So we're going to look at a change in photo shop cc, which is the ability to run the new newish numancia six field iris until shift blur filters as smart objects we'll go and open up a couple images, so this particular image, uh, was not shot with that shallow of adept the field. This is the original image, but this is what we were able to create using the iris blur filter so let's, take a look at how to do that. I'll go and turn off the layer that I created for you, so activate those layers and your layers panel and she's filter convert for smart layers filter or smart filters rather filter. Now we're going talk down to the blur category, and we're going to use iris blur. I don't usually use phil bar because it doesn't have as many controls is iris blur in my opinion, it doesn't create as realistic of a blur and less a realistic I mean what you might actually get in camera, so we're in chiu's, iris blur, and we've got a lot of really nice on image controls here. d c s six it's probably one of the most useful things in the cia six upgrade, but that was a big upgrade that we made a lot of changes for that particular revision so here automatically on our image put a shot places all of these on image controls you can use these controls or you can use the slider over here I like using the on image control so let's scoot overseeing see the whole thing we've got several things going on here first of all this little circle in the center is a pin and as I have mouse over it or point my cursor at it you can see my cursor turns into a little push pin that's how you move the blur area or the focus area rather around on your image so I want the center of that working to be in focus so I'm gonna put the pin right in the center of it because this area underneath the pan and to these white dots is going to be in focus solves the amount just a hair the's four white circles or dots here let you control how wide the area focuses and you can use them to really tighten that down so that only a little bit of the images in focus so now this part right here is all in focus of the area underneath a pin all the way out to these four white circles or dots the area outside of these four white dots is getting slightly blurry okay, so this is a blur transition areas the area between these dots in the outline of the blur shape anything outside of the blur shape in this area is fully blurred, so we've got fully blurred a little bit blurred, not blurry it all basically so you just click and drive these guys around until you get exactly what you want. Lisa if I was trying to create a little bit more of a three d perspective there is it possible to move the center point of that center circle to a different area and have it, you know, a little bit more in three d space are you talking about these know this the center circle, moving it to a different point within that larger outer circle know so the pin always stays within the center. Yeah, ok, but you can change the shape of the blur and you can rotate the blur shape as well, so to do that we can change the size it so as I'm mousing around to the different little white handles on that blur shave, you can see how my cursor changes from curved arrows two straight arrows. So at any of those points I can click and drag outward to make that blur shaped larger or click and drag inward to make it smaller. I can position my cursor just a little bit outside of those handles on the blur shape and when my cursor turns into a curved arrow that I can use that to rotate the blur around so you can get all kinds of different shapes and sizes now this other little handle that we're seeing appear on the blur shape itself let's he change the shape of it so with these little bitty white handles I mean how how can you different different e eight between the little bitty white handles in a slightly larger why handles and then we got the square white handle so right here with the little bitty white handles active, you could just tell that I'm basically changing it from an ellipse tio a circle. However, if we grab this white square handle, we can change the ellipse to around a rectangle so photographers really love the irish floor because they can find tune this blurs shape to really be accurate or to match what you might get in camera if you were doing this for real that's why photographers love it I respond more than fieldwork is you don't have any of these outer controls in filled lor you just have a pin and then you've got the transition points that's it so that's why I like this one a lot let's talk about one more control that's here and that is this black and white ring that's outside of the pin so this is your blur strength control if you click and drag in a circular motion that's the hardest thing to remember about this one if you click and drag either counterclockwise or clockwise, and you're changing the blur strength so more white on that blur ring means amore increased blur, less white, more black driving in a circular motion means less of a blur and it's, you don't even really have to remember that, because this handy rich cursor overlay comes up, you tell exactly what your blur strength is. So now let's, zoom out a little bit more and see what we've got so let's say we like that. Now, the next thing I'd like to do is I'd like to make some of the highlights in the blurry area. This part outside of the blur shape, I'd like to make them sparkle, so we're going to add a bucket effect, and the way you do that is you use the controls that surely you can see right here in the blur effects panel. Doesn't everybody see those controls here in the blur effects can aren't they lovely nice, so we'll use thie, obviously visible turn on boca