Working with InDesign Elements Part 2

I'm going to just start right in with working with some paths so I don't know if anybody's is illustrator at all nor usedto drawing some past you're probably used to the pen tool if you've been in photo shop there's the pen tal we have the penta land in design and we can create what's called vector graphics in design, so I'm gonna step back to celebrate talk about vector versus raster and for those of you working photo shop, you're probably working with raster a lot, although you khun make vector objects in photo shop is well, but basically we don't think of photo shop we think of raster and it's created from dots and then we have the vector that's what illustrator excels that and basically things like you know you make a shape, you make a logo and make line something like that and when you blow it up in in designer, when you put it blowed up an illustrator, you don't lose any resolution there's no lack of resolution and that's because it's built with vectors or mathematically and mayb...

e there is a little bit of magic in today's session because that's kind of magic, it just doesn't matter how big you make it it just keeps recreating a mathematically and it's beautiful so indesign understands all those vectors, so we made those shapes just now we're just using the shape frame to do it, the star was the actual vector lines that air there. We just don't have to draw it with a pen, tal, we just had a tool to create it for us. We do have the penta land in design, and it does some stuff it's not nearly as robust is illustrator like to joke that otherwise you wouldn't buy illustrator if you could do everything it in design, but the great thing is in design understands everything. It just doesn't have the tools to create it, but sometimes you do need to use the pen tool to create something I create simple shapes. If I just want a squiggle shape or something, I'm not going to go all the way to illustrator to create one and place it in design and work with it that way, I'm going to create it in illustrator I mean in the design, or it can create it in illustrator and bring it into and design as well. We're going to do that just a little while, too, but I'm gonna work the pen tool just to work with some simple shapes. So we have this tool over here. It's, a little pen tool if I click and hold on that I have some other pencils options underneath it well to start with the regular old pen tool and we're just going to a little bit of simple drawing just like I say I do this for quick objects when I needed it and design, so if I just click on the page with the pencil, I get a point and if I click again I get another point and I also get a segment that connects the two points, so remind everybody of math class this is right, you know, points and segments of the shortest point between two two points the shortest distance, right? So I'm just gonna keep clicking and I'm creating lines between the points those are what's called corner points those are hard corner points, so as I draw, it creates this hard corner but maybe I want something a little smoother little curved so if I click and hold, I draw out these direction lines and what it's doing is it's changing the size and the angle of that arc that's there that's like a change out how big the ark is or what the angle is so I could draw with it that way and then if I want to continue on and drug and I can click and hold and I get the next arch that's there, if I want to create a hard corner point from their reverse the direction I just come back and click on the center item here and click that one handle goes away, which means the direction just changed, but I can come back out here and they want to come back to the beginning. I get a little circle on the edge of my pen tool I know it's kind of hard to see kind of small, but that means I'm going to close up that shape. I'm going to create a shape and close it, so when I do that I know have a frame, and this frame is exactly the frame with the same kind of frame that when we made drew the square in the circle in the polygon, there was there, I'm going to grab the selection tool because, again, that's, what I use when I'm working with the actual container, gonna grab that and move that, and now I have that actual object as a frame. The cool thing is I could do the same thing I did before I could come up to the object menu and shoes content until it hits a text frame orographic frame, maybe it's graphic frame I'm going to put a picture in or a text frame I can now flow text into that I can use our keyboard shortcut of f two for placeholder text, and I can fill it with text is, well gonna undo that I really don't want that there, but I have this shape that's actually here and when I selected you know it's all I could do basically with it is selected move it, I can change the shape and the size of it, but I can't actually change the paths and that's because I'm using the selection tool and that's the container if I want to get to the content the content of this path are actually the points and the segments so if I use the direct selection tool I now have access to those points I am going to back and changes object and take off the content and tell it it's on a signed again not a text frame otherwise they just gave us those extra squares those were kind of confusing, so I used the direct selection tool so actually can get access to the points and the segments themselves. Now it's a little tricky if I just grab it, start moving it it wants to move it as a whole the whole object together. So sometimes what I do is select off just click off and then I'll roll over the shape and click on this actual point and I can move where that point sits so I can start moving those items so if I drew them wrong I could move them around to make some changes to him. I also can convert them from one type of point to another maybe I decided I wanted this to be curved at the top. I can come over to the pen tool in one of the secret tools underneath is convert direction point tool to something else. So when I convert a hard corner point, I can click and drag and it changes it to the smooth curve. Point eight the same thing to one of the smooth curves. I could just click and becomes the hard corner point. I can also use thie, add or delete anchor point tool. So if I decide I needed more anchor points along here, I want to make a few more curves or I want to make a former jag is whatever it is I want to do. I could just come in here. And if I get close, you noticed the penn cruiser has a little plus next to it, and I could just click and add more points, have more points to work with, or I can use the delete anchor point tool and do the same thing on points that exist and delete ones that are already here. You know, it's kind of flattening it out now because I'm deleting those points. The cool thing is about the pen tool if I just used the pen tool. It's smart enough to know that if I roll over an existing point it changes to a minus so far roll over when it says, oh, you've already got one there maybe you want to delete that or if I roll over segment this is over, you might want to add one so I don't even have to use the plus and minus tools if I don't want to I use that if I have a whole lot of points all near each other because sometimes are not very accurate I might get the wrong one so I'll use the specific one if I need to, but otherwise I just use the pen tool and it's smart enough to know if you're near one, you might want to delete it if there isn't one there, you might want to add it that makes sense everybody for the pentacle that's how we draw with the pen tool and again, we could do things like draw here if I click here and I'm going to click and hold them actually got a hold on the shift key and what my hold on the shift key I'm constraining it to forty five degree angles, so I know that when I click here even though if I'm not exactly straight across from this line by holding the shift key I will get a straight line someone click and hold and it was going to drag down and we do the same things to holding down the shift key and my click and drag down and I'm gonna do the same thing here. Now, if I want to make sure I got a nice wave pattern, I probably would have done guides, so I knew how far over to do it and also how far down to drag I was just doing it visually, but when I let go, I just have this nice squiggle. So it's, just this little icahn or this little line that I wanted to create and the reason I want to do that as I want to put some text on that particular shape that's there. So I just have this line and I'm going to grab the type tool, and then I'm going to choose the type on a path tool, right? So instead of coming into a text frame and creating a text frame, this is acting as my text friend because I've chosen type on a path when I roll over. This frame was if I could get us, you can see it get a little plus icon that shows up there it's again, teeny tiny let's zoom in on that a little bit so you can see it happening there so the little plus tools here I can just click on this frame. And