Carly Romeo

Carly Romeo is a feminist, artist, and workaholic determined to use her education in women's studies and her feminist politics to transform the established wedding industry into a more equal and welcoming place; her two current projects are Two Spoons Photography and Catalyst Wedding Company. Carly started Two Spoons in mid-2013 as a self-taught, openly feminist photographer hoping that she would find others who believe that weddings should be celebrations of love and community and awesomeness, not Bride-centric, patriarchal, Pinterest-paloozas. Since then, she has shot dozens of such couples around the world. As a co-founder of Catalyst Wedding Company (along with Liz Susong and Jen Siomacco), Carly publishes Catalyst Wedding Magazine, a groundbreaking publication that features relationships and weddings that are left out of the mainstream wedding media conversations: same-sex couples, fat couples, older couples, interracial couples, non-white couples, queer couples, and more; the Kickstarter campaign to print volume one nearly doubled its goal in less than two weeks. Catalyst Wedding Company also hosts a once-a-year workshop for progressive wedding professionals called (un)convention, and has been featured on Time.com, Buzzfeed, Bustle, HelloGiggles, Refinery29, and more.
