of both sitting like this, and it's kind of like, initially for us. So do that. Stick your leg up. I know it's a small couch three. And I'm going to kind of shoot like a head shot. If you want to kick your leg out a little bit m...

ore. I'm not going to see it. Yeah, have a seat right here, huh? There we go. And they were gonna get him up on your laps a schoolbag as much as you can. And then you turn your shoulders towards me as much as you can personally. Turn, turn, turn, turn, turn Yet. And he's going to come up here on your left with you. So call him all the way up if you need to carry him up. But when I do this, I'm just gonna shoot. This is ahead. Shiny nose like, kind of looks funny, but like I said, it just kind of turns their bodies and get some closer together, as opposed to just like sitting both of them side by side next to each other all you're so cute. All right, let's take his harness off. If we could. Then Britney, are you? Scoot are used back as far as you can go on the couch. Some Cuban, just a test shot. Always do test shots, cause I don't wanna waste per year. I don't wanna make noises and, like, get him to Perkins years perfectly. And then my images weren't exposed. Good. Perfect. So we're just gonna hide this hands just so we don't see this thing? This one? Just keep your hands on him just like that, and turn your shoulders and as much as you can, you don't keep your banks together. Yeah, and actually, you scoot your bottom out just a little bit and then lean in because I want you shorter get so screwed up and then lean Perfect. You don't ever want the wife taller than the husband's. Very All right, you guys, you're gonna act like you're having a lot of fun already. So give me a smile is ready. Oh, my gosh. Those ears, You're all years. Okay, let's actually get him. If you can hold him up a little bit more, um, I want his, like, pause hanging over your arm and hold them just like that right there. That's what I want. Keep looking at this Really? And holding up even higher, close to your face. Ready and a smile and leading Have mainly leave me reeling. Perfect. And it's already I do too. Okay, we're gonna squished on here. So that's actually if you could stand up you can send up to. This is a really small catch them trying to fit them on. But parents stand now that we have. All right, sweetie, this isn't gonna do. I'm gonna make you squish on here. So this is your spot that you can do this? You're just intervene. I'm not gonna see your legs in there. You're sitting on the ground. You're leaning really close since me and you're right here, I will figure it out. Perfect. So this way, we kind of get your guys heads close together. So scoot your body even more this way because, Yeah, perfect. And let's get him. We can turn them around. So let's actually get his bottom in this hole here. Perfect like that. More so that we were still using the couch. But we're not squishing them all on there. And we want him up as high as he can be. So he needs to be, like, way higher If you can bend your leg and get him up. Yeah, Perfect. All right, guys, Somebody Lena, give me. Oh, my gosh. You're so cute. Uh, perfect. Did you see the difference that got his eyes up? Just like raising my hand up in the year. Perfect. Yea, you're so easy. This is years. Always do that point up. Right? Okay. I'm gonna have you guys stand up. Let's do a shot of him by himself. So let's give him all the way up here. This color is actually really good for him. So if you want to stand on the side, you can keep your hands on him. You're not in the portrait, and then you consent on this side. Yeah, And that way, if he tries to run off, you can stick your hands back in there. Just watch your hands and your hands on in the shop and watch your life. Because I have your feet in the shot too. Perfect. Here. So cute. Can you see that? Okay. Perfect. Oh, you're so cute. Okay, um, part of the good question. So I'm having them there one because I don't want them standing behind me. If they stand behind me, he's not gonna look at me. He's gonna look at them, and I want them standing there. So if he tries to run off, then we can do that. I love his crazy puppy legs. So we'll shoot that. Don't do it now. This is bad timing. He's busy biting when he's done and gives us that kind of from what else is there? That's what. I'm gonna make a noise. He's okay. That's an interesting leg, But give him a second. Okay? Just pet him a little bit. You guys ready? Ready, bud? Good job. And in an adult dog, I would not want this pose in the puppy shot. It's adorable. His legs are like, wonky and crazy. So it works for being a puppy. Heavenly all the way down it is perfect. Watch your hand, sweetie. Step out just a little bit. Oh! Oh, my gosh. Yours OK, here's