around this shape, and now it automatically says, oh, you want to put text cause you're using the type on a path tool and there's my cursor, I could use our keyboard shortcut to fill a placeholder text, and it throws that text along that particular curve that's there zoom back out so I can actually see all my tools anonymity is the direct selection tool again, and I want to just come over here and d select off of it, and I confined to the points I can select on here, and I can change the handles so I could move or that sits just change the angle that we have there in the text is changing with it and, you know, I have this little plus when I talk about that later, it means there's more to this story, and it doesn't fit on the shape that I have that so I could just dragged that out, so gonna have that shape and I'm gonna zoom in a little bit more, and the one thing you notice is that I have that black line went running underneath there. I don't really like that, but it's, when I created the line, I had a stroke of one point stroke, so I could actually see the line, but I want to get rid of it. So one of things we're going to talk about just a minute anyway it's strokes and fills, but what I want to do is just come over here to this panel that's over here and I have this little black outline everybody could see it's over here, I have his black outline, and that shows me what the stroke is for that line and the stroke is a black stroke I'm just going to come down here and I'm going to choose apply none and again, we're talking about colors and strokes and fills a just little while but there's an easy way to do that I want to say not I want that line to go away it's when I do that, I actually select the item first and then click none that line itself goes away it's still there, and when I choose the direct selection tool and click, I can still see the points and I could still work with them. It just I didn't have to actually, um I didn't have to actually see the line that's there it's not printing, but I still have it there you can still play with it and make it do what I needed to do so makes sense the pens and paths the same thing would happen even if I wanted to create this square, I could totally create a square with the pencil, if I wanted to it's not going to be very good, but I considered click on that shape. Hold on the shift key, so I constrain it to forty five degree angles and click and click and click on I did pretty well sometimes the bottoms a little off, I don't usually hit it so perfectly so there you go, but they're basically the same thing. They look exactly the same. If I give me two a stroke, they both look like squares and they're fine. Just one had a tool to create it. One of them was me actually creating it. It's pretty impossible to create a circle, though I can tell you that. But what I can do is I can take this frame that I created with the frame tool and I could modify the points on that as well. I can add points, so what I could do is use the direct selection tool, and when I do that now my handles change to this is for corner points. That means now it's ready for me to actually manipulate it. So I just grabbed this on. I can just move the frame in that way I can add points just like we did before coming here, just add a few extra points. And then I can even do things like convert the directions to of having the sharp one. I can come in here and make a curve point out of that and out of that, if I want to, I said, now I have that frame, it started out as a square, and I just manipulated the points to make that happen. And again this image, I can fill it or this frame I can fill with an image or text, so compare under content, tell it it's a text frame, or I can come down here and tell it it's. A graphic frame suddenly has an x in their earliest part of the knicks, and it says, ok, she's, ready to drop a graphic inside there. So that's, the pentacle there's, actually a site that used to be out called zen of the pen dot, or ge and I don't think it's end of the pen dot or getting more, but I think if you look up his end of the pen search engine, it will actually still come up. But he has tons of tips and tricks on how to create different pen effects, and they work a great and in design or illustrator, or even photoshopped, so check that out if you want, so it's actually put some graphics in her now the way created some frames and we've manipulated our frames were actually put something on the page where to put some graphics in there so when we're placing stuff and in design it doesn't matter if it's a graphic if it's you know an illustrator graphic or a photoshopped image or a pdf or text we use one command we use the place command that's up under the file menu it's file place we're going to come in here we're gonna actually choose some different items to look at what's just coming here to where we have some graphics here and I just want to choose an image any images fine we're just gonna place one in here that will go ahead and we'll uh we'll start with this one it was actually my cat so you know you gotta have your cat pictures in here she's got her tongue sticking out it's my favorite one she does that a lot so I have this graphic and actually it's really weird it's kind of got this white frame on it I think it came from because it came from my iphone it just put these weird frames on some of my images so I'm just gonna place that there and actually maybe we'll do another one just so that doesn't have that white frame because that's going to cause us a little bit of trouble so I'm not sure why some of them have that let's actually grab let's take joseph the lincoln memorial has the same thing there we go that it's an iphone one it just keeps giving me those strange, strange ones I know we don't have it on these let's say we have some kind of nature picture excellent. So when I did place and I brought it in I get this loaded cursor, right? So I just have this cursor sitting here and has a little thumbnail of the image that I'm placing and I have a couple different options for placing this image one of them as I can just click when I do that it's going to place it full at the full size on the page so just going place it right where I clicked I'm gonna undo that was going to do command dizzy or control z to get backto my loaded cursor. The other option I have is to click and drag just like we were drawing a shape earlier. But now I'm sure doing it to accommodate this picture and if you notice it's keeping it proportional to the actual image that's in there so I could just place that decide what size I wanted at and let go and it's going to fill it however I have my options set up for filling, all right, I'll show you what that means in just a second so and undo that as well so if I am clicking and dragging let's say, I want a tall picture frame even though I know it's a wide picture, but I want to talk picture frame I can hold on my shift key, and normally shift keeps the proportions will shift in this case takes away the proportions, so now I'm doing a tall picture frame even though I'm still trying to fit in a wide picture holding down the shift key, and I'm gonna let go of that and it filled it nicely, but it cropped it out. Now what you see might be something else entirely different, and I'm going to show you why that might be and close this document is going to change a preference and again, preferences take effect if you have no document opened its for all new documents from there, I'm gonna go under the object menu and come down to fitting, and I'm going to come down to frame fitting options when I do that. I have some different options here fitting if I tell it fitting none, I'm going to leave it fitting that because that's probably what you guys were saying that's, the default setting that's here, so it's a fitting none were going come back and change that again as well. But that's what you're probably going to see so when I placed that same picture so I'm doing file place gonna grab that same picture hopefully that same one and it's a different one that's right? Still a wide picture we're gonna start dragging that out and hold down the shift key so I get a tall image and let go that's probably what you're seeing, you're seeing the tall frame, but you're seeing the wide picture fit the whole picture in there because by default there's no friend fitting options and it wants to cram the whole picture in there now at least it does it proportionally, so looks good, but the whole point of me drawing out that big tall frame was that's the size frame I wanted, and I wanted the image to take up that so I can change that on an object by object basis in this case, I'll take this image, go up under the object menu and go back to that fitting menu and then tell it I've got a couple different things I can fill the frame proportionally, which is what it was doing a minute to go by the way this was set up and it was filling it, keeping a proportionate and it came and it filled in both directions so you didn't see any white space around I can also fit the frame to the content well, that kind of defeats