Shoot: Concept Driven Portraits Part 2

Let's get Nina. First way. We're gonna kick some balloons back on here. Good job. I want to see something really quick with your hair. Nina. Let me see what happens when I do this. I don't want to totally mess it up, but it might be too full of chalk. Oh, wait. So I was gonna have you hold it and have all your hair sticking to its. You're gonna be like this. Be like, Oh, and looking at it sideways. Like what they do in. Okay, so go ahead and hold it right here for me. Here, hold it right down here for me, sweetie. Yeah, And then let me get it. Kind of static on your hair. Looks straightforward at me. Dropped this arm down there. You got it. Here. Look forward at me, sweetie. Look at those blue eyes without pink hair. Goodness gracious. There we go. And then just kind of hold aside and, like, look good. It, like, kind of with a surprise. There you go. And then at me, kind of feel like a big one. I want the sound, like reading to three. Like, Look, I just throw you a huge surprise party ...

and there's a pony and 100 presents And a cake this tall and you just walked in and you wanna go? Okay. Ready? Don't give me that giggle again. Perfect. Okay. And then let's go ahead and have you still want you to have a boat about this one? This one has good color for you. It's got blues on it a lot of blue So go ahead and just hold. I'm just gonna have you kind of, like, just hold it and let it like, fling to the fact, like, not fling, But hold it So it's just coming off. You like that. They're going to let that other arm drop for me. Perfect. And then go ahead and let it drop and give me a little leg. Crisscross. I met. Dropped. Like hold it in your hand and drop it down. I'm sorry. That was my fault. There's gonna give me a little leg crisscross like this. Go ahead. Look down at the ground like he did. Perfect. Good job, sweetheart. And I want you to look over your shoulder and giggle back at McKenna. Can you left out of make her laugh McKenna. Be silly. Perfect on one more at me. I just want a just a nice, pretty smile. Ready? 123 And then I'm gonna move my angle just a little bit because she has that balloon coming out of her head. Here we go. And that's another thing to watch for when we're doing stuff like this. Is those balloons making weird appearances off of different areas, So keeping an eye on that? Um okay, who wants to go next? Good. Tough studio is ready. All right. Um, he sorry. You're like, I've been holding these balloons for, like, 20 minutes. So have you. Actually, I think I'm gonna have you put them behind you and yours. What? Wonder if we actually put him on If they'd be a little bit further back from your head. So it's not smothering. You can. This will tie on your foot. Good balancing. You can use my shoulder if you need to. I feel like it's gonna hold, but it let me see if I go like that. Can you hold that? You can put your toes down. I want when I tell you to go, then you're just gonna lift Okay, So keep your toe down so you can balance, and I'll tell you when to go, and you're just gonna look back over your shoulder at it. Ready that Go. OK, go and put it down. Just give me two clicks and then you can put it down, K. Ready, Set. Go. Either eating you that one might or might not work. Those balloons. They must be attracted to the chalk in the hair or something, because they keep trying to eat the girls. There you go. And put that in that hand out there. Perfect. Do you guys want to throw balloons again for me? Well, one of you go to the other side mechanic. Do you want to go on this side, honey? Okay. So, Sydney, because the balloons air kind of blocking like I'm gonna have you hold them kind of more towards the backdrop. Perfect e, like, other always. Okay. Okay. Are you guys ready? I'm gonna give you a three count and then Sidney, what you're gonna do. So you're gonna hold that like that? And you just kind of kind of give me, like, a and they're gonna throw balloons. All that you Are you ready? Are you girls ready? Everybody ready for a three count? And then this time we're gonna do one more time. If Sydney doesn't get taken over by the balloons this time you do that. Same is like last, but you're gonna do it at me. Okay. Ready, Set. Go. Perfect. You guys aren't used to seeing your pictures come up on screen, are you? Is it weird way I noticed in there? Keep look over. Like, am I doing it right if I do anything, Okay. Good job, sweetheart. Do we have any other questions before I switch out girls or anything? Anybody around? Good. Okay, So I want to do one shot where you're all in on the ground amongst all the balloons. So let see. Thank you. All three of you. So I want you right in the middle. Keep scoot your bottom this way A little bit. We hurt perfect film or a little more. A little more. OK, now you can lay down. So, Nina, I'm actually gonna have you. They're sending their status. Yeah. Okay. So my canon will you lay right here? So you're head's gonna go right by Sydney. Go ahead, use this hand and just hold on to your hair. Right there. So you hurt. Okay? You're gonna lay down. Your head's gonna go right next to her. Yeah. I'm gonna slide you around. Are you ready? And then, Nina, I'm actually gonna put you right here. So you're head's gonna bump up against theirs. You're gonna bump the top of McKenna's headcase. I'll