check box and the book a strength slider that all of you all I know can see right here. This is a bug in the program it's the weirdest thing those controls just sporadically show up or they won't show up when you enter this filter to get them to show up, just click on the tab so really? What was going on here is that sometimes it opens in a collapsed manner, but you won't necessarily see that line down there. She won't know that it's collapsed, and sometimes they're just not there at all like they were a second ago. So if you don't see anything, just click that tab in those controls will show up, so they really should show up just automatically it's very, very strange anyway, so I usually leave the boca checkbox turned on, but I leave the light focus slider set to zero you think of this as an amount slider right here, so there's going to be no book effect if that's set to zero. So as we click and drag that slider to the right, watch the highlights at the toward the bottom right of the image. See how they're starting to get that nice shaped where they look like speculate highlights so that's what the book effect does if I want to introduce a little color into those areas, all zuman and then press and hold the space bar tio move up, move around within my image problems and in so here you can see the difference between boki off and broke it on these highlights are now being pushed more towards white. So what I can do is bring it, bring back some of the color into those speculator highlights by clicking and drag in the book of color slider to the right, and as I do that, you can see that I'm introducing a little bit more color into those areas now which highlights are being affected by these controls? That's what the light range bar is all about right here. So this little bar is telling you that on lee, the highlights that fall between these two sliders in that range of brightness are being affected. So if I wanted to narrow that, I would click and drag the shadow slider to the right and now see how I lost all my speculator highlights there that happened because I don't have really anything in that upper upper upper range of highlights I really don't have in the blurry area. I don't have any pixels that are that level of brightness, so that's, why we're not seeing any of those speculate highlights anymore. But as I increase the range that the book effect is having an effect on, then we start to see some of those areas. Now, of course you're going to say, but we say you had highlights like that up here in this area, yes, I do, but like you know now, because I just said it. These areas are not affected by the book of controls, its on lee what's outside of that blur shape, or sometimes if something falls in this slightly blurry transition area right here, then you'll start to see them appear so that's. How you confined team those boca controls now there is a high quality checkbox up here if we give that a click photo shops that's going to think a little bit more about more accurately displaying the image on our screen that's all that high quality is about it's, not that it's going to do a better job when she click. Ok, this is just talking about the screen draw that's currently on screen this filter in photo shop cease see our all of the blur gallery filters really got improved quite a bit because they now take advantage of your video cards processing power. So through a technology called open seal so basically let's photoshopped, tap into that cards power whenever it wants for extra brain cycles, so you'll find that when you use field iris until shift in photo shop, see, see that your screen can draw the effects of the blur a lot faster than it did before, which is really nice, so we can click ok and it gets applied to our image, just like we've been doing. All day long so that's new and photo shops sisi so the ability to use the blur filters on a smart object so here's one more example of that so here's our before and here's our after so go ahead and click to turn this layer into a smart object go back into the filter menu blur iris blur and we do the exact same thing so we can reposition our pin to control which part of the image is blurring which isn't and we can make our blurs shape a lot larger and click the's slightly larger white handles she control how why that transition point is between what's in focus and what's not in focus and play with the book it controls if you'd like and then click ok, so it makes a really nice effect so here's our before and there's our after so a lot easier using those filters and it is to use what do we have before? We had limbs blur before we got these blur gallery filters so that was a way to do a nice salad at the field effect in post if you didn't get it in camera, you could do it here in photo shop but don't even bother with limbs blur anymore because these filters air so much easier to use and the on image controls are really quite intuitive, so let's take a look at how useful that still shit filter is so I've got a couple of images here this is a forum shot roman forum that I got a few weeks back and if I option or all click my bottomless layer here will give us a preview of our before and after so this is the original shot and that's what we're going to make so it's great for a miniature effect also if you notice I had these rude interlopers look at all these people here in my picture so rather than painstakingly removing them which I could if we blur them they're not as noticeable and so that makes for a slightly better vacation shot so we'll move back over sewing sierra whole image so let's go ahead and start from scratch so for this particular image I've got two layers of color correction