the purpose that's going to make a wide frame and that would have been the same as if I just clicked I would have filled the frame to the content I can also fit the content to the frame if I do that it fits it just fine, but it stretches it we don't want to do that we're going to undo that and go back into the fitting menu and I want to fill the frame proportionally so what that does is it fills it up every direction, but it crops it as it needs to do that and how I can tell it's cropped obviously because I don't see the whole thing and I know that was there, but if I didn't I could see exactly how cropped it wass I can use the direct selection tool if I want and select it once and come over and click the image you see when I roll over it I get the outline that's the size of the image that's there when I click it and hold on it I can actually see the ghosted image and I can see where that image is and I can move that around and so that's how I can crop it in there make sure he's set up exactly how I want it when he fills it proportionally because otherwise it's going to crop it how it needs to and if we look go back into those settings that we set up under the fitting menu in the frame fitting options we come under there it's a still frame proportionally and this little diagram that's here shows me how that's filling its feeling from the center and if you're used to photo shop used to when you do the canvas settings you know how it it kind of sets up so but I could tell it to crop it from the upper left every time if I know that that's where most of my images the chunk of my images in the upper left hand corner I would choose that but for the most part when I do feel frame proportionally I probably wanted to go from the center and push everything else outward cancel that zoom out of that so that's how we place an image that's in here so again we can grab this by the selection tool and again this election tools for working at the frame we're going to play with some other options in just a second as well, but I won't go back and repeat that we do file place come back and choose an image and I can either click undo or I could click and drag to the exact size I want which is great if let's say we had some guides set up already we know we need to actually have them set up here and here and doesn't matter how tall it ends up being but I can click and drag out to the size of that guide and let go and I know it's going to fill nicely as well or I can click and drag it's actually undo that click and drag and hold on my shift key and I know I'm going to draw it really tall but to the size of that with and then it's going crop it how I needed to and again I have it set up to just fill the frame I need to come back until it on this object I wanted to fill the frame proportionally so fills it out all right so that I can choose that directs election tool and manipulated but here's the thing I don't have to actually hit the direct selection tool because what happens when I hit the direct selection tool once it gives me those four corners that we just saw a little while ago that says oh you must want to manipulate the actual lines that make up that frame and start playing like we do he added points and paths so I say no I don't want to do that I want to click one more time where I'm actually working with the content of that frame the actual content that's inside there and that's the image so that's kind of a pain to have to click it that many times so they made a change in last version that it kind of is smart, even though I have my selection tool when I get near the center, what I should see and I'm going to actually turn this on it's under the view menu under extras is the content grabber show the content grabber, and when I roll over it, I get this what I call the translucent bagel, right? It comes up here, it just shows up, and when I get towards the center, it turns to a hand. So the nice thing is I can keep this one tool, and when I click, I'm grabbing the frame, but when I hit that with the content tool and click it, I'm suddenly grabbing the content, so basically switched to the direct selection tool for me without actually selecting the tool. So that's kind of nice, because then I could just click the edge, do something with the frame like move it clicking, we would just like we did earlier, we move the square on ly now there's actual image in it, so I can click pretty much anywhere as long as I don't hit the center because once I hit the center and do that oops, I just moved the image out of the frame that makes sense, everybody how that works, ok, so I'm going to move the remove the guides that air there just so that they're kind of in my way. I don't accidentally grabbed him, so when I'm grabbing them, I'm going toe take this image and I want to actually change the frame. I like the size of the image, but the frame is not right, so I'm using this election tool and I'm going to just grab the edge and move it down. All right? So now the image is staying where I wanted to, but I'm cropping it a little bit, all right? So if I click and hold for a second, I get the actual grade back version of it so I can see that, and if I want to move the image again, I can either use the direct selection tool or I can use the content grabber some people don't like it there's a lot of hate for the content grabber. I don't know why, but there is, and then I can either move the image within here or wait a second and actually see it or I can grab the image handle here and I can start changing where the image is sitting here now I squished it down, I didn't hold down the shift key was goingto squish it down like that, we don't really want to do that, we want to hold down the shift key so hold the shift key and maybe I just want to make it a little bit smaller so I can move the image with selection directs election tool or the content grabber and that frame itself with the selection tool now what if I decide I really like the way this looks I'm going to frame this up a little bit better how I like it so we look at that and I say ok, I like that but I want the whole thing to be bigger the frame and the image together so what I need to do is select the item and hold down the command chiana mac or the control chiana pc and that will move the image in the frame together but I also have to hold the shift key if I'd like to keep it all proportionate some holding on both of those another bring a friend shortcut and if I click and hold for a second you might not have to depending on your settings I actually can see it as I'm dragging it larger that makes sense the whole two different tools and the clicking whether you're working on the frame or you're working with the graphic itself and remember the shift tool keeps everything nice and proportionate so when you're moving a frame and you're sizing it together, hold down the command and shift or the control and shift and drag that makes sense okay cool all right let's drag this down a little bit and get him back in the window here so let's talk about some of the images that we placed might create a new page understood it keyboard shortcut it's just command shift pierre control shift pee on a pc creates a new page we're going to go into multi pages later but I just wanted a new fresh pager to look at and we'll talk about the different types of graphics that we can place we can place a lot of different things in in design if we're going to print we probably want to work with native photo files and native illustrator files if those air the files we have so few guys is photographers are working and photoshopped files you know you can't place a raw file in and design but you could take the unfortunate file that you create bless you and you can put that in there you can place those in there and actually that's what adobe recommends is placing native files in there and the reason for that is that it has access to all the layers and all the information that you have in a photo shop file and when we place images in here and we're going to talk about links in a little while we place an image or something and photoshopped or in and design from photo shop we're not actually putting that whole massive photo in the indesign file we're just putting a link we're putting a little bookmark that says, hey, this is where it's sitting on your hard drive and we're putting it in here, but what it does is it keeps track of that file, and so when we go toe out, put it whether it's two pdf for print or whatever we're doing it's going to grab all that information from the photo file and wedge it into that final file so that I think is you're not working with these massively bloated files you're not trying to fit, you know, fifteen hundred, you know, twenty four hundred d p I photos in your design file and manage that if you change the original photo shop document, is it it will change that we're going to actually want to that they were going to go out and make some changes to in seattle? How that works out that round tripping works with that? Absolutely so yes, oh, when we put files in or we want to stick with the native