Welcome to the Parsons and CreativeLive Learning Pathway. I'm your host, YuJune Park. I'm also the Associate Director and Assistant Professor in the BFA Communication Design program at Parsons School of Design. Parsons is a leading design institution housed within a progressive university called the New School in New York City. Parsons brings together students from around the world to discover the transformative capacity of design. And a good question you might be asking is, why does communication design matter? Today the average American experiences over 5,000 types of communication every day and most of it is just background noise. Imagine if we lived in a world where we can communicate more clearly, more beautifully, and increase understanding. That's the type of world I would wanna live in. At the end of the day, communication is so much at the foundation of connection and connection is really at the heart of what it means to be human and how we understand the world. The goals of the Communication Design program at Parsons are shared with the CreativeLive Learning Pathway. We wanna prepare you to be the 21st century Contemporary Communication Designer. That means you're a cross-platform maker working comfortably and fluidly between print, screen, space, and experienced design to create new methods of communication. We want you to be able to work in a global context. Parsons and I have handpicked the best design classes in the CreativeLive Pathway to get you started in the field of Communication Design. The first class we're gonna take is Contemporary Communication Design with me. In this class, we're gonna introduce the field of Communication Design, we're gonna talk about the essential skills you need to enter the field and grow. Next we're gonna move into Graphic Design Fundamentals: Type with Timothy Samara. In this course, you're gonna learn all about typography. At the end of the day, typography is the foundation of Communication Design because Communication Design is all about clear communication and clear communication is really rooted in language. Then we're gonna move into A Designer's Intro To HTML and CSS. This is where you're gonna learn all about type and how it works online. Then we're gonna move into the Basics of Adobe CC: Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. In this class, you're gonna learn the foundational software skills to begin designing. Then we're gonna move into Thinking Like A Book Designer. This is where you're gonna take your software skills and your type skills and you're going to apply it to your first project, a book design. And what's so exciting about this is a book design is a great way to learn all about storytelling and narrative in your work. Then we're gonna move into Creating Your First Webpage With Code. This is the natural extension of Thinking Like A Book Designer because you're gonna learn about storytelling but now online. Then we're gonna move into Modern Web Design Demystified where you're gonna learn about where web design is today, what do you need to know to grow in this field. Then we're gonna move into How To Build A Memorable Brand. This is where you're gonna take your type, your print skills, and now your digital skills and you're gonna apply it to branding. Next we're gonna move into A Brand Called You. This is where you're challenged to ask yourself what makes you uniquely you and what type of work do you wanna make one day. Then we're gonna move into Creating A Knockout Design Portfolio. You have all the skills now. Now it's time to build your body of work and during this pathway, I'm here to work alongside you. I'm partnering with you to teach you the 10 tools to really enter our field and thrive. We have a lot of work to do so let's get started.
