Now we're in folder number four so we're gonna work with e adobe camera raw filter that's new and photoshopped cc so we'll open up an image here I'm going to activate another tool aside from the crop tool so that we don't get distracted by this crop box so here here's an image that I shot at a st peter's basilica recently and if you ever seen the bad conceding in st peter's you know there's a huge dome on top of the building really beautiful down and at the very tippy tippy tippy tippy top of that dome there is a tiny, tiny tiny little painting it looks it looks about the size of a pinhead when you're looking at it just with your naked eye but the good folks at linz pro to go dot com sent me a three hundred millimeter l siri's cannon lynn's in which I could zoom all the way up to the top and actually see the darn painting that's way the heck up there inside the very top of the dome so let's party get was a great company if you're thinking about buying a lindsay or you wantto test out s...

ome equipment before you purchase it so it's a gear rental company and they really are fabulous we'll talk more about them later on this afternoon but that's how I got this great shot at the very top but the only problem was this is what the shot looked like, so pretty, pretty flat and overexposed and just gross, so when you're shooting and raw format, you can double click a raw file on your computer in camera raw will open because it gets installed right alongside of photo shops, a very powerful plug in it's all slider base. You're in it's our nondestructive so you can get out of anything that you've done at any time basically camera rise, keeping a list of your edit requests, and it only really applies them to the image when you save it in another format other than raw. So that's when your head it's kind of get baked in if he will, but you can always get out of him. So camera is really the easiest place to do any kind of exposure or tonal corrections, and I say, total, I'm talking about color stuff, so fixing color and lighting adding edge vignettes is very simple in camera. Raw changing color tins is very simple in camera raw it's really a nice place to work in camera rise. Really, what the develop module in light room is so how's that so if you open an image, a raw image and the camera raul window comes, you can then tell camerata sina image over the photo shop as a smart object. When you do that, you have the ability to get back to the camera raw plugging in any time by double clicking the smart object in your layers panel and pop open that program just instantly j pegs and other file formats aren't as easy to get into camera raw you have tio work a little bit to open them up in camera raw so in front of shops, sisi adobe added a camera roth filter, which makes it incredibly easy to use all the power of the easy to use controls in camera on any kind of layer that's there in your photo shot document so that's what we're going to do so let's pretend that this was a j peg say it wasn't but for our purposes let's say that it is and I didn't want to try to use photo shops controls to fix the exposure in atonality of this image, I want to use easy sliders, so what we can do is pop this image open in camera raw through the filter minion but what's the first thing we're going to do to activate all the layers that comprise our image come up to the filter menu and choose convert for smart filters because we want the ability to run this nonsense detective lee we want the automatic layer mask that comes with using smart filters we want those blending options and all the other goodies so now let's go back to the filter mini and choose camera rafeal turned again this particular filter is new in photo shop cease see so if you were running an earlier version you're not going to see that but it is oh so handy in my macworld and pc world review of of photoshopped bridge and camera c c I I said that the camera all filter was worth the price of the creative clout and it certainly can't be because it's incredibly powerful so here is the camera all filter and I've got a full day deep dive on camera ross in my course catalogs I invite you to take that out but just for the purposes of today let's just go ahead and click the auto link and that will that's telling camera hey just do what you think needs to be done to this poor image right here so we'll give it a click and if you don't like what that button did then just click the default but next time it takes you right back to your original image but we'll go ahead and roll with auto so now we can trot down here through these very easy to use sliders and try to fix our image if any slider is set to anything other than zero to get it back to zero all you have to do is double click the slider itself in that resets that particular adjustment back to zero just so you know, so to quickly fix this image I would grab the highlight slider and I would drag it to the left. Why did the left well look at the colors or the shading that's in this particular slider I want to darken my highlights so too dark in them I'm not going to drag them to the right because the sliders telling me that my highlights will get lighter if I drag it to the right so I want to drag this direction too dark in the highlight. So do you pay attention, tio? What is filled inside of these flyers says that's your vision look you of what the heck it that's what the heck is gonna happen? Depending upon which direction you drag so let's drag her highlight slider to the lift and we're going dark in those highlights ride up now we can drag our shadows slider to the right toe, lighten the shadows that might come in here and add cem nice contrast and then bump up the clarity to make that all nice and happy maybe give it a little bit more vibrance so very quickly using camera ross sliders I produce at least what in my opinion isn't much better image that I had to start out with and you can toggle the preview often on here in the camera or a window to kind of check your progress by either clicking the checkbox next to preview or using the p kee p for preview so you can see a before and after. So camera has some amazing, amazing tools in there, so if I eat to take that out and then we can click ok and now we're back over here in our original image so here's our before and here's our