files if we haven't. So if we have ps defiles that's, we want you'll notice that most of my files are actually jay payne files I do have ah psd file here somewhere and again, I'll have to grab that let's come in here and grab from these extra files I should have him in here and I have one that's here that's a psd file says basically what you want to do is you want to work with the psd falls if you have a now he's still people if you get, you know stock photography it's probably in a jpeg format already if you have the j peg format, you can place a jpeg format in here if you're going to open it and photo shop and do anything to it, I always tell people switch it to a psd file because if you got you guys probably know, a lot of designers don't know that every time we open and save a j peg, it gets rid of more information, you know it dumbs it down a little bit, it says, oh you're saving is a j peg let's get rid of this information we don't need and every time you save it is a j peg is going to save it save it down so I used like they're in primarily it like to say a living light room and I vacation and photo shop so all of the files that I worked with her rock I very rarely send out j pegs unless I'm sending it out to be printed or sending it out to a client do I need to create a j peg and keep it there basically forever wherever it is or is a directly out of light rumor I can't you can't save a light room file you can't place alight on file in and in design as far as I know, so I would say that is a j peg because you would need that for print, so I guess my question is more because you're creating a link from where it is. Do I have to keep that link their forever's? Yes, and we're gonna talk about what happens and where those images sit, and then when we go to print, we have to have all of that together in the same place. So yes, if you save it as a j peg, you have to make sure you keep coming track where that j peg is, and the indesign gives you some nice tools, fat from keeping it together, and when you go to send it, it can be wherever it is on your hard drive, when you go to send it, it has a wayto package everything up and grab it from wherever it is, as long as it's still sitting in the same place it was, and again, when we talk about links, well, we'll talk about how to keep track of all of those, but, yeah, I always tell people that if they're working on something else and they can keep in the native released native adobe, then adobe files like the psd files and files keep it that way, because then it has access to all that information that's they're so if you have a j peg, though, let's say you have a j peg and all you're going to do is place it in design, then there's no need to go make it a psd file. It totally will take a j peg. I still people, if they don't do anything to win photoshopped to save it as a photo file first, so that you're not getting that lawsuit compression that's happening. So anyway, we can place them. They actually recommend placing the native files that are in there, and I'm gonna show you some tricks that we can do we place in some of the access it has to that file and the reason for keeping it a psd. This may be a rookie question, but is a gps file? A native file to gps is not. And actually, if you have gps is that's fine, if that's what you already have, but I wouldn't save it. In the old days, we had to save it as a mps file, because a lot of things that were there, like the transparency and the duo tones and things like that, could not be read you couldn't read a native photo file in the old days of page layout and so if you have one that's fine just there's no need to save a tps in fact, I tell people not to because you might save it with certainty ps settings that I don't really want and you may have gotten rid of information and I have just locked me out of that information but keeping that native photo file I have access to absolutely everything that's in that file, so because because it's native photo shop its native adobe it actually communicates with the two the two programs were communicating about the file, so but if you have one it's fine and I have a lot of j pegs that air there, I just if I'm going to do anything to them and photo shop, I don't want to keep opening a j peg and saving that j peg, so I want to make sure that I save it as a psd file and work with it from that point on so and that that being said there's a lot of different file for months you can place in in design as well, but try and keep it native if you can so yes, so we'll just place a native psd file, which is what I had here let's get back to where I was here have this ps defile and I can turn show import options on if I want there's not really a lot of import options that I choose when I'm working with images, it will just use your last chosen options if you don't have that selected, but it might say things like layers and things like that, so I can actually work with layers inside a layered, photoshopped file and actually don't have layers in this one. So I'm going to create another one here, and I'm going to grab this one, and I have show import options turned on coming here open, and if you notice, I can see all the layers that are inside this particular file so I can turn on and off layers in a layered, photoshopped file when I imported into in design that's one of the reasons that we want to work with that is that we want to be able to get access to all those specific layers that air there. Usually, if I don't have layers, I would see, like image in color, and if you can see there's not really much, we can choose from in that particular image, so when I'm bringing in images, I don't really worry about that too much we'll play with layers in just a second as well, so when I bring in an image file place the other thing I want to make sure that I usually have turned off least myself is replaced selected item so if you have a frame selected, you forgot you've had its elected, you go to place something and your pay you know your you've got it select on page thirteen and you're on page two and you have replace selected item and you grab a picture, it will wedge that picture into whatever frame you have selected, and sometimes you'll be sitting there waiting for your image to appear, and it hasn't because I wouldn't put it in page thirteen, so you have to kind of keep that in mind the soul from me just because I know I am I'm going leave things selected and wander away I d select the replace selected item I don't want to do that. The nice thing is, if I wanted it to go into something specific, I always can tell it to later, so actually let's draw a couple frames on the page will actually do our friend the the star here, and we'll also do another one if you notice that one is not a graphics frame, but I'm going to put a graphic in it anyway this one's a graphic frame and maybe I never put anything in that and it just sits there is a frame and I never put a graphic in there so some of the way other ways that I can bring graphics in whether or not I want to select them that maybe I have the selected item here and I go to place the graphic and let's, grab this file here and I don't have replaced selected item on and I get the loaded cursor, I think no, I really wanted it in that star. I just forgot to select that I can take this item and I can roll over the shape when I don't get the kind of rounded brackets you noticed that it kind of hit that, and when I click on that, it puts that image right inside that frame. Now I can work with that, just like I did before here's my translucent bagel gonna hold on the shift key, and I'm going toe just close this up, and now we have this image inside your I could click and hold on, I could move that image around and here's a little tip, you know, I want to make sure I drew my my frame exactly the size of the hydra, that star and I want to move it, so hold on the shift key, so I kind of don't get too jumpy trying to go up and down, so holding down the shift key moves things fairly smoothly across in the same direction I'm headed. Some let go, and now I have that in there. So even though I didn't tell it replace selected item, I could always at any time drag it on top. The other thing I can do is I can go out to my desktop he's in the f eleven key on the mac. I can come out here and find a file in here. Let's, go to my graphics file and let's open that same exact file. I can grab that file and start dragging it. This is a mac trip. If I do the command tab, I get back to my other application, jump back to in design, and I could drag it right on top of a specific frame that's there so I could drag it in that way. I can also just drag it in if I go out and do the same thing, dragged this guy command tab back to indesign and drop it somewhere on the page, I could do the same thing, all right, so there's a couple different ways that I can bring things in. The other way I could bring it in is something called bridge I'm not gonna open a bridge if you guys use photoshopped you're probably used to that but they have something that they introduced I believe in c s fivefive