Design Surface Patterns From Scratch

mixed media art for beginners.
Mixed media is such a broad, all-encompassing topic that it is easy to become overwhelmed before you even start experimenting. During Introduction to Mixed Media, Stephenie Hamen will take the mystery out of mixed media and help you get started making art.
In this class, Stephenie will cover all the basics and teach you how to lay out a mixed media art piece, step-by-step and item-by-item. You’ll learn about common materials and how each media within the piece works and interacts with the others.
You’ll learn how to:
Stephenie will discuss the different types of acrylic paints, how they work, and how they react when water is added. You will learn which materials work well together and get lots of tips you can use when creating pieces in the future.
Even the most inexperienced beginner will develop a new appreciation for the art form and learn skills they can use to start making their own mixed media art.
I love her humor, and different take on things. I learned a lot of details no one else had covered. Loved having students in there with her and seeing the results.
Wonderful class, so much fun and I love how Stephanie makes you feel so relaxed and that things will be great even if you've never tried something like this before. I wanted to watch the course to get the idea of it, now I can't wait to get the supplies and watch again while trying it out myself. Thanks!
This was a really fun, basic class for dipping your toes in mixed media. I loved watching both Stephenie and her students work progress and it was really helpful to watch how mistakes (or as Bob Ross would say, happy accidents ;) can be turned into something beautiful or interesting. I think the biggest thing the course showed me is how to work through feeling awkward, insecure, or afraid to start because "what if it sucks" or "what if I have no talent" and keep working at it until I create something i love.
I love Stephanie's teaching style! So easy to follow along and I LOVE my finished product! Can't wait to take more of Steph's classes! :)
This was very informative, and quite fun to watch. I liked that the instructor endorsed the idea of using items that you have onhand; repurposing old books and other items to use until you really know where your style lies. I also like that she shared the names of products she truly believed were worth purchasing, without being pushy. This art form encourages "play" and is quite forgiving if you have a "happy little accident", because it's not difficult to cover the area in question, to try something different. I'm quite happy that I viewed this class!
I have been looking to attend a real beginners workshop for awhile now. My knowledge was very basic and wasn't sure where to start and what I needed. This was great and I will start over again while I complete a project following along. Really excited and feel ready to dip my foot in!!
Great class. Stephenie is a fun teacher. I really enjoyed it and loved the idea of using melted crayons.
I really enjoyed this class. Stephanie was fun and relaxed which made the learning fun and relaxed. I can't wait to get my hands dirty and give it a try!
I would say the instruction is good. It is hard for me to watch though since Stephanie is so self critical and puts herself down and explains herself throughout the instruction. You don't need to keep saying you failed, etc. Stephanie!
thanks a lot , the result is really great with very simple steps
Excellent! Stephenie taught so we could follow with ease and reminded us that creativity has no 'wrong way' or 'mistakes'. She made me feel really relaxed and gave me the confidence to work on my first mixed media paper project. Thank you Stephenie!
LOVED IT! It doesn't matter if this is your "style" of mixed media art. The information, tricks, tips, and tools are really worthwhile for any artist. I learned a ton.
I enjoyed this very much and I do a lot of crayon art now because the melting is so much fun.. the heat gun can make a tie dye effect when you melt the crayon (happy accident)!
Great ideas to use in my own work. .Being at the class with others then seeing the other students work was really great fun.
I absolutely loved this class! It gave me some great ideas and like another reviewer jogged loose some creative fears and opened up some new possibilities for creating art in a fun and authentic way. I can't wait to get started!!
Great class thank you Stephanie, thoroughly enjoyed it.
This was my second class with Stephenie Hamen and it is awesome. I haven't made so much mess or had so much fun in my craft room in a long time. I felt like I've jogged loose some fears and re-opened a different aspect of my creativity. I hadn't painted on canvas since high school and I never painted abstract before. Stephenie seems to make an effort to cover/incorporate as many media and techniques into each class as possible. Several of these were new to me and I'm delighted with the result.
