Benefits of Boundaries

So I want to talk about the benefits of boundaries because, like we all know boundaries, air good is like I don't want to deal with boundaries because that's what I have fun. I want to be nice on love at your body. Get love, you guys, you guys. Boundaries are a good thing. Anyone who's been around kids. If you give kids four jars of paint and a kitchen, you have a big hot mess on your hands. But if you give kids two jars of paint and some paper and a friend and like the potato stamps and you tell them you have 15 minutes to make a farm, there's focus. There is clarity. They know what they're doing. And yet his creatives We want this creative free. I'm gonna be free. I give Christine a hammer. She's banging holes in the wall because she doesn't know to do with it. I say to her, Can you build me a birdhouse? It's like, Yeah, she might build it out of felt or right like ketchup bottles. That's weird. That would be a weird birdhouse, but like who knows, right, But all of a sudden it's so m...

uch easier to create within those parameter, right? So, Karen, your jewelry designer, you have a certain set of materials that you use. And what that does is it tells a cohesive story of her brand. You're not coming out being like, Well, I have this new line of knit things with yarn because your brand is metallic, It's bold. It's metal right there. Is this, like, kind of rock and roll quality to it? The yarn isn't gonna not fit your brand. There's nothing wrong with the yarn. It doesn't fit your brand. So again, like boundaries. You guys a promise? They're a good thing. They allow you to set limits so you can focus on your rial work that work that you are meant to be doing. We're gonna send some boundary limits on your social media. We're gonna be setting some boundaries on your time. These boundaries there are hard and fast rules, right? There's fluctuation. But again, it's about being deliberate about making the fluctuation. It's Friday night. I don't have anything to do. I'm gonna pull up Facebook and look at my old boyfriend stuff. OK, but be deliberate. Don't do that at four o'clock. You're like So what happened in my day and then used in the next three hours being a crazy person because you forgot to do your work? You wanna do it Friday night with a glass of wine and have a friend come over and let's look at what happened to his hair. Do that. That's fine. We're not taking that away right? Maybe do it a little less exactly great for you. So I want you know, this again. This class is about social media. I hope that you guys walk away kind of setting boundaries in a lot of places. But this is about what confound what in social media boundaries do for your life, and it's that instead work great. It's that I want to do a new line, a product. How cool would that be to fall into my new collection, you know, as creatives. We don't have very much time to create Emily McDowell, who I quoted earlier She has this really thriving and amazing. I mean, it's hurts. Products are amazing. You guys should definitely check her out. Listen to that podcast episode to um, she I asked her in the interview. I said, How much time he has been creating 15% of her business has spent creating. And she said, it's always done on deadline. What if it was 50% right? It doesn't have to be all or nothing, right? But it's What if it just one of his 20%? You know you can You can build up that. So I want to get you back to creating yeah, about boundaries. It's kind of a basic question, but so our most folks have the most. Let's have a separate sort of like Instagram for work. And then, like a personal Instagram like, I noticed that some people I follow, they have, like, really smart post about, like the work or like what? You know, the community they're involved in. And then there's like, Look what I have for breakfast, you know what I mean? I'm curious like how people deal with that. That's a great question. I mean, I think that it really again, it depends on your brand. So if that person who has a really smart post and then the breakfast, if part of their brand is to be relatable, I wanna be the every guy looking my love bacon then that might fit. That may not be a very cohesive social media account. Would be my suspicion right, because I think that we try to just do everything. We aren't deliberate about it. And so we don't have any guidance for what we're posting. So that's what happens, right? It's all a jumble. I think that you can. You know, I think if you really just love posting pictures of your breakfast, either get them on Brand right? What can I tell a story about my breakfast that's a bold, inspired and vibrant. Honestly, that would be hard. You know, it might be like a picture bottle hot sauce with, like, let's spice things up but that I e So I choose for me. I choose to use social media for my business because I don't have time to manage multiple accounts, right? So we have a private photo stream for pictures of our kids that are family can get. That's enough for me. Every now and then, I'll post a picture of my kids and help tell the story of being a mom, right that inspired being bold, telling a different story than you hear about when you see pictures of kids on Instagram. You know, I might show a picture of my dog and be like, I am busting my butt trying to get this creative life stuff done to make it awesome and this girl needs a walk. But that's telling a very different story than Hi, Bobby. Right? So, you know, you get to make that decision to of how much of