called many bridge so it's bridge you have to have bridge and has to be running but it kind of puts a little version of bridge inside your document so come in here and see if anything is even opening that looks really odd that this look exactly right let's launch it here and I can come in here and I could just see when bridge opens up and I can come and choose the different items that I have I just opened a bridge but also I couldn't do it right from within and design and seeing here I have no items in my computer let's come in here I don't know why it doesn't want to show me anything that's in here what's coming instructor waiting for bridge it's having a little trouble communicating back important with bridge and see if that comes up so let that run and but what it's doing is accessing bridge and it's bringing everything in so I will be able to see the files here and stop having to jump back and forth between bridge and in design it brings in a mini version of it here you have a question well I just I just tried it in golden nugget for you was that ah it'll do the same thing from light room for so if I pull one of my things out using the trick that you just showed me from light room we don't want to pull anything from light room in because that's copying and pasting we do not want to do that so yeah, you don't want to go into photoshopped or anything and selected and copy and pasted in because you don't have that link you've just grabbed it and you have severed the link that's between the two absolute so is there a way like your square that you have the clouds? Are you able to make that photo? I mean, how do you shrink that photo without changing your box size so that I select on it? And then I see the actual image itself that I'm going to hold down the shift key and dragging and actually probably this point because it's so far off the page I would probably come in here and hold on the option or the all key as well just to kind of get it moved out here so sometimes you know what I did is it so far off the page but yeah, I would hold the the direct selection tool or roll over it and show that content grabber and see the image itself the other thing I could do instead is aiken force it let's say I have this here and it was kind of big like that go back up into that object menu under the fitting menu I could tell it to fill the frame proportionally and now it'll fill it will snap it in there if you learn the keyboard struck that's for those is really clever way to get it to cram it in there really quickly all right so we had some of the other ways we can do it I am my bridges here I have to actually just find where is on my desktop go in design and my tutorials on my extra graphics or down here should probably make this window bigger so I can actually see there we go extra graphics and then hear all the graphic so instead I could just grab them from here and drag and drop him in here all right so you just do it that way as well so if you want o through bridge if you're used to using bridge it's gonna look really familiar to us just a mini version of it or you can jump right out to bridge because it actually launches bridge every time you want to use it has to actually launch it out there for it all right let's do some more ah placing let's actually play some pdf psas well so when open up a document that I have here for placing pdf ce so again I can place a pdf just I just like I place a graphic anything else and this is one of the points where I do want to make sure that I have show import options turned on because when it comes to a pdf of it's a multi page pdf I might want to choose what page of the pdf I'm actually placing so this case I have these four little squares and I have ah brochure I'm gonna place in here so we do file place and I'm going and I'm going to grab that pdf so there's just multiple page pdf and I'm going to say show import options really important when you do a pdf I can come in here and I can choose which page of the pdf I want to select so I can actually preview each of them which is nicely and I could tell it previewed page or all the pages or a specific page range this is great if you have a really massive pdf and you just want one section just bring in those particular pages and the other thing I want to make sure I do is tell it that I want to bring it in to the media size so in this case I have a certain page size that I had set up and I want to make sure that when I bring in these pages you know they all look the same even this one that only has a little bit of a copy on it still has that same size. Whatever it is, it looks the same and I want to fit him into those same size boxes that air there. If I came in and stood and said bounding box and I look, each page size is different that's going to be kind of confusing, right? So it's just taking the exact bounding box of everything that's on the page and bring in it that size so I don't want to do that actually do media I could do bleed if I wanted I don't have bleeds set upon in that particular document and also, you know, since his transparent background. So while there's a white background behind here, the rest of it is transparent, and if you have something like a just text a pdf with a ton of text and you want to put it on top of an image or a background color or something that you have in your indesign document. If you tell it transparent, that text will sit right on top of everything. If you don't have the transparent it's going to turn it white and it's going to like a big white piece of paper on top of it. I tend to turn it off if I don't need it, because then it's just trying to keep track of transparency, which just, you know, haven't really noticed a speed hit anymore, but I think it's one of those things from the old days, or is like, if I had transparency on it, had keep track of it, it was eating up my processor time, so I tend to turn that off, but you don't necessarily need to, so bring that and let's just say, I just want to bring in let's, just bring in page one through four still bring in the whole thing will say, ok, and now I have that loaded cursor again, and in this case, I have these guides already set up. I could just come in here and say, fit to page there just fit to that page fit to the page, and I'm just drawing each one and is putting each of the next page and there sequentially just loads it up, and then I could drop that page in there, all right? So I can actually just have that on the page and ready to go so that's. One thing that I do a lot is placing pdf ce on there, so being able to choose which which page to do? Do you think you could do is you can place several images at once and it could be images and text and pdf send everything together you can place everything you need for a document in one go, so if I do file place but coming here and I have, I believe, multiple multiple graphics, I don't let's just actually grab some graphics and grab j pegs and p s d s whatever else I need, and if I had a bunch of the same folder, I could grab them, they have to be in the same folder turnoff show import options otherwise it's going to ask me for every image, what do I want to do? So I turn that off, but I'm just brought in a whole bunch of one time and then they're just loaded up in my cursor and if I don't like the first one that's not the one I wanted a place on this page, I can use my up and down arrow keys to scroll through the different images, so, like that's, the one I want let's just place this one here little scroll through a place that one and that one and that one, right? So you just place all those at one time so you can throw in anything you want if I had text documents in that same exact folder I congratulate text is well in pdf psas well, put it all together at the same time you could do the same thing. If you are dragging from the desktop, you can grab multiple images here and then do the command tab to jump back, and then I can place all of those in a loaded cursor. Just click and place them or click and drag in, place them. Whatever it is I want to dio hold on the shift key on that one and get them all in there really, really quickly. Now again, the fitting isn't really good on that one because I did the different shape I could grab all of these at one time and change the fitting all at the same time feel from unfortunately, boom, all of the same time again. If I had that set up for that particular document or as a across the board preference, I can tell it ahead of time. The fitting, the frame fitting options do that ahead of time let's actually fill the frame proportionally from the center they want to bring in all those multiple files spring qualities in, then it doesn't matter if I click and drag or a click shift and drag everything is going to fit exactly how I wanted to be it's going to fill it proportionally. That one doesn't look proportional but it is it's just a very narrow era alley right so just brings that in and then I can go ahead and start changing how he's actually fit so sometimes the frame is dictating what size or shape something needs to be and sometimes it's the