layer with curves and the original soul it's shift click to activate both of those guys go to the filter menu convert for smart filters back it to the filter menu to the blur category two till shift again the ability to use these filters as smart objects or smart filters rather is new in photo shops sisi same kind of interface here we've got a pin that we can use to move the focus band around so here we've got a rectangular narrow band of focus and then we've got this area and this area which are our transition points between in focus and blurry and then anything out outside of the dotted lines is completely blurry same kind of on image controls we can use this circular blurring to increase or decrease the strength of the blurry member to drag in a circular motion. We can grab these white handles here to do two things, increase the width of the focus ban and also rotate the whole mass so you don't have to have a horizontal till shift effect it could be any angle you want it to be if you want to change, widen the area that's completely blurry and your image thing when you grab one of these dotted lines or dash lines rather to change that so basically it works in the same way so we can click ok same ways the philip wheeler filter so here's our before and here's our after so it blurs out the people just in every don't notice they're there draws your attention right to the center of this photo and almost makes it look a little miniature, which is kind of fun same thing on this one right here and you can see in this example file that you'll get when you purchase the course that we've got three different filters stacked up on a single smart object, so we've got a camera raul filter that I used for correcting the image so we'll toggle at off which pretty crappy before didn't it? And then we've got our blur gallery so I just did, uh, field to focus right here, everything else blurry, so turn that on and then last but not least, I did a darkened edge vignette with the lens correction filter so here's the before in the after on that so that just this image gives you an idea of how you could use all three filters to produce the effect that you want. And one more thing that you could do in the camera off older while you were there and that we could just do right now if we wanted tio doubleclick, any of those filters and it pops that right open and flu shot saying, hey, I may not be able to show you the effects of all these other filters why you're messing around with this other filter, so don't freak out if I turned them off. It doesn't mean you're deleting them. So what can we do? Additionally, to this image, trot over to the lens correction panel of the camera. Raul filter right and let's level this baby out there we go now or straight click ok, and we're straightened, so just giving you an idea of how you can stack up filters to take the image that you have and turn it into the image that you want. Now let's look at one more thing until shift and that is the ability to apply it to video now this is brand new and photo shops sisi because in order to apply a filter to video and photo shop the video layer has to be a smart object if it's not a smart object guess how many frames the filter gets applied to you you know? So for the first frame it looked really good and then it won't so now that we can use till shift on a smart filter we can apply till shift two video so let's go ahead and do that I just popped open and dot imovie file that I downloaded from I stopped photo so let's activate the layer tried it to the filter menu convert for smart filters back it to the filter menu down to the blur category till shift now for this one let's mouse just outside of these larger white handles until my cursor turns into the curved arrow and I'm going to speak been focused band around till it's vertical and you can hold down the shift key and that will help you snap to perfect ninety degrees if you want that which is what we want in this case so now I'm on a wide in my band to focus a little bit by dragging those shift dragging those white handles out because I don't wanna rotate it so I'm shift dragging so now what we've got conferring a little bit little bit more what's going click ok and now the outer edges of our video is going to be blurry but as these boats move through the focus band it was kind of cool so I'll just grab the play head in the timeline and see a photo shop a let me script through it in that meat seems like a great effect that you could use in a time lapse video totally absolutely which is kind of what this is a little bit so that just gives you another idea of how you can use thes blur gallery filtering filters now that they will work as smart filters you can now use them on video you could not use them on video and see a six jimmy in virginia had actually asked earlier when you were talking about vanishing point he asked if if you could use that to simulate a tilt shift effect but now that we have the television filter it's like reading people's minds again why would you want tio? I'm sure you do that if you want tio you're charged about our go for it and the tilt of filter that's just in cc correct not until just shelter came along and see a six okay but none of those the three filters there I'll pop up in another image so we can look at him causing blur there we go I can't get into the filter menu unless you have an image open, so filter blur. These three filters right here, were new and see a six, but they did not work with smart filters. Got so well you could use them on duplicate layer. Still, images in c s six. You could not use them on video because he used a filter on a video that's, not a smart object. It applies to one frame.
