Mixing EDM Overview
Okay guys so I thought maybe I'll go over a few tracks that I've made in the past some of the ones that I've done this past few days and just talk about something that mixed down stuff I mean the next down kind of tio as I go so that both will show you how how unless is maura's well, I mean on this truck for example I'm going to load up a few tracks and show you my my mixer page just to show you how how bear he actually is I mean, if you look on a lot of these channels of literally just got a few e cues you know in overdrive on this one as well lots of people have got hundreds of plug ins and each track you know and if you actually go through a few of them are actually probably doing anything so I'm just gonna go play a player this's the tune I've done in on this in this second segment I believe he's going to play a bit of this yes, let me just go over a few of the I mean the kick here, for instance, eventually just got a unique you want it take a little bit, but I'm out we'll give top...
there's not really any need for compression the kicks worthy of a certain you know, certain for human ninety nine years on this just let you take it a little bit more complicated taken out by a face looking at here is the number one top just to give it extra higher sheen and again on this just a nick you taking out all of the all of the bomb here? You can hear that talk again a crap here have also I didn't overdrive I drive a lawn snares and collapse really plugging just to control things and again I'm not interested in you it happens every now and then this truck thing writes again she just just keep taking out somebody I have a few more things going on you also have a thing called spread out whenever briefly the other day and it's just widens widens this sound a bit and see how this works down. The bottom here is your base appears the top and it basically splits the frequencies so it might have you know, one frequency over here one over there and widen stuff if you are if you are going to want I mean if this sound is already got lost area content is no point putting your son but something that is is more no, this is a good thing to make it a little bit wider on again this is one of compatible as well so some people put too much too much stereo stuff going on and when you if you morning some things can disappear because they left at lights out of phase you know? So it's always good to yes, but be a good idea if you are if you have got lots of soon well wide stuff going on to be a good idea when your master bus to put again plugging and you've got more no but in here so let me just inside of this, you know, here much difference where is if I had I think south with some people like to widen things by using today sample today a lot of people I've seen a lot of people jesus and stuff saying you should use this to widen stuff, but it is quite bad idea really I mean so that if you could tell he tended right up slightly, why didn't that sounds way get some weird effects going on? We never speak of some people dio like you've got a certain effects adjust the phase and stuff. So for instance, if I wr if I had to lift in my face to each other very wide but my master bus does a lot choir people might say, well, it doesn't really matter most things in stereo but a lot of club music would be surprised how many times that the output of d j mix is just is just one side of the output or something or it's been one out somewhere or somewhere along the line so in that situation you know little things can disappear you know, I've been behaving what promo once and the whole snare was completely out of phase so if you wanted it the whole snow disappeared completely, you know, just crazy so that's you know, just one thing toe keep mind offices wanna compare billy and like I said again just to do that again over your master and every now and then just quickly morning but make sure nothing's completely disappearing all standing or faizi and they put that back to how it was what we got in here yes again drums that you're just a baby kyu had spread there again just little bits of river up here and they're all these little sounds I've just got a little bit of this bus nine river which happens to be this short verb here and again on this river up here on the bus afterwards I put e q one it takes on the bottom out she didn't want much bomb stuff going on in your iv herbs and talking of stereo and stuff this's tore use quite often as well direction mixer so for instance, this this revolver is quiet quite a wide sounding river so that's everything on this river by before this is on one what happens with this effect here as I move this in more knows it doesn't very amounts he completed that the whole thing is completely money I don't want to be completely mano I don't want to be two wives this plug in here control have wide something is so find another simple something that's really why I want to bring in a bit being slightly around six seven it's not completely um I know but it's not really wide it's better for you and again here I've got my photo on the river of as well so even the re verbs have got insight you take everything that kind of that slight pumping type feel yeah against you can see pretty much just a few few week use here and there a few sends this it is pretty simple a lot of ways to do it do it the sound of your choosing and just the levels between them you know that's the major part of the mix down isn't about just putting plug ins left right and center over every sounds try make it sound better because another thing as well that the way it works is a lot of times if something is allowed, those perceived to be better and, you know, see everything can't be loud what so yes that's why e q is your main talkto have everything sitting in the in the right place and again and everything when you're writing music as well because when you if you want a little sip part sometimes it's always a good idea to experiment opted urine so this this sound here for example on wasn't playing this because I'm I've got something so loaded right there we go we're not that one this one here theo this is the same as this sound over here through here because of the insured there's not much going on I've got this we're supposed to keep if I had the sounds keep the sound down stay with the with the midst of the base so if you just when you just put a little party and it's always good to experiment and up in theory of course everything else you know so it's always a good tip get to people's toe experiment with what arctic region they've been weaver sound because it's changing you know the frequency is going to sit in with other sounds better yeah, something that's about it on this tune let me let me let up another check was there any questions? Well, I load up another track. Um yeah, james wants to know. Can you do some quick tips on compression while we're on the top of mixed down the oh yeah, yeah go for that sick so here's another truck I don't it's another house trucker that you guys have heard yet
Learn the basics of producing electronic music from DJ and producer, Ed Solo. Ed has worked with DJ Fresh, Krafty Kuts and FreakNasty, and in this class he’ll show you how to drop the beat using Logic Pro.
Ed will take you through the essential elements of electronic music and show you how to use Logic's EXS24 sampler and a few other virtual instruments. You’ll learn how to work with Logic Pro’s stock sounds and explore the range of options you already have in your DAW. Ed will teach you proper routing and mixing with eq, compression, and effects. Then he’ll show you how to bring the elements together and produce a complete mix. Ed will also discuss what differentiates the electronic music genres, drum 'n' bass, trap, dubstep, and house — and how to create the sound that make them unique. Ed will also show how many of these techniques can be applied to any DAW, not just Logic Pro.