fix it. It's OK. It's just your things. Yeah, you would. You rather be You know what? Just come on the side of the kind of, actually. Now I think about it. Go ahead and come right over here, sweetie. Did you bonk in? Yeah. What happened? It's okay. I'll fix it once you sit. Sit up. Come here, sweetie. Okay. Way down. Okay. You're gonna ready? So what I'm trying to do here is just makes swirls of the color. Oh seok going way down there. You go to kind of mimic again. The balloons have the balloons. Look, there's gonna swirl like some a cannon and leaning a little bit. And then, Sidney, you're gonna squeeze a little bit closer to McKenna for me, honey, all your heads or touching your head to head. And then port McKenna is gonna get a chair put over the top of her. No. So I can stand up tall enough to actually get you all in the picture. You ready? Do you trust it? Yeah. Maybe I should stand on the first to make sure it won't break. Good. What's so funny? Okay, everybody leave. I won't fall on you. You trust me. Okay. So everybody lead. It's stable. I promise. So everyone put your heads together. Yes. Didn t hold on like that. McKenna had just put your hands perfect her if it girls. Good job. So I'm gonna actually need Well, that's really dark. Um, I'm actually gonna need to Grandmother Lens really quick, because even standing on the terror can't get all three of them. So what? I think I'll Dio while we're switching lenses, I will have Nina. I'm just gonna get Nina. So can you scratch your head that way? Just a little bit, sweetheart. Perfect way down. There you go. Perfect. Just like that. That's not hurting your legs. Right. Okay, great. Here, sweetie. Go and look off that way. So, Shannon, when you were shooting the three of them. It was cut. It was cutting off both outside of their hair, which is the part that I wanted. So I'm gonna switch out to my 35 really quick. I was shooting the 85. We're gonna put this back over McKenna so she can't go anywhere. It's okay, honey. Uh, so, yeah, I have 85 on. I'm just gonna switch out really quick to the 35 so I can get all of you hopes. Okay, Go ahead and lay down just like you were before, and we'll get this shot really quick and then be all done. I'll fix it. Plan leading. And then this. Actually, this plans will allow me to get some balloons and stuff into, so it's even better. Go ahead. Lay down, sweetheart. We're gonna put those heads together. There you go. Closer. Closer. Closer. Love one another getting your Sydney right here next to me. Kenan. Good job, sweetie. What? You What can you bring about? I can't hear it. You can hear Miss me whispering. Gonna hold on. You just told a little in tip thing. Okay. All right. Okay. We're gonna try this one again. Are you guys ready? Okay. So go ahead. Put those heads together. Good job. She's down here trying to get my swirls for me. No, you fix my here. Okay? Heads together for me sitting. Go ahead. Lean on their perfect, actually. Can I get just a tiny bit of help with some people bringing some balloons? You went stating and everybody else to do it. You guys, you guys were the picture. So? So I just need all around their head, but it seems to keep Yeah. No, no, no. Where we can ago, one more right over. Perfect. Let's get it off her hair right there. Just so I can see the swirls. Yes, you're good. Ok, OK, you raise. Ready? Okay. Here we go. Go ahead. We and heads together again. Carry here. Said let that one only on the ground for me, honey. Like, let your arm just go. There you go. If you could just let it go with okay? Okay. Are you ready? Eyes right here. Okay. Not this time. I want big giggles. 12 Great. Good job. Good job. Okay. You guys can sit up now. That was a rough one to get wasn't it? Okay. And what I might even do on this one is since I have all those balloons, which is nice, I can kind of, like, wrapped him down and bring it around if I need to. Do we need to fix you? Don't have you run off really quick and have someone fix this. Wait, me? I got it. Let me see the front of your baby That worked, okay? Who did we leave off with? You didn't get your individual shots for the second time, right? Okay, Well, the years that for the second time, then OK, do you want to do some dance? Lose? Yeah, that would be super cute. Okay, so what, honey, I think she's going to do. Do you know how to do leap some stuff? Do you have to balance? Have you taken ballet? You could pretend that's even better. Okay, So why don't have you girls do you guys going to the balloon thrown thing again? You wanna go on that for me? Okay, so right there and then back up like one foot. Exactly. Miss, switch off. Sorry. Switching my lens back just since I'm not doing that wide angle anymore. Fine. Ok, OK. All right. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna do a three count, and what that means is they're gonna throw the balloons. But you know how the balloons take A couple seconds actually float down. So you're just gonna have to hold it for a couple seconds. Does that work? Which one do you want to do? I liked all three that you just showed me. Okay, let me get that framed up first. Go ahead. Do that for me again. So what? Actually, is there a way on this arm? You can actually bring it over your head like this. So that your tighter in camp? Yes. OK. Are you ready? Where's the balloons girl for McKenna? Okay, this time, on the count of three. You guys were going to throw the balloons, K. All right, Ready? 