after and we've got that automatic mask. If we wanted to hide those changes from a certain portion of the image, we could do that by clicking to activate the mask and then painting or applying black with any tool that you want. There's nothing to say that you couldn't grab a quick selection tool. Come over here, select a part of your image and then click the mask itself and fill that part of the image with black toe hide the changes from that particular area. We use the brush tool earlier because it's very natural rated kind of selectively hide and reveal, but you could also create a selection and then make sure that you're on the layer mask come into the edit menu and she's phil and from the eu's poppet menu in the phil dialogue, just cheese, black that's always gonna be an option there so now, over here in the smart. The mask we can see the changes that we made in camera are being hidden from the area inside of our selection. So these masks over here or like a miniature of your entire document so just by glancing at the mask you can tell exactly where the effects of whatever that filter is are being hidden. Oh, in that kind of center part of that picture is press send u s oh, actually we're chatting at breakfast this morning about um the camera filter is there a noise reduction in the camera filter? Yes threats. Okay, thank you very much and that's a great place to reduce noise. Yeah there's several little things that camera filter makes our camera plugin makes so much easier edge even getting is a great thing to do even camera raw noise reduction is really great in camera raw. Um cloning out spot to super using camera that's pretty easy to infect a shop teo honestly, any kind of exposure and tonal corrections or super easy todo we look to you showed us lends correction yesterday too. Yeah, yeah split toning is easy to dio straightening with the new upright feature is easier to do in cameron we're going to a little bit of that here in a second go as well but the best way to get ahold of camera raw is are one of the best ways you want to be I want to be a little bit humble, but do check out the full day deep dive that I did on camera because it's really nice. I've got a ton of instructions on how to his camera in my book, you know all of the missing manuals that I've done from c s for through two cc have how to do things in camera wrong as well. So do check out that book. All right, so let's pop open another image here and speaking of edge of in getting so here's our original image and I will show you what I did in camera. Here's another little quick tips for you if you want to toggle off all the other layers in your layers panel and on ly shou one layer, then mouse over to the visibility eyeball of that one layer in option or all on a mac, click it. See how far footage shot turned off the visibility of these other layers for me. It's closed that group there we go see how they're all off if I want to turn them all back on the night, just option or all click that layer again in every l everything else gets turned back on so that's nice. So for this particular technique remember in the extras files I have completed the technique for you, but I've also duplicated the original layer so that you can experiment with recreating the technique yourself so let's turn off the visibility I of the two layers I made for you so here we are back at the original image so it's click to activate it in our layers panel and again if this image we're comprised of multiple layers and you go ahead and activate all of those layers now let's come into the filter menu she's convert for smart filters back up to the filter menu and choose camera raw filter so this time we could perhaps at a little contrast we could change the color temperature of the image if we want we want to make it look a little bit more warm then we could drive the temperature slider slightly to the right and as we scroll down here I love adding clarity tio these photos it really just bumps up the contrast mainly in the mid tones that's a real nice thing to do and then perhaps at a a little bit of iran's in perhaps darken our highlights just a little bit and now let's come over here tio the effects panel and let's add an end vignettes camera is a great place to add an edge vignette and edge of india is just a a softening of the area of the outside edges of your image in a very soft, gradual way and the edge vignette can be either black or white so dark or light, so we're going to click the little effects button here in the camera raul window so each one of these little buttons has its own set of controls you could use camera or ought to go take a color image and drop the color from it and turn it into a grayscale image wouldn't be a true grayscale image because you would still have all of your couple color channels in the document. So if you needed to produce a really grayscale image let's say for two color printing on a pre press, then you could certainly do this, but you would need to change the mode of your photo shopped document to gray scale in order to drop out the color information. This basically just hides the color information but it's still lurking in your image so as you click on each one of these little buttons, then you get a different set of controls there's the new upright controls and camera raul will talk about those in just a minute, but for the vignette ing let's click the effects button and you that's kind of easy to remember because you can think of a vignette as a special effect so a special edge if it so then from these buttons just hunt for the one that is affects. So we're going to come down to this post crop vignette ing area here and the slider again tells you exactly what's gonna happen depending upon the direction in which he drag if you want a dark edvin, yet you're going to drag that side or to the left. If you want a white edge vignette, then you're going to drag that slider to the right. So for this image let's, try a light vignette so as I click and drag to the right, you can see that vignette occurring to my image and you can use these other controls down here to find tune in mid point. Really diskant controls the width of it. How wide is that vignette? So if I wanted not quite as wide, I drive it to the right if I want it wider, so he's changing where the midpoint of that