While commencement speakers shout “follow your dreams” from podiums around the country, creativeLIVE CEO Mika Salmi has more actionable advice: Just get in. In his first column as a LinkedIn influencer, Mika adeptly distills the fluffy cloud of advice targeting 2013 graduates in one fell swoop.
Marketing guru Michael Port divulged a few secrets during Day 1 of his Book Yourself Solid workshop. Namely, that marketing isn’t about booking clients; it’s about generating awareness. It’s what you do once someone becomes aware of you that generates clients, Michael explained, touching on a cornerstone of his tactical Book Yourself solid marketing system.
Michael also shared his own poignant definition of what marketing truly is. “It’s a love story disguised as a business system. We’re trying to have a love affair between us and our clients, between us and the whole concept of building and marketing the business, and of course between ourselves and ourselves.”

Last week, we asked photography bloggers who were watching Scott Robert Lim or Brooke Shaden’s course to write something about it. The variety of posts we recieved is fantastic. We suggest you give them all a good read!
1) A great breakdown of the techniques learned during Scott Robert's lighting course.
2) An excellent piece that helps explain and encapsule Brooke's creative work.

Did you learn something last week? We sure did.
This past week, creativeLIVE hosted two amazing instructors for 6 full days of instructive, top-notch lessons and demonstration.
Though their technical lessons captured the attention of thousands across the globe, it was their ability to motivate and inspire that was truly unforgettable.
Scott Robert Lim started the week off right with Crazy Stupid Light — an informative course on lighting and lighting techniques. He taught us how to find the best light both in the studio and on location. It was his closing speech, however, that left us all teary-eyed and ready to take on the world. Check out some of the highlights here:

Kelly Brown’s Newborn Posing workshop blew us away on a number of levels. The Australia-based photographer gave us goosebumps as she worked with her newborn subjects (the oldest of whom was just two weeks old!). Kelly’s professionalism was topped only by her charm — through three days of intense shooting, Kelly remained unflappable, self-deprecating, and endlessly inspiring.