a cute. Okay. Is that tethering for us? And you see that this is a great color for him, too. So let's do one more shot. Um, with you guys together and let's have him come down. I am gonna have you sit the original way. What I was trying to do earlier kind of would work better in a bigger couch. And this is really small. So how come down I'm just gonna have you guys sit and we're gonna do a headshot I want the three of your heads close together. He's doing perfect. He's like reacting to everything. All right, get him up here. I really don't care about your legs as much, but I want his head right in between. You guys so perfect and pull his tail around to the side. We don't want to sticking out between his legs. There you go, but and see if he'll sit on his own. Like putting his paws up here yet. There's a puppy dif charity. I want him up higher, though. If we could come, come on. Can lean in real close. You guys mainly lean. Perfect. That's the shot. Thank you. Perfect. Big smiles. Come on, you. There it is. Thank you. Good job. Awesome. Love it easy. I'll show one of those and we're tethering. Can you guys see that? Sorry. It took a ton. Daequan look good. Yeah. Okay. I want to dio you're still cute. Okay, let's actually have you guys stand all the way up. I just want to do one more shot because he's like being so easy. Let's get him off the couch. And it's just so cute cause he's so wonky. So totally like Capture it. It's fun. Get here. Sorry, but by the couch. All right, We're going to get a shot just with your feet. You're gonna stand here. I'm gonna shoot from your waist below, so I don't have to smile or anything. He's just gonna look right back at me. So in this type of shot, I know that I am shooting on the floor so easy. Let me just shoot and hunt. Just kind of stand like, give me an attitude. So easy. Done. Done and done. Yeah, I love it. Okay, Perfect number time. Call him again. Call them you guys. So he looks up at you cells every time. 20% of the time, that will sell with them looking up. So that was the easiest shoot in the world that I'm done him. Cover them. Thank you. Yea, Good job. Perfect. Like so easy moving job, buddy. So and that's one of the sessions. I mean, if I was shooting and I knew what kind of products they wanted, I can kind of get more variety, but he's so easy. I mean, he's reacting to every single noise, my fingers air, tasty, So yeah, that captures his personality. I love that you won't keep the wonky shots. There's two questions. The first is you always shoot so wide and then just crop in later I do. And part of the reason I do that is because I sell a lot of canvas gallery wraps. If I shoot too tight, I don't have enough image to wrap. So I do shoot. I mean, I don't shoot loose to the sense that I shoot a full length and said it was a head shot. But I do shoot how you're seeing and zoom in a little bit perfectly. I have a technical question of both the equipment. Yes, Um, the strobes that I use have a long recycle time. So I miss shots like what you're getting because I'm not able to rapid fire. So maybe you could tell us a little bit about what you're using. Yeah, well, these are what these are our pro photo lite heads. I've never used them before. I I use photogenic lights in my studio, but same concept, these air working perfectly. They're firing like, super consistently. I use big soft boxes, but you can shoot pretty quickly. You can't shoot. Like if you shoot too fast, you're gonna get the black screen. But im you can shoot a lot faster with these and you can with speed lights. So and you can even do. I mean, I do photogenic. This is pro photo alien bees. I mean, any of those that you can get like a faster strobe with, so has one more quick. Yes, please. Quite a few people are asking about Lori says, how do you get 20 to images from this session? And she said she is still unclear as to how you get so much variety in such a short amount of time. So this session that we just shot this is thank you guys so much. Um, this is a pretty short session. I mean, I'm not going to shoot like like I said, I tell clients expect to be here for an hour. I'm not gonna photograph them for an hour because we have, like, seven sessions that were fitting in the next hour and 1/2. So if that was a session that I was showing in 25 images, I would just do more variety of it. So when I did his, you know, full length on the couch. Then zoom in and do a head shot and then get the 45 degree angle and then get him looking up at the owner. And just in that one shot where he's laying, you have five shots to show the client. So and just when he was on the floor, like he was totally just staying there. So just angle your lights down and shoot down on your hardwood floor. So it's not that it has to take that much longer, but yeah, I wanted to show I don't have 25 images to show them she's correct. Do not. Okay? Yeah. How many do you with them? Probably 10. 