A New Year brings a new calendar, new goals, and re-programing that muscle memory to write 18 when filling out the date. But the end of one season and the beginning of another also brings along something else — end-of-season sales.

The typical conference usually involves a speaker, a not-so-comfy-chair, long discussions, maybe a Q&A session at the end and seldom seeing much outside the walls of whatever hotel is hosting the event. Yeah Field Trip is like that — in none of those ways.

Instagram’s instant, raw nature and square format meshes perfectly with the candid styles and dramatic tones of street photography. Through the lens of a street photographer, what appears to be an everyday scene is often turned extraordinary through perspective, timing, light.

The camera can only capture scenes that play out before the lens in real life — which makes photographs that capture the surreal, the fantasy worlds or the odd juxtapositions all the more impressive. Fine art photographers are often colorful, always creative and never disappointing.

Nothing quite inspires a great photograph like a great scene — but landscape photography isn’t the same as it was twenty years ago. Today’s landscape photographers are also often travelers or adventurers — and many share those adventures on Instagram, making the social network an ideal spot to find inspiration, learn new photography tricks or simply create a wanderlust bucketlist.

Shooting stock photography is a balance between art and business, between crafting a visually interesting image and creating a useful graphic.

Childhood is running, jumping, playing, giggling — pretty much the exact opposite of sitting still and saying cheese for perfect kid's portraits. The task of sitting perfectly posed for pictures is torture for active kids, terrifying for shy kids, and impossible for many kids.

Photoshop offers a number of tools that makes cutting an object out of a photo easy — that is, until you get to the hair. Thousands of strands of hair going in multiple directions is a nightmare for any selection task, whether that’s because you need to apply a selective edit, remove the background or to compost multiple images together.

Learning three manual exposure settings seems simple compared to memorizing the placement of chins, shoulders, hands, elbows, hips, knees and feet required to create a flattering portrait. Posing can be downright scary for new photographers, but without it, a technically perfect photo falls flat in an unflattering rendition.