your personal life to let in. I get very personal on my social media, cause that's where that boldness comes in and the inspired I want to get people's attention. And I do that by telling my own stories and by getting vulnerable and talking about the things I struggle with day to day. And people say, I thought I was the only one. They're not going to say that. My eggs. I thought I was the only one who liked eggs, Right? So you can you, You know, that's that's really a question for you to answer of how if it doesn't fit into your strategy, you know, and do you want to manage multiple accounts? Do you need do? If you have Facebook, do you need the personal instagram account, too? probably probably not right. Unless you love it. You can manage double accounts. Instagram does not make it easy to manage double accounts. I know most people who do multiple accounts have two phones, and that's how they do it. Or they'll have, like a IPod touch, you know, or something that connects to the Internet because it's the switching back and forth. If that again. If you want to do that, it's part of your overall strategy. Great, Not part. I don't have time for that. Right? So, travel. Yeah, great. Um, so here's what you get when you get deliberate, you get more done in less time is not like the best promise ever. I will save you time. It's like a by now kind of infomercial thing you're gonna have built in systems and structures. You're gonna build these into your work in your day and your flow. So you're not gonna have to get up in the morning like, oh, what am I gonna post it and what are what am I gonna do today? You'll be able to assess what's working and what isn't. Focus plus clarity equals more creation and better creation because you are gonna be giving your prime energy and your prime thought to your work instead of everybody. You sit down first thing in the morning when you start your work day and you answer emails, right, We all do it. And those emails keep coming in and you keep answering emails. And at the end of the day, all you've done is answered emails. You still have some to answer. And you're like, I didn't write that blawg post. You write it when you're tired. It's rush because you got to go get dinner on the table because his kids are not getting any less hungry. What if we shift that dynamic so that you sit down and you write your vlog post and then later you go and you're like, That took me 15 minutes? That's good. Wow, that's really good. And you surprise yourself. The email will still get answered, right? People do this. Also, I hear this a lot from people who work from home of, Well, it's so hard to get worked on because I have to do the dishes you guys have. Dishes are going to get done. You can do the dishes when you're tired, right? Some making your priorities, setting your priorities and getting really clear about what you want to accomplish. Content creation is at the heart of your business for all of you, whether that content is client work, whether it's promotional. But by committing the creating new content, you will step up your game. So that's our goal. Here is content over consumption creation over, over consuming. They're gonna come back to this. You've seen this slide. I would love to use social media to blank because Blank I'm curious. If anybody's answer has changed, I would love to hear We can hear from the chat to Is there anything that comes up for you? What do you guys want to use Social media to? Dio? Yeah, um I do wanna build relationships, okay, because I'd, um, love to find raving fans like have more mawr interaction. More like people are like, Oh, you know, rather than just like arms to brand itself stuff but stuff like riel thing. So one thing you could dio is start including a business card in your orders. That says I love to connect with my customers on social media. I love to see pictures of you and your jewelry. Be sure to tag me. You could create a hashtag and that way you can connect. But you don't have to go find them And follow your telling them, You know, maybe. And maybe you dio where once a month we're gonna talk about this to maybe once a month. You feature around up people wearing your products, do you give them a little shout out? You could re graham them on instagram and show. Show them all. So it's gonna be a benefit for them too. Re Graham. What? Did anyone's answer change? No, I see it. You see it in my face? Um, I want you to social Media to build a community. It was because so I could be part of it. But it's also I realized what my end goal is to help others as well. I really want to make things accessible for people who are either getting into the industry or want to learn mawr need help. Yeah, that's huge. So that's so different than selling right now. If you end up being able to sell your services to those people because it's a good fit and because you're delivering value high five. That's great. Or, if they were for you, to their friends are you know, because again, we're trying to make some money. So that's OK, right? But building community is huge. I created a Facebook group for my podcast because I kept seeing people talking about it and hearing months, something like how these great people in somewhere on Twitter and somewhere on Facebook and I was like, I can't I found myself not being able to keep up with all of it. And then I felt like a flake. I felt like kind of a bad person. I was like, Man, well, these people are sending me love and I can't send him love back. And that feels bad. So I made a