Where To Go Next!

Congratulations, you finished the Parsons and CreativeLive Learning Pathway, it's a big accomplishment, you now have the tools in your toolkit to enter the field of communication design and begin to grow and thrive. This brings us to our final tool, tool number and that is learning how to learn. I talk with hundreds of students every year and they always ask me, am I a good designer? Am I doing well enough? And what I always remind them is, don't worry because you aren't any of those things. The truth is you're always becoming something and who you become is in your power because you can learn anything. As Michelangelo said on his 87th birthday, "I'm still learning." He is my biggest inspiration because if he had that approach to life, so can we. There are three different ways that we can continue to learn. First is learning from the past, that includes both looking around at all the amazing work that's been made, you can go to your local library or check out a gallery and just see ho...

w are people communicating through text and visuals. Next, you can also learn from your previous work and see what's working well and what's not, and how you can continue to grow. As we discussed earlier, reflection equals growth. Another way to continue learning is from learning from the present, that really means learning from other people. Communication design is a living field, I really encourage you to share your work with other people and continue to ask them how can you communication more beautifully, how can you increase understanding. And finally, you can learn from experience. At the end of the day, there's no shortcut to becoming a great designer, it's all about making a lot of work. Not just making it and then remaking it, it goes back to the design process of iteration and if you keep making a lot of work, you will be amazed how far you can go. Now that you finished the Pathway, there's so many places you can go next. You can continue to take courses at CreativeLive, you can enroll in a local course, you can continue to make work by yourself and with your friends, or you can even join us at Parsons School of Design in New York City. We have a robust BFA Communication Design program where you can continue to develop the skills, techniques, and methods to become a 21st century communication designer. You can find us online at newschool.edu/parsons or, hey, if you're ever in New York City, I wanna invite you to come visit our school. We give regular tours and we'd be happy to tell you more about our program. And now, remember the very first video. Remember when I said there are over 5,000 types of communication that we encounter every day and most of it is just noise. Now you have the tools to communicate more powerfully, more effectively, more beautifully, and to increase understanding, and imagine what a world we would live in if we all communicated just a little bit better. That skill is now within your hands so I wanna just say, I wish you the best of success moving forward and thank you so much for joining us.
