You know how I set things up and plan to shoot, so have it be like, you know, back your hand. Hello, everyone, I'm britt tolson, I'm the senior forensic photographer for the seattle police department, and I specialize in scientific technical photography, so I'm really looking forward to roberto's class, especially this morning, talking about light and its in depth foreman, understanding it so he could build a strong foundation to get into actually using the speed lights, which I do use that at multiple locations, and I have to push them to their max sometimes perhaps not in a creative version, but it all counts it all counts toward light those of you who want to see some of my non criminal work, you can go to www dot five hundred p x dot com backslash drop box with the bee x d rop b x eight zero two four and if you want to send me a tweet it's at seattle big show yes I am big show and you guys can just drop me a line no haters okay love you very cute well it was really fun to get to know big show a little bit better yesterday and we just have a few minutes left so I wanted teo bring up another one of our in studio audience members and get to know her a little bit more slowly come on up now what I love about li is that she has been here at creative live many many times and we love that you keep coming back so tell us a little bit about all the different courses that you've been here in our studio audience well starting the first time I was instead I've been watching creative life for a couple of years and the first time in studio was photoshopped weak which is photo shop on steroids it was a phenomenal and I've also I'll do anything that ben wilmore does so I've been here a few times for him and I have had the good fortune to be able to participate in a couple of workshops I was able to bring my cat and be a model for arkad orff's pet photography class was that a crazy experience or what? It was phenomenal she had a a small horse here photographed with other farm animals and it was really amazing her style is just beautiful it's phenomenal and in america yes and phenomenal photographer so and then aaron aces composite class right I was in the laundromat and it was it was just it was so much fun well this is what I love about a lot of the people who live here locally is that you are part of the family you get to come here and be part of it and there's so many opportunities for many men the people who are local who are regulars in fact that's how susan and I got started here a cradle why was being in person junkies here so thank you for coming and participating so much now your real estate for a photographer in addition teo portrait photographer yes what are some of the challenges of real estate photography? Well with real estate you really never know what to expect until you walk in the front door and so you can be presented with a gazillion reflective surfaces a variety of colored walls we have to deal with the white bounds and then you also have lamps and chandeliers and and anything that whenever you use primarily speed lights okay and so then you have to deal with the shadows beyond the chandeliers and how to compensate for those by adding additional flash and modifying and so this is a perfect hermit day for you and you gotta have sleep, roberto questions on the side during breaks and at lunch, which is a very different thing. Being in person with him, we'll be able to ask those personal questions and personal challenges. So we are so happy to have you here, so thank you so much. Thank you. Class Description

Speedlights is part of our special bundle Lighting Toolkit.

There are so many options when it comes to speedlighting — how do you know which model to choose? Award-winning photographer Roberto Valenzuela will answer all of these questions and equip you with “go to” settings for any shoot, no matter the location.

Off-camera flashes are powerful tools for creating and complementing available light. While they might seem overly complicated, speedlights are an effective way to precisely control flare and create glow. By simplifying the process and arming you with step-by-step formulas, Roberto will eliminate your fear and give you the foundation you need to take your photography to the next level.

I liked this course. Except I think on segment 3 of the lighting, as stated by one of the studio audience he got the color balance of warm wrong and blue when he was talking about balancing the light (at 30 minutes in). Having said this I got the theory of balancing, and the rest of the video was excellent. It really does help to see flash as photons and understand what science behind it, to understand how light works and how to use it to your advantage. This a a great course in order to revisit now and again in order to become competent on lighting when put on the spot of having a difficult situation.

This class is like shopping at Marshalls: there are some valuable things to buy but you have to go through a lot of crap to get to them. The production value of this class is awful. The folks at Creative Live must not have a class on video editing to follow because not enough material was left on the editing room floor.. Roberto is fabulous but it must have been one of his earlier forays into teaching because he was scatological in many areas. Creative Live could have minimized this by doing some editing. He's a fabulous photographer and an even better teacher and this class would be much better if it followed the format of his 3 books: orderly and succinct. Learned a lot from this class. I just wish I didn't have to work so hard for it.

I have to say upfront that I have not purchased this course but the brief information he gave is spot on! I'm a sr. photographer for a large beauty company and I have to give him kudos for how detailed and accurate his explanations are. If the entire video is anything like the preview I highly recommend it.