image itself it just depends on how you're setting everything up all right let's bring in got pdf so we're gonna working with those layers a little bit so I talked about being able to bring in layers from a photo file that has layers it's actually open up a new document file one place an image that has layers and I'm gonna tell us show import options so I can actually see the light years and I could choose those unimportant but the nice thing is even if I bring them in I can change them later changed the play with layers later once I get it in here but right now I've got shape one shape to aiken turn on shape to and let's turn off shape one that I can see the difference so it's showing me a preview over here what it looks like let's actually get what the word illumination we don't want that and let's get rid of the background there we go and that's all we want that's what we want her image to look like now I'm not making any change to the photo shop file it all it's just telling in design what layers it needs to show hope that makes sense, everybody so it's not making any change today and is not to the photo shop file. I'm sorry, and I have a choice down here when I update the link. So if something happens to the photo file has made some changes do I want the visibility overrides, which is what I've just said, even though I saved it with a certain set of layers on in the photo file when I do something else, maybe a change of color had something else to the photo shop file indesign do I want to keep these this set of layers on? Or do I wanted to take the ones that are saved in the photo shop file and send those down? Well, I just made all this took all this time to change the layers here, so I'm gonna go ahead and probably leave those if not, I would choose use photoshopped players, so say, ok, and so when I placed that image that's what it looks like in here, even though in the photo shop file, I've saved it with a different set of layers turned on, and I could go back and change that at any time if I select this object, cope under the object menu and come down to object layer options I could do the same exact thing that I just did turn on a previous we can actually see it. I can now turn on the layers that we had before or do whatever it is idea to do with that same options looks exactly the same is just now I'm changing it again just for this particular version of it. The other thing that you notice that's on here, a place that same document coming here, one of the other options was layer cops, so labor camps in photo shop you can set up different layer camps, you could turn on a set of layers and save that as a layer calm so that the person working of photoshopped doesn't have to turn layers on and off or me when I put it in designer have turned layers on and off, I can say, oh, you saved some layer comes that will show up here if there are layer comes in that file, if they're not, it would be great out. So I realize that the person that created this turned on some layers and saved it is layer company said, oh, with son in text, so what it did is it turned on those particular layers that air here, ah, lightbulb shape turns on that one. Son shape without text so they've created all these layer comes for me so I can just choose one of the ones that's here so that's really nice of someone and photoshopped has done that for me I don't have to think about it and turned layers on and off trying to say ok son was shaped that's without some shape great let's do that I'll place that image that's here that make sense to anybody so the letter comes or something that are either in and photo file or they're not but if they're there it will actually show up and give you that option so I'm actually going to take this item and what I want to do is I want to make some changes to it in photo shop and then I wanted to update automatically here so the way for that to happen automatically is you start the change in design so if I select this item in in design and I can right click or control click on the item and come down to edit original or edit with and an original has been there for a while what it ended original is going to do is open it up in whatever your system application is for working with whatever type of image it is in this case it's a psd file so it's gonna open a photo shop but if it were j peg it might open up in apple's preview so it's going to open up in that instead of something I actually want to work in? And that was all we had for a while, and a few versions back, they added at it with this is nice, because it lets you force open the exact application you want to open it in now, it'll tell me that the first one of the top usually is they put it down here photoshopped six is the default, so obviously wants to open a photo shop it's a photo file wants to open in the most current version, maybe for some reason, I want open it in an older version, or I want open it photoshopped elements instead or light room, so I can choose that I can come over to other and open it, and at so instead of going say, ok, great opening and photo shop cs six it's gonna launch it if it's not launched or it's going to open it and tells me the sponsor missing that's fine, and here I have all the options and I can make any changes I want to this particular item in this case, the only thing I'm going to do, so I don't mess anything up, I'm just going to turn on a different layer, which, of course, we could have just done in in design, but let's pretend I did some fancy shmancy editing to this and I made some changes to it and I'm going to hit safe so must save those changes and I'm just going to toggle backto indesign haven't closed the photoshopped file it all I'm going to talk about back and it automatically should update let's, try that again. Let's, turn this off, let's turn this guy off too! Oh, because you know what? I told it not to not to use the photograph one so let's it save when I come back here, so actually, let me try this again. I'm going bring this in and I'm not going to play with the labor camps. I told it to keep the ones that I kept in a did exactly what I told it to d'oh, but let's not do that this time, let's just say I'm going to bring it in and I wanted to use the photo shop players visibilities so we'll bring that in and I'm going to do the same thing. I'm going to start the round trip from in design a right clicked on that at it with photo shop coming here let's, turn on some layers and click save, then toggle back to in design and it automatically updates for me, so if I'm trying to play with the color or any image I want I would just keep as long as I started from in design and go out and edit it then when I make the change come back in here we'll turn some text office well let's hit save we go back and then I think we have to keep closing it it can just sit open but if you just go to into her toe photoshopped first and make changes it won't update automatically for you it's going to tell you it needs updating but we're going to go into that in just a while we're going to go into the links panel but I'll say hey, this needs updating this has been changed it's time to do it for yeah tells you but it doesn't do it for you so we started here it automatically forces that change that makes sense all right cool let's uh we could do the same thing an illustrator the illustrator layers works the same way turns the layers on and off just one of a sample of that and let's make sure that I have everything here especially friends let's work a little bit on that we made some square frames and that's been great but let's actually work with some specialty frames so I'm going to actually just draw with my circular tool and I'm just going toe put some different circles in here just for fun place those on a page if you know it's, each one has a little accident and it's his great, we're going to put an image in each of those but that's not actually what we're going to do. We're going to grab this and we're going to use this as a frame altogether. I want everything to be one big frame, so I'm going to drag across all these shapes that air here, and I'm going to go up under the object menu, and I'm going to come down two paths and I'm going to make it a compound path. So when I do that, you notice that has one big x through it that's kind of handy that's. Why I used the image one this time because I wanna make sure I did my compound path just right. So I like to have that on so I can see that x to make sure I have it. Right. So now I have this one frame and sees it is one big frame if they made it out of all these individual frames. So now let's place an image in there. I do. File place is going to go grab in image let's, actually grab this guy here and drop him in and it's a nice, tall picture. I'm just going to say ok, and I didn't tell it to you know, go ahead and replace that image of replace that item so I need to roll it over it so it actually puts it in there and now I can see I have that image in there and I can roll over and find the content grabber and I can make this bigger than hold on my shift key again make it a