is for the center point of it is drag it to the left so you can find him it in myriad ways. You can change the shape a little bit more here with around this slider, and then if you want to make the edges of it softer or not as soft and you could alter the feather slider here let's just say we like that and then we can click ok they went done all of that with very easy to use sliders using the camera ralph filter now you don't always have to go into photo shop you may be able to do all the edits that you need tio in camera rock but if you want to do anything that requires a selection uh masking adding text collages, swapping heads great thing to do after breakup family reunions, divorces I highly recommend that who needs a therapist when you photoshopped but so I've got some text up here just to give you an idea of well, if you do all that on camera raul why even be in photo shopped to begin with? Well, the purpose of this little discussion was to show you howto access camera raw after you're already in photo shop so maybe to use on a j peg or what have you but for this particular example we've added some nice text because bernini the sculpture was the one that actually designed st peter square the colin odd around it and there's this is a huge oval shaped hoo ha I mean absolutely huge thing but there's one spot in the center of st peter square where you can stand there and no matter which direction you look at this colin odd you on ly si one row of columns everywhere you look but there's really like three or four rows of columns here so it's it's an optical illusion it's really need to try to find that spot and look around and you only see one column when you know like, oh my gosh, they're all perfectly lined up is really neat, so go ahead and close that image and now let's take a look at using the new upright feature in camera raw eight that comes with photo shop cc cannot get camera right if you're running cia six so let's issues in the upright feature, which is a great way to level out your images horizontally and vertically as well as fixed any perspective problems. So when I shot this image of the trevi fountain, it looks like it's leaning bag toward the horizon but I want it to be perfectly straight and also I wanted to be straight horizontally, so we're going to fix the perspective we're going to stand it up and we're going to fix the cricket nous of the image so here we are in camera all and incidentally this new features in light one five as well, so to do this we're going to grab we're not gonna grab anything we're going to come over here to the limbs corrections tab in the camera windows so let's give that guy click and if you forget what the icon is for any of these settings, just point your mouse to the button and take your hand off the mouse be still for a moment and those little yellow told tips will come up. So for this one we want tio uh do lends corrections because we're really fixing a correction or fixing something that went wrong in the camera here, the new controls right here and upright what you want to date first, though if you're working with the raw image is see these other little tabs right here profile in color we want to help photoshopped, do a little bit better or help camera robert to do a little bit better job fixing her perspective problems but making it go out and fitch the lynns profile for the lens that we used so to do that was click on profile and let's just turn on enable lin's profile correction that just helps to do a little bit better job and you saw a little bit of the distortion go away over here if you want to, you can also click the color tab and turn on remove chromatic aberration so by turning those two items on in their rate level in the linds correction panel in the developed module of light rain five to say no turning those two items on this helps put a shot do a little bit better job with what we're about to fix so now it's come back over to manual and depending about you want but upon what you want to do click one of these buttons tio fix the distortion so if you click auto it's gonna apply balance perspective corrections it's going to fix it horizontally vertically and forward backward so let's just give that a click and see what happens not too shabby her so let's go ahead and turn that one off and let's just keep trotting through the list of buttons here if you only want to use it for straightening horizontally than you would click this button right here in the middle so now are it's straight horizontally but our perspective is still off so let's turn that off if you want tio level it horizontally and vertically then you would click this button right here so now our columns should be straight vertically and are the horizontal lines should be straight as well but we still have perspective problems so let's go ahead and turn that off and the one on the far right is going to do everything for you and I like to look at that one better than the other one so it just depends if you've got any people in your image, you may need to come down here and fine tune the transformations with some of these sliders because sometimes when you fixed perspective people's faces can get a little walkie job and that's really really creepy and you don't want that to happen so that's the new upright feature so if you've got any of those kind of problems going on, isn't it definitely easier to fix that in camera eight's new upright feature and again that lives in the limbs correction panel of camera raw so we can go ahead and say done or open image there we go I double clicked toe open the camera filter so we didn't actually do that and um but a shot delicious to close it and do it one more time so this time I'm gonna go ahead and click default, which should actually maybe have to go over to the lindsay operation panel we're going to zero out all my changes, so I went to the panel that I made the change and I'm going to use the little fly out mean even camera wrong and we're going to choose kamerad default so we get back to our original image and now let's open it up and photoshopped. So let's say this was a j pegs we didn't automatically open in camera a prime example of how you would use the new camera raw filter so here we are in photo shop now let's go up to the filter menu choose convert for smart filters go back it to