10 great images. But if I was shooting, that is a really session. Like I said, I would just be like, OK, the hardwood floor shoot down on him, you know, change your angles up. Yeah, OK, great. Thank you. Yeah. And then probably to in that situation, I would do each owner with the dog. So just for more variety? Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Question. Do you have opposing book that you show your clients before you shoot to have them pick what they like now. So it's standard routine, posing, flow or whatever is gonna look good for them is what? Ideo Okay? Yeah, because there's some people who just I don't want to show their whole body. I'm gonna show closer. Just depends. What? So just depends what they're gonna look good with. So I don't have ah set poses that I do with people And that also matters to like, If they tell me that the portrait seem to be horizontal or the portrait seem to be vertical, I'm gonna pose them completely differently. And you make that up on the fly Once you've met them in person and you see, yeah, once I know what they need a shoot like I know that you need vertical. So, like the shot that we did, where she was up on the couch, he was lower puppies. They're like, I can crop that this way. But the head shot when they were saying next to each other, that's a horizontal shot for sure. So yeah, so it's not like a set pose that I do by any means. It's just and sometimes, like if the puppies kind of, like, wonky and not like holding himself up like let's switch it up Or like what I started with, like in my head. It sounded really good now sickness. Not really looking that good on this size couch, Let's just switch it up.

I've watched A LOT of CreativeLIVE courses and Arica is by far the most effective and talented instructor I've seen. She's also got an extraordinary ability to photograph animals and their humans while remaining calm and in control. Even if you're not a pet photographer, this is a fabulous resource. Putting aside how amazing it is to watch her photograph in what seems like impossible situations and get the shot time after time, she also gives a lot of great information that applies to any professional photographer, whether they photograph pets or not. She's truly an amazing talent and I hope she does many more workshops -- I'm not a pet photographer but I'll watch all of them.

Arica's presentation was extraordinary. Such an incredible amount of valuable, practical information on everything from the basics of how to run a business profitably to how to attract and maintain value-oriented clientele to actually working with and photographing a variety of pets and their people. Arica demonstrated time and again during the live shoots that she was in mastery of both her techniques and her subjects, and in a way that felt simultaneously relaxed/casual and businesslike. That last session with the horse, duck, chicken, rabbits, dogs and people was a challenging balancing act and she pulled it off flawlessly. Finally, I appreciate all the detail she provided, such as names of vendors and how and why she uses each one. Absolutely no filler, all substance. I am in the process of taking my own pet photography from sideline business/ volunteer work to profit-making status and the timing of this program could not have been better for me. I'm a huge fan and look forward to more from her although it’s hard to imagine that there is anything left for her to cover about this topic because in this course, she did it all. A natural talent: smart, great on-screen presence, honest and a true teacher. Thank you, Arica!

Hi I am an aspiring pet photographer. I own 6 dogs and 4 cats that have been rescued in some way. I have learned a lot just by practicing with them. Arica's course today and yesterday showed me what I was doing wrong and everything that I was doing right. I impressed myself that I actually was doing very well. lol. I do have a web site http://squeakynes.wix.com/lisas-creations ,and if you can review it and give me some positive critism, it would just be terrific. There is a tab titled pets etc. My email address is under contact me. Thank you in advance. I tried to watch other courses but none of them would keep my attention. I had no problem with Arica AT ALL. I definitely will attend all and any other courses she offers. Her courses made me realize this dream of mine is just what I am suppose to do in life. I have a lot of the same qualities as Arica and my passion for animals. But...............I WILL NOT photograph snakes, no way. lol Arica, you TOTALLY ROCK. I look forward to the next one. xoxo