little bit bigger and then I'm just going to move it across and I can see where that's going to fit inside that shape all right? So now that's a compact pound shape if I move this it moves together I can actually use my direct selection tool and select on the images and I could make some changes to it if I want I can come in here and play with the items if I want to move them it's very tricky to dio sometimes I've been able to get a torque and sometimes not so much usually what I do is I will grab this and go back up to the object menu and go back to pass and release the compound path it's going to throw it into the upper left hand corner, but then I have these individual shapes and I might actually play with that move those where I need and then re sign that is a compound path all right, so come back down to pass. Make compound path and it puts it right back in that's there there be a reason that that's great out. Why the compound path is great out. If you have more than one path selected, you should be able to select it. Yeah, and I can check it later. And see if you have a least two items selected. It should be ableto make a compound path that makes sense. Everybody, we can also create frames out of text, which is kind of cool. So let me actually put an image in here, and we'll just go ahead and grab one of these let's, grab one of our venice ones here. Now that one's kind of boring. Let's not use that one. Let's. Grab this guy here and we put that in there and we actually want this to fill to the size. So let's actually come back to the object menu in the fitting and will fill the frame proportionally looks good. And then I want to create some text and I want to make the text of frame a cz. Well, so I'm going to create some text when he is the type tool, draw out a text frame. And let's just type this in we'll call this venice, which is what it is promised. We weren't gonna talk about venice today, but we're goingto anyway, eh? So let's just make this a little bit bigger actually a lot bigger and we'll center that will make a bold or about the type we're going do type later today and I just wanna make this a little bit bigger. I kind of get this honor and fifty that's what I want perfect so now I can make that word a frame if I want to a swell so I can select the text frame so I created the text used the direct select I'm sorry this election tool the solid tool to select the frame and then I'm going to go up under the tight menu and choose create outlines and now this is actually for actually a frame it's not text anymore, I can grab my direct selection tool, I get all the points and I can start making really weird adjustments to this text if I want to. I said I could do that and just do strange little things to the tight but it's no longer type before and change the words I have to start all over again so it's no longer type it doesn't see it is that but the cool thing is that's actually a compound path so I did as I did the same thing like making all the shapes and making it a compound path. I did that with the type now I can put a picture inside there if I want to all right? So let's, grab another picture and we'll just go ahead and drop that in there and now I have the entire picture in there and again if I grab this and tell it that I wanted a shrink it let's go to the object and fit it proportionally and actually fits in there for me and I could move this item up if I want to get something a little more interesting in there. So now I have the image back there inside my text some of the things that I do with that if I grab a word let's do the same thing will make the word venice again and I'll center it, hold it miss using again keyboard shortcuts we can talk about later let's make it that same size I can actually grabbed both of these items I'm going to make this a compound are I'm sorry I'm going toe convert it outlines and then I congrats both of these items together and make a compound path so that the object pass and make a compound path it's now together is one image, so if I move this down I could see that that's together if I move this, if I'd done this before, moved the image up right against it, it would have looked like it was one continuous thing, but I like it this way. It's kind of separated, but it's the same image that's inside both of those both of those frames that's there that makes sense. Everybody khosla's air compound, pass, specialty frame and I think that's probably a good place for questions. We've done a lot of frames and everybody probably has some questions. I'm sure you guys have questions here in the in studio. No, we're good. We'll let you think on it will come back to see if there's some on the internet asking for the internet. I always think all right, there is a big ah ha moment on all the chat rooms when you showed object layer options excellent. And there was a couple people saying I missed it. Can you we show it? Yes, just really quickly. Yes, absolutely. So if I'm bringing an image that has layers assigned to it when we drive show import options turned on we said later options, right? But I have the letters excellent cooling so it automatically shows up with all the layers, so these are the letters that were turned on the last time I saved my photo file so I can come in here and I can turn on and off whatever layers I want if it has layer comes if this is not great out means someone has saved sets of layers turned on and off and I can choose those instead of me manually doing that and then I need to tell it what to do when this when I make a save when I go out to dinner after photo shop and save it, I need even either say keep the layer visibly options that I've just set here in in design or go ahead and change it to the photo shop one so for the most part, like I said, I tend to keep the layer visibly override so I don't have to choose this again next time so I say ok? And those are the ones that are there now if I change my mind later, I don't have to replace the item I can come to the object menu and choose object layer options and I get the same exact choices but now I say, oh, I really should have had shaped one turned on before so I'll say ok and now that set up exactly the same great we've got one from maggie from orlando she's asking me if you can show the text changes again please the text changes so like when I was just making changes to the text I haven't really gone over it so I guess we can talk about that yeah maybe we should leave that you haven't really done text it also hang on there maggie we've got mohr excellent um this one comes from lynn m c g and she says I insert multiple pictures for yearbooks is there a way to grab a bunch of of student photos and insert them in the right order on her way out such grabbing yeah absolutely and we kind of did that with multiple ones but let's say you had a yearbook let's say we already have these items and I'm going to do I'm going to actually do just copy and I'm just going to step on repeat actually so let me step in repeat this just kind of set this up really quick what we would have and when turn a preview preview is really good we want to see that all the time and horizontally I might want to step on that I don't know how why does this let's do it an inch and a half wide and not vertically it all right? So I'm going to just step on repeat that that many times and then I'm going to step a repeat these I'm just setting up your book here really quick to say you know that's what I'm doing so I'm just going to step on repeat that let's do it three times vertically had let's, do it two and a half inches and see what that looks like a perfect so there's my yearbook alaia let's say we had that, and then I'm going to bring in a bunch of images and I'm going to use these because I know they're all tall pictures, and that will fit nicely. Someone like a place six of these six students, and again, I don't want to have all my options turned on. This is why I don't want him placing multiple images. I wanna make sure I don't have show import options turned on because it asks me for every picture I bring in, so I'm gonna bring that in and I could just roll over each one and go and place them in here each one. Now if I don't like the one that's there, I can use the up and down arrow keys to get to the right one until I can scroll through and find the right one and then drop it in there. Now, of course, I don't have this set up, right? I should have set up ahead of time, the frame fitting options so they were already fitting proportionally or whatever it is I need, but if I make a mistake at the antique and grab them all and go back to the fitting and say, feel frame proportionally and now they're all in there and ready to go so that's how I would do it if I had your book, I would just gather them all up there, probably all the same size and shape. And I would just continue to drop him inside the frames. Turbo place, terrible place like took longer to make the frames into places. We've got one from beauty of the lake and they're asking what if I want my friend to be in the shape of a heart in the shape of a heart? We would