123 Can you giggle at me? McKenna? Perfect. Good jobs. We hurt. That was awesome. Do you want to try a second post like that? Okay. Okay. You guys ready for a three count? It does sound like thunder, doesn't it? Look, There you are. Yes. Can you point your fingers when you keep them together and put them when you're stretching it. Are you ready? Let me see which one you're gonna do this time. And then again, just bring the hand up tighter so that I have more yet Perfect. Yes. So I'll give a three count. Yep. Right where you are. OK, carry ready. Bring the hand in a little more. Big filed hopes. Here we go. No, no, you're perfect. Okay, So what I would like to do now is get a couple that are just a little more portrait e in, like, of your face in your hair and fun stuff like that. So let's make sure you're all done up here. Do you like this tucked in? Is that what the problem was before? Let me tuck it in for you. Okay. Okay. So go ahead and look right here. Let's get those fingernails up to kind of bring out that green that's in your hair and stuff. Perfect. You could even like you can grab the strap. You can, but I want to see the nails Or even, like, put on So there. Yeah, perfect. One little hair out of your eyes beautiful. It even brings out. On the other hand, can you turn it so that the nails are showing instead of Yeah, and then just bring those up so I can see Perfect. And I just give me a little smile on that one. Perfect. Good job. Okay. And then let's do a side with You're gonna face the window for me and then you're just gonna turn yet. Perfect. Just like that. Awesome. Absolutely perfect. So on something like this, I love the feel of the way her body is supposed. And I love the way that it looks when she looks over, shoulder me for just a portrait. So I'll get this shot both up close and and far away, and then I'll pull back on it to get the whole scene. And actually, on this one, go ahead. And, like, hold your hands, let me think. And then I just want you to stare straight forward at the window. Go ahead, stare straight forward. Just like this. Like you're just gonna look straight. I just want your profile here is gonna be like this right here is yes. So a little more turned like yet now just turn your head. There you go. Good job. Okay. Are you being the entertainment for me? Okay, so I want to get a couple of the same type of shots of bold Nina and and, uh, Sydney. I don't remember. Look, I don't know if it's moving so fast. I remember if I got just headshots, I want to go ahead and get that really quick. So whoever of you to want to go first in the Kennedy I see it on. OK, go ahead and come on in. Actually, what I'm gonna have I'm gonna use this deflated balloon really quick just to get a little more personality back in the shot. Maybe Kind of cute me think for a second. So trying to think I want you to be, like, sad cause your balloons deflated So and always be cute if it was on a string, huh? And just falling down, she just pop one. Do you want a pop? One of these? Do you like popping balloons? How are you gonna pop on it? Sit on it? I don't know. I just don't like popped balloons. You gotta be quick about it, E. I'm not gonna look. Okay, Perfect. Okay, So I'm gonna have you do, Then you're gonna hold it like this. That wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. And you're just gonna be like this, Like, because when your brilliance has popped. Okay? Way to go, Sydney. Pop the balloon. Let's switch to this arm now. So that's not in your life. Great. Appear at me, did you? It does not be a big power. Just a little bit sad. And then street straight at me like this. There you go. You don't want a super Posey citizens up like this, and then you're gonna look so it's all gonna be about the face. It's not gonna be anything about the posing of the body to bring up a little bit higher, so we can really see that pop one. And you're just gonna kind of look at it like and then I want one. We're looking at me with big giggles because we forgot about the pop balloon or because you pop the balloon. Perfect. Good job. Awesome. Okay, let's get some pretty little portrait of you. I guess we'll have to worry about that one flying away anymore. huh? Okay. Come forward. Just a little bit. I'm actually gonna have you sit down. You want to sit crisscross for me job? Okay. Um, I do want the fan for these, so yeah, maybe I will have you stand honey, so we don't Well, either way, yeah, I want to keep it on. The form is gonna make the girls kick it like they did before. We'll just be fast so they don't get too tired. OK? Are you ready? Said, you ready for this? I'm gonna blow you out of here. Well, on your hat. Is it called? Go ahead, hold a balloon for me. Like a straight like this. Good job, guys. Keep it going. I wanted It's good that's going in front of your face. So you ready? Go ahead and let it blow in front of God and, like, let it. Okay, look right down a little bit. Okay? I'm sorry. I'll be another one coming at you. Okay? You ready? Try and kick him behind your okay, guys. Okay. Don't move a muscle after this one deal. She's breathing. She's turning into a nice que Let the balloon fall off the side of your name, honey. There you go. Beautiful. Perfect. Good