the filter menu since camera filter was the last filter iran I could press commander control f but this is where it lives in the filter menu here and now when it opens, we can go straight over to that lens correction panel and we can do the same thing, so since we try to through all these buttons before and we know that we like the look that we get from the full correction so we can just give that button to click and now let me click ok, we're back and photo shop and our edits were applied as a smart filter, so that is super super handy one more thing on camera raw and then we'll take a question or two on it, so this is a raw file, so when I double click it, it automatically is going to open camera but let's just go ahead until photoshopped to open the image okay, so now will come back and start filter menu cheese convert for smart filters back into the filter miniatures camera and this one. This new feature is actually tags along with a spot removal brush and camera, which is great for fixing spot so we can see right here on this image of the pyramids of giza that I shot. I've got a dreaded sensor spot right here, so I've got dust on my sensor so cameras a great place to fix that kind of thing solves the make out a little bit now look at groups too much now looking at the sky, I see well another sensor spot I don't see anything else that doesn't mean they're not they're one of the great new features a camera is the ability to turn on a little check box called visualize spot in its amazing so let's, go ahead and have a go at that. So at the top of the camera window, let's, click to activate the spot removal tool. When you do that, this little panel is going to change over here on the right hand side, you'll notice a new option in camera eight called visualize spots. This new option is also in light room five if you turn that on, you get what looks to be a negative view of your image, so basically went high contrast and there's a little slider over here on the right hand side, someone zoom out a little bit more ease and those in controls down here. One thing that aggravates me to know any cameras, how you can't die, elin specific zoom levels. So remember in the image how we could really only see these two center spots. Look how many there are, I see one, two, three, maybe four, five, six, seven, eight and then if I use my space part and move around that I've been another big honking went over here on the right that I never in a million years would have seen those spot so this is the new feature in the spot healing brush not only can you click and drag with a spot healing rush now on camera and light rain couldn't do that before, but by turning on this visualize spots checkbox, then you can use this little slider and if you pump it all the way to the right like I have here, it illuminates any spots that you may not be seeing in your image. So I think by default this little slider is set about this position, but I'm not seeing any more spots and just to make sure let's drag it up, drag it rightward and as I do, you can see more and more spot starts illuminate so there's the one there that we can see there's one there there's one up here and there's one appear so of course you're nice question is going to be well, lisa, show us how to fix the darn things so all you had to do to fix in this single click on them. I'm using a keyboard shortcut to adjust my brush size right bracket k goes up left bracket, he goes down and you just want to make your brush cursor, which is the blue and white dotted thing we just want to make it a hair bigger than the spot you're trying to fix and it's just a click at a single clicked on it, so the red and why dot it's circle tells you the area that was fixed the green and white dotted circle tells you the area that camera used to fix it, ok? If it repeated an element, let's, say, well, that wasn't the primo place to use as a source for the the cloning, if you will, copying, pasting and smoothing around to make it look real, then you can click and drag in that green circle to make camera raw. Use another part of the image for the fix, so it's just super, super easy when I'm doing this in camera, raul, I like to keep because I'm right handed, so I keep my right hand on the mouse, and I keep my a two fingers on those bracket key so that I think quickly go up and down in brush size, well, moving around with my mouse, and you can get pretty fast at that. I highly recommend that unless you're charging by the hour and then take his much time as you want, when I say stuff like that, I'm mostly teasing so really quickly here in camera, we could go through and eradicate, eradicate all of those nasty spots that were so helpfully eliminated by the new visualize spots checkbox in camera eight k, so now we can click ok, and here we are back in photo shop in all of those nasty little spots are gone, so that is incredibly helpful. So on that note seem, I have any questions on some of the things we went over in the camera all filter clarity in camera you said you like to use it to, like, maybe increase sort of contrast, you look, do you ever slighted down if you're working maybe with skin tones or anything like that? Sometimes when I when I'm working on portrait, I tend not to use very much clarity, but when you're working on any kinds of architectural images or ruins or things that you really want to give a nice contrast boost teeth and clarity is really, really amazing, but I do to mr away from it non portrait, but if it could be nice to add a little bit of clarity to really make hair stand out and then when you pop back into so if you open camera as a filter on a portrait, add a little clarity to like accentuate clothes or hair jewelry. And then you could use thie mask that comes along with using smart filters to hide the clarity from the facial area, but you'd never wholesale like reduced clarity, but I would like you would never like just reduced the clarity. What we would be using the clarity. So, for example, if he wanted to hide the clarity, and he wanted to use clarity, just two. A show off hair or some other kind of aspect of her portrait than you could hide that adjustment using the layer mass just from the face area, so I wouldn't use clarity. You have to be careful on skin cause. It'll really eliminate pores and things like that.
