Enhancing Eyes and Teeth

I would get you too create two different adjustment layers for that do one for the irises because they're going to need a different level than the whites and then do another one for the whites of the eyes, so go ahead and create another levels adjustment close this panel set the blend mo to something in the light and category screen works really well. Go ahead and fill that mass with black and now, with the brush set to paint with white, come back in and reveal that lightning on lee on the whites of her eyes. This is another trick for taking about five to ten years off of a person's age because as we get older are the whites of our eyes darken and so especially if you work with seniors this khun b a great little retouched to do that just makes them look a little bit younger makes her eyes look a little bit younger, you know and I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with being older I felt that one coming so mouse over to the other eye and again don't ever, ever ever let your clients see you do this stuff because you'll give him a complex oh my gosh, I have to worry about how the whites in my eyes look, I thought I just had to worry about my body and my hair this's terrible, okay, so we're going to call that good so obviously way to white so wouldn't drop the opacity way back to something like twenty percent now let's look at the before and after there's the before there's the after subtle but brighter okay let's take a look at one more image like that where we actually have some teeth its image number eighteen so here's our before here's our after yes, I'll go ahead and delete that layer let's just do it on the teeth this time since we've been working with eyes already is exact same technique, same steps so this is about our fourth image that we've done this on, so go ahead and create an empty levels adjustment layer close that panel change the blend mode to screen make sure you've activated the mask make your four grand color chip black fill the bass with black by pressing optionally on the mac or halt back space on a pc come in with the brush tool set to paint with white and lighten those teeth way easier to do with this method than any other method in the program and you don't have to do it in one brush stroke like I'm doing you can pay release your mouse button pay release your mouse button and if you use a soft edge brush when you're doing this which is all we've been using throughout this whole course then you don't have to worry about the transition between the lightning in the rial photo it won't look retouch and now again toggle the before top of the visibility eye of that layer often on to see the before and the after and that helps you determine how far back on opacity you need to go to make it look more realistic and you may not realize what a change you've created until you toggle that visibility I often on okay, so you do the teeth on one adjustment layer the irises on another layer and the whites of the eyes if they need it on another layer okay, so I would definitely would break up those three pieces and a portrait that way you get individual opacity control over each element that you've done and if you go too far you haven't messed up your decimate layer like if you go overboard on the teeth and you don't have to start over so I like splitting it up twenty desperately because again adjustment layers just don't add a lot of fat to file size so you can have its way more efficient to have a slew of adjustment layers than it is to have a slew of image layers. If they didn't add a little bit of shine instead of color like to sharpening okay, yeah, I'd sharpen it ok, so let's call that good a little too dark so what can we do drop opacity to something that looks riel so then you can toggle your visibility I often on to see the before and after I mean, when I go up to a little bit more pretty big difference again don't everyone with clients see you doing this? First time I had a professional head shot taken I was really great friends with all those folks that did it and they booted me right out of the room and would let would not let me watch what they did to my photo and I begged them they said, no, you really don't want to know like, oh no, but yes, oh it's just a good idea and never to let your client see the re touches that you do lisa photo marsh would like to know if you can adjust the eye color and whites even if they're wearing glasses yeah, absolutely, yes, we're going to get into the idea of how like her eyes are pretty much closed how you'd expander white in the eyes a little bit you do that at all if we have time for that's the very last technique and I would do it using the liquefy filter yeah in the liquefy filter, which unfortunately is one of two or three filters that refused to run a smart object so you've got no choice but to duplicate your layer then you can use the a bold tool inside the liquefy filter and you just want to make the brush about the same size as the eyes and then just with clicks than it will expand the itis little bit, it bulges, and if you go too far with it, you will create a creature that looks a lot like gollum from lord of the rings, which is fun to d during halloween. What do you think is best sharpened lands so softening skin? If you need to do it, that would consider that in the retouching realm. Yeah, so I would do that after color correction before any creative color effects like black and white duo tones and things like that.