Facebook group. I mean, is that how you guys come join my Facebook group? That'd be awesome. And I tied a tone often, so hey, you can also get my newsletter. You can sign up Tiffany han dot com. Um, you can also get my news letter so maybe one day some of these people will buy for me. But it's also helping establish My brand is I am the go to person for people who want to take creative risks in their businesses and their lives. See how I did that? Right? And you guys are like, Yeah, it's telling the story. So, yes, and we could talk about that. But a Facebook group might be a great option for you, especially with your other project with your T shirt project. That could be really cool to. And that's a great way to to find out what your customers want more off. Maybe you're people who know necklaces air, like I've got all the necklaces I need, but like, I would love a bracelet. All right, so now we're gonna set some boundaries. We're gonna talk like some brass tacks. I want to know for you guys. And this is a starting place. So sometimes again, we're aiming for that 60% success. This will evolve. We're going to I don't have any of you like by planners. Could you think they're gonna change your life, right? Have, like, 1900 then it doesn't. And then I just they pile up. So we aren't going to do that Here. What we're gonna do, remember, we're gonna continue to evaluate so instead, the last time we needed a plan or, you know, what I did is I made myself one from, like, I printed out pieces of paper and I'm cut him up and pasted them together. And then I figured out what features I needed, what I didn't. And I wouldn't pound that planner. So I didn't expect the planner to change in my life. I said, What system is gonna work best for me? That's what we're doing here. So remember you guys, So let these answers evolve because you don't know yet, right? We don't know yet how much time I want to spend on social media because we haven't tried it. But if you say 15 minutes a day and then you spend 30 minutes a day, does that mean you're a failure? No. It means that maybe you need a little extra time. Or maybe you need to streamline more, or maybe need 30 minutes four times a week instead of 15 minutes a day. Okay, Right. No one's getting like internal. It's going to like Facebook jail for this. We're getting started, But anything is better than nothing. Anything is better than all day long, right? So write this down. How much time do you want to sped? A day or a week, Right. You can do whatever you want. What do you want to focus on? Under you said building community. Great. That's a great focus. Do I need to see what you ate for breakfast? Maybe if it's relevant to your community. Right? Maybe that's some, like Jamaican food. Awesome things. Yeah. Is there anything you'd like to avoid? I'm gonna give you some avoidance tools later. I asked him Trick. I got some tricks up my sleeve for that. So we're getting really clear on this. So I want to know from you guys. How are you feeling now about social media? Better than before. Like tell me, Christine. What you thinking? Good place. But then this is It might be someone designer, OCP, whatever. But when I look at my instagram, feed him like I kind of want to reshuffle them and take something out and like, yeah, great. You can do that. Be like they all don't. It doesn't all fit. But then but I kind of love where we're gonna be talking about your grid later. Not your grid but like that graham bread. So I hope everyone is feeling excited about the possibility and less tire, right? So that's really what we want one that thrilling residents to be coming through. So here's Here's a big number two hours a day. That's what the average person spends on social media. And I suspect that for a lot of my fellow creative entrepreneurs they spend a lot more time there. So I want you guys to think about what you would do if somebody handed you two hours a day. No strings attached, shores air, done. Aaron's air done two hours of creative freedom. What would you dio? I'd write that book. I'd probably come up with a new program for my business, something really exciting. I want you to bring it back to this. That thing that you're like, I'd make my movie and build my community. Let's start that podcast right now, you guys to make your declaration off social media because we're gonna be coming back to this big thing because this big thing, this is a work that the world needs from you to be out there and I want you guys I want to challenge you to make a public declaration for us. We're going to coming back to it later. Are So do it publicly now in the next, like five or 10 minutes, please. And you know, my big thing is you can do it on Instagram or Twitter. Hashtag social media, social media sanity. Two hours a day. I can't wait to see what goes Dio, because this is what we're working towards. This is the whole reason we're in here because I want to give you guys back that gifts of time.

I bought this course at exactly the right time. Everything Tiffany said is still 100% relevant today. It's not about posting more or using more platforms. Instead she helps you develop a strategy that's super easy. I did mine during the course and it's by far the best marketing plan I've ever created for my business. I learned a big lesson on this course: if you don't like doing it, then drop it; and that includes social media, anything in your business, etc. I have such a sense of relief and calmness now about my business. One of the best business courses ever.
