Fundamentals of Photography
John Greengo
a beginner’s guide to photomacrography and photomicrography.
Really great introduction to microphotography! I do macro photography for my job and I learnt a lot. Something that was particularly helpful was watching Charles use the editing functions of Zerene Stacker. Like other reviewers have said, if there was a longer and more in-depth course that would be fantastic.
The instructor takes great photos. The class is good as an introduction. However there is no instruction on how to shoot. Especially how to setup lighting is missing. I hope CreativeLive can offer more comprehensive classes for specific topics.
I loved the course, such as it is, but I wish it went further. I was hoping that there would be more on how to adjust speed, lighting on the computer, differences between scientific microscopy and photographic. Charles Krebs is just great. I hope he can do another class.
I've been a fan of Charles Krebs for many years. Finally he has offered a course explaining his magic. This course is awesome. If you are interested in ultra macro photography you have to get this course. I highly recommend it.
Like the other reviewers I enjoyed this class but would like a very in-depth part 2. He just mention lighting, a ping pong ball and a white dome. I'd like to learn how those are used. Where do you get the dome, what material is it, etc. I'd also like to learn about his specimens. While he mentions what they are, how do you use the water from your bird bath? Does it go on a slide? Please do a part 2. Thanks!
I found this course very interesting. I, like other reviewers, would have enjoyed a longer presentation with more hands on instruction. I'd like something that goes from A-Z, everything from acquiring your subjects (Are they purchased, caught, frozen, pinned, etc) to the photographing of the subject (lighting, etc.), to the end result. The focus stacking was the most hands on portion while other sections were just informative. I really enjoyed the class and Mr. Krebs knows his stuff but I would pay to have another more in depth and hands-on kind of class with Mr. Krebs,
An excellent introduction the micro photography. Now I am ready for the rest of the class, you know, the part where the instructor shows us how he sets-up the equipment and takes the shots. I'm sure Mr. Krebs is a master of photomicrography, but I expected a bit more instruction than he presented. How about a few more references to help me sift through the detritus on the internet? I liked what information was presented, I just expected more of it.
Super interesting but too short. I would love to have a longer course with Charles! Thank you Charles, you made me remember my childhood. I had a simple little microscope that my father gave me back in the 90s - sweet memories!