job. Okay, I'm turning it off and then go ahead and turn sideways for me. So your feet go towards the girls. Let's kick some of these balloons back and for you. Good job. You guys are good helpers. Of course. Ok, E think we'll do one more set up and I'll throw some questions to you, and then we'll head out to our next segment. That would be perfect. I'll do this of Sydney. And then if I could just get the quick headshots in, You know, that was pretty much perfect. Okay, You ready? Thing is it Got to own it. Perfect. Bring that hair. Can you shake that Harris with a little bit bigger on the inside? Perfect. Yeah. Great job. And then one more just gonna have you, like, bring the knees up, pull over and let your your elbows dangle off of um, yes, just like that. Can you look back over your shoulder and laugh with both laugh of those people? Perfect. Good job, Sydney. Okay. Nina, are you ready for your final jump in there? Okay, so we're gonna do the fan on you. Really? quick. So go ahead and sit right here up. This will be the last time we have to make any of you so cold. Ok? OK. Come right here, sweetheart. E No, it's gonna make you cold. Did you see Sydney? Yeah. Just turned into a nice que cute ice cube. But a nice que perfect that what you can dio actually perfect Didn't bring your chin down. Just pay attention to me for a couple seconds K chin down a little bit and let that blow a little bit more. Go ahead and bring it up a little bit more across. I don't mind if it's in your face a little bit. Just like that. Looked right at me. Go ahead. Look that way. And one more right here, straight at me. Can you sit crisscross for me? Just like that? Leave the hair just like that and look right here. Just like you are. Perfect. Oh, hold that. Don't move. Don't move. Don't move. Hair is perfect. Done with muscle. Be like a statue. You can do it. Oh, no. My zipper just stuck. Are you serious? Set up a little bit straighter for me And you're almost done like this. Watch me like this and there's gonna push. There you go. You just come forward at me, like, beautiful. Just like that. Right here. Look down at the ground. And then I used to me. And guess what? You're all done. You did it. You did awesome. Such a good job, you guys. Are you tired? I think that you didn't think this would be such a workout. Did you keep you guys work in? All right? I'm good for questions. All right. Fantastic. So we had a question from Mary that says these girls have obviously had some some instruction on posing and they are professionals. Is there more detailed instructing kids who are sort of camera shy, average kids? How do you How do you pull those thes que poses out of them? So most that I do a lot of the mirroring where I sit down tonight or and I do a lot of hands on. So if I want their hand to go out to the side a little bit, then I'll go and I'll move their hand out to the side where I want it or a lot of times to I'll just, like, ask some questions that they have to think about. And I find when people are thinking they kind of naturally relax and get kind of introspective. And then I just say, Oh, freeze Now bring your eyes up And usually you have a pretty good like pose where they're just like and then that the eyes come up and it's usually a pretty nice. It's a way to let them feel, I think, a little less posed if you're, you know, having the conversation with them and things like that. And just all the posing tricks and stuff that we've gone over the past couple days was working really well for shy kids and kids that I don't know what to dio um, playing in the Tripped. You know, Simon says, those kind of things they work really well for. For that

I loved this course. If you already know what you are doing as a photographer and are looking for fun and inspiration, this is a great class. Shannon didn't focus on the technical aspects, but rather HER way of working. She offered many, many fun and inspiring ideas to build a photo business that feeds your soul, rather than a business that just earns money from clients. She has taken an art form and made it her own. Her work is the result of her focus on her own personal style, which is fun, stylish, trendy and happy. I found this video to be inspiring and leading me towards making images that are my personal style. I can see how this course may have been challenging for people who are more about the technical aspects of photography, but hey, anyone can learn technique. The ART comes in when you can make it your own, when you can use photography as a way to express and reflect what you go going on on the inside. In Shannon's case, it's joy. Thanks CL for a fun, inspiring class and thanks, Shannon, for sharing your heart and your art. I had fun.

I really enjoyed this class. I love Shannon's style both of photography and connecting with the children and families she photographs. She doesn't tell you what to do step-by-step, but rather offers you a bag of tricks which to draw from. Rather than telling you what to do, she shows you what works for her. I found the course very inspiring and the posing techniques helpful. She successfully demonstrates that you can create beautiful photographs with no more than a wall or a chair but she also shows you how to go all out with a detailed styled shoot. She shows that there is not one formula for success.
