Design Surface Patterns From Scratch

Anyone can draw
This beginner-friendly class will teach you essential techniques for drawing realistically. Understand the concepts of line quality, contour line, and mark making. You’ll also learn about the materials used in drawing and art so you’re not intimidated by the art store. And you’ll understand how to slow down and ‘see’ things to better draw them. Instructor Amy Wynne teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design and exhibits her work nationally, winning numerous grants and awards.
In this class you’ll learn:
By the end of the class, you’ll have created a series of contour drawings of organic and mechanical objects in varied materials.
This was an excellent class. Amy's instructions are so helpful. She's laying such a great foundation. I'm drawing every day using Amy's tips.
Inspiring, easy to follow instructor! I found this course helpful with relaxing and enjoying the drawing process.
I really liked this short introduction, inspiring me with ideas to deepen my drawing practice in a playful way. 'Connecting with your subject' is a quote I will keep reminding myself of in the future.
This was a great course! I especially liked the blind contour drawing. I was also happy with the materials information. I would have never pushed myself to draw with markers or ballpoint pens had it not been for this course. I was able to expand the materials that I worked with and take the judgment out of drawing. I look forward to taking the other courses in this series.
Get a bundled deal is my recommendation. Getting Started; it's an interesting title... I can see how mistaking this for a DRAW NOW! course could be made, but after going through this, it is really a primer for all the facets that drawing can entail, e.g., paper, drawing tools, outlook and techniques along with an exercise to get out of the way of the artist in you (no matter what level or reason that artist exists for). I got this along with the other three courses as a bundle on a discount with an added coupon so the price was VERY right. Full price, for this class in particular I would feel a bit online-class bitten, to muddle a metaphor.
Yes - i recommend this class. I love how she explains the various art materials and paper, and how to use them.
So far so good; the instructor is great. BUT please add a list of materials to purchase and have ready to use for the full benefit and experience in this class! Wish I would have known. I will have to grab these items and come back to re-watch the materials demos section of this class.
I studied drawing for many years, had brilliant teachers, and Amy ranks up there with any of them. She breaks down each step, everything you need to learn for basic drawing, and does it without it becoming technical or about rules and stifling creativity. Just listening to her and seeing her interact with the materials, the sensuality of it, the personal relationship...totally inspiring. Thank you.
Amy Wynn takes an almost meditative aproach to drawing. She challenges students to have an immersive experience from feeling the ridges in the drawing paper to the smell of the subject she is capturing. She teaches in a thorough, but easy manner. Loved it!
This class was great in demonstrating technique as well as helping me get in the right mindset to draw! I found it very helpful for my own practice and I will continue use what I learned. Amy Wynne is a very thoughtful and motivating teacher.
I love taking courses with Amy Wynne. (I've taken courses with her at RISD and I'll pretty much take any course she teaches.) She inspires me. One thing I wish is that I had been given a list of materials so I could have prepared for this and done all the activities as Amy did them. Thank you so much for this opportunity. I loved it!