have to draw that, okay? Or what I would do is I would go out to illustrator and actually let me show this really quick. So in illustrator, if you go under your illustrator preferences, we have one called file handling and clipboard. And this is important. I talked about how you could take vector from illustrator and bring it into in design. It understands it just a way to draw. If you make sure your preference is that you have this a I c b selected that's the illustrator, clipboard, adobe illustrated clipboard and either preserve paths or preserve appearances. And over over prince I tended to preserve paths if you have that selected and you open up not a document I'm actually just going to create a new document and I don't know if there's a heart shape in here but there is something called the symbol sprayer that I use all the time they don't have open but let's see if I can get to the symbol sprayer symbols all right, let's say I had a heart I don't have a heart, but we're going to do an ink spot let's do that we're going to do this thing split right there so I can actually grab the paths that air there actually, I can't because those were not passed, all right, so if I drew something and I or ease the symbol sprayer, where is my symbol sprayer? What I have in the symbols prayer that should actually pick that up let's actually copy that it's doing a copy, we're going to come over to in design and we're gonna paste it, see what we get to have it here and let's see if I use my direct selection to aloha, we have all the paths she didn't look like it illustrator, so I actually have all those paths so I can make changes to those if I want or I can instead place a graphic let's, grab this guy again and we'll just drop it right inside there, so now that image is actually sitting inside that exploit that we had and of course if I didn't have it off on the pace board I mean grab all these guys out of here so you need something to draw a heart and the reason I said illustrators better is because they probably have a symbol for the heart or they or there's somebody that has an actual illustrator file that already is a heart shape but I can actually use that I can see that that image is actually sitting inside that image that I just grabbed from illustrator so I would grab something I'm pretty sure the simple sprayer has hearts so you just spray one just click at once and spread I use that all time there's a really cool fish that's over there I do it I bring in here then I could make changes to the colors and the way the fish is laid out and everything all within in design but you have to have that's setting in your preferences set up first it's under file handling and clipboard and the has to be checked grills it won't work for you so that's how I would do it we'll do one more or do we want to break its let's keep a couple of questions I am all right so that's from beauty of the lake you already got one I had a couple of them lined up there sorry we've got one from daddy um this woman was asked from earlier today, but I think it's not relevant. Can you add multiple images on different pages? Yes, what do they need to be on the same page? They could be on different pages. That's something I do all the time on the special replacing pds since I have a one hundred page pdf and it needs to just be each page on its own. Pdf. So I do that all the time. And so if I have that multiple page pdf, we go out to that and I'm going to grab that and we say show import options because I want to make sure I get everything I need. I say all the pages and we're going to do it to the bounding box page bounding bucks. We'll say ok, and I can click on this page and place it right in this spot. My I don't know why there's nothing in there, it's. Very interesting. Why my multiple page? Oh, because I actually placed thean design file that's not very helpful, let's. Come in here. You can place it is I'm file inside another in design file. But it didn't work so well for me, so I'm just gonna click right at that spot and it's a small page it's, a smaller doctor mint but the cool thing is I placed it let go and I can do my keyboard shortcut I said earlier about adding a page shift commander p or or shift control p and it adds a new page on my cursor sitting right the same spot I'm going to click and it's going to click the next page did I not place multiple pages let's place all the pages erica all the pages I'm going to click and then we do though I keyboard shortcut for a new page and click a new page and click and so what I've done is I've created a document with a page on each one and if I did an image it would be the same exact way I'll just bring in all those images again it's bringing my multiple images and come down here and grab those and we don't want the import options on so it doesn't ask me every page but yeah, I can click on this page and this page and as long as I don't choose another tool I could go over and even though I have that loaded cursor I'm playing with the scroll bars it's still there as long as I don't grab another tool I could even go in grab other create other pages on the fly, but as long as they don't grab another tool so that they don't need to be all in the same same page that was a long winded answer but had to show you were visual people right there is a goblin we actually had a question from twitter and it's actually going to back to the earlier part of today that's alright andi is from twitter handle at s t o t t question about guides can you explain why some guides extend outside the page margins and some don't yeah absolutely there's a page pace board guides if you drawn guide and you're drawing out on the pace portney let go it will drop all the way across if you are just on the page it only draws it across the page and there's just different reasons why you might want it sometimes I don't like mine extending out too often because I tend to throw things off on the side that I just want to work on and I'm accidentally grabbing those instead so yeah it's just a preference of how you want your pages your guides to be but yeah, just draw it in here and I believe there's also a keyboard shortcut of conference shifter option options switches it there's a way to get it so you can draw it out here but it doesn't draw it onto the page of the spaceport at all I just don't remember over here it is it's if you're on the page and he wanted to go all the way across hold on the command but I just draw it on the side of the page that I needed to theirs is just a personal preference regarding images. I mean, we were working with placing images earlier, and several people were asking about image quality loss when you re sizing the images that's and also, if you're going to be using it for print, would you use a tiff or jape? We're going to talk about the resolution, we get links, absolutely, but as faras night, I wouldn't use a tiff unless I had the tip already. If I have the option to use the psd file again, I would stick with the psd fall, so answer that part was already covered that way. We're going talk about that when we get to links, we don't talk about the resolution and sizing it up and what that does, especially for print? Absolutely okay, quite a few people in the chat rooms in the live chat room and also the huge q question room, but they're just all about the heart graphics right now, way thiss questions from beauty of the lake again from st pete and I says, I've seen tech symbols that our hearts can I convert those outlines and then put a shape? And yes you absolutely could do that so let's actually do that so we would do the same thing we would convert it so I'm going to actually uh well coming here will make a accepting bets I think that some good ones and I'm just going to happen oh bunch because I don't know exactly what might sure come on all right we'll do those and we'll make him kind of big so we can see him let's see if we we hit any hearts I doubt we did we'll try it anyway I made it way too big all right let's just select everything here let's make that one hundred point there we go all right and give any hearts but I got this nice flower right so I can take those images and do the same thing we did earlier where we can create outlines so now those air actual symbols that air there so I'm going to undo that because I don't want all these other ones let's just take this one flower one that we have here and I can take that and I can create an outline out of that and now that is a symbol and we could actually place a picture in that it's got a lot of stuff it mainly show in the white section some might have been the best example we can place that in there we can actually see where that is and will take the object and fitted to fill the frame proportionally so we can see it in there. So, of course, we can only see it in the parts that were black there. So, again, if we had a heart, it would have been a lot better. But, yes, you could take any font that has its. If you have a fund that has it create outlines, it becomes a frame. It's, that compact pound frame that we had before, and it works just the same.
