Small Space, Big Contrast: Mastering Contrast in a Home Studio is a practical lighting class taught by commercial and portrait photographer Mark Wallace. You’ll learn how to control light and shadow to create dramatic, professional-looking portraits without needing a large studio.

Throughout the workshop, Mark breaks down how light position and modifier choice work together to shape contrast, from soft, open lighting to deep, moody shadow. Using a small home studio setup, he demonstrates how the same subject can take on a completely different feel simply by changing where the light is placed and what is used to shape it.

You’ll explore core light modifiers including softboxes, grids, reflectors, flags, and more, and see how each one affects contrast and shadow edges. You’ll also learn how to read a portrait, identify why it looks flat, and make the right adjustment to create a stronger final image.

This class includes a dedicated 30 minutes of Q&A directly with Mark Wallace.
