I am a member of URM academy and this course is super defined! worth every penny to get in depth understanding start to finish of certain tools and plugins and how to use them. a lot of other instructors don't go as deep as this with the why and how to use certain plugins or what they do.

Very good mixing class which gives a lot of great new ideas and advice from a very clever guy! The speed at which Joey operates the DAW and plugins shows how many hours he has clocked doing music production. Everything is covered from methods of replacing sounds completely (adding energy to the mix with distortion / automation - complete sample replacement methods); to mixing raw recordings (raw drums / bass / Vox etc) and it also dives into top down mixing / mastering towards the end. Brilliant all in one mixing course.

Joey Sturgis is one of the most talented, humble, and well spoken producers/audio engineers in the industry. His Mixing Master Class inspires both a sense of structure and maximum creativity. Well worth the asking price. Thank you, Joey!

Joey is such a guru of mixing. This course is super interesting, i've learned a lot of stuff. Keep up the good job CreativeLive!

  • Jesse A. Mar 14, 2018

This is such a great course. I have just watched it again and I picked up even more things then the first time.

  • darkshape . Nov 5, 2017

Man, this is the best class of audio you will get. Explain a LOT about mixing methods and producer tips.

  • Aditya M. Oct 31, 2017

This is the best course for someone who is looking forward to get into mixing metal music. Joey is a genius.

  • Eugene N. Sep 2, 2017

Joey explains things in a very unique way compared to other engineers and producers and makes understanding certain tools a lot easier!

  • Pierluigi P. Aug 2, 2017

Love the way that Joey explains things, straight to the point and very pratical. Raccomended, expecially for who is mixing in the box.

  • Jared S. Jan 2, 2017

If you understand what this course is, then it's a must have. For producers who have been in the game for years, much of this class might be old news, but I would still suspect that you can gleam some gems about Joey's pre-production techniques and overall workflow. Other reviewers have noted that the song he is mixing in these videos uses MIDI drums (Steven Slate) and amp sims. For me though, being a bedroom musician with many of the same plugins Joey has, this series was a must. Joey is meticulous, and aims for a tone that is as tight as clockwork, and that often requires using drum sample replacement and lots of guitar editing tricks. If you're in the same boat as I am, producing an album yourself, using mostly "in the box" mixing (that is, not using a bunch of analogue consoles), you can't let this class pass by.

  • Kuan Chang C. Aug 5, 2015

This is the must-have lesson I bought ever. The most simplest presentation about tools, mindset and practical from zero to hero steps by steps You also should check another class "studio pass"!! cheers!!

I can't even begin to acknowledge the extreme amount of useful knowledge I've gained from this course, mainly because I'm goin to be processing the knowledge for weeks maybe even months! These creative courses are like hearing a record the first time and you fall in love with it........... It ends up inspiring you to the point where you can't sleep.

I don't work exclusively in the same genre as Joey but I always make sure to clear my schedule when he's on CreativeLive. This class definitely didn't disappoint and it was awesome getting to see Joey work on a track from start to finish and what his approaches and thought processes are. And not only that, but I appreciate that he briefly touches on client communication in regards to production, mixing, etc, and the business side to the mixing process as this is an area I'm just now dipping my toes in. Even though I often find myself on the rock, indie or post-rock side of things, a lot of these ideas can apply to anything you're working on and I definitely picked up some ideas to try and work on myself. Joey gives you enough to inspire you and make that light bulb click and does it with an admirable humility that I respect. He gives you more than enough on how and why he does what he does, but I never feel like he reveals all his secrets or magic; I honestly prefer it that way as it leaves a fun challenge of taking the ideas you've learned and figuring out how, when and where you're going to use them in your own mixes. Especially if you're not doing predominantly metal, like I am. The ideas are inspiring. This class isn't about those perfect settings to that phenomenal mix or tone; it's about why you do this and how you do that. It's cool to be able to watch his process and pick his brain, start to finish and all in the box. Joey definitely doesn't need to do these classes for us, but the more I see him getting active on social media the more I get this vibe that he genuinely wants to help make the creative and mixing processes easier and help us expand our knowledge and skills. I get that it's smart business, but I respect and appreciate the hell out of him for taking time to do these classes and answer our questions... Even if there are shameless plugs here and there. I love when these great engineers take time to show us you don't need school, you don't need thousands of dollars of outboard gear, etc. It's your ear, not your gear. We live in an amazing day and age with the Internet and awesome resources like CreativeLive. I love it and these are great classes to watch and get in their heads. It set gets the hamster wheel in my head spinning and I always keep CreativeLive classes on my calendar. They're motivating and inspiring. Looking forward to the next one!

Absolutely phenomenal coarse! So much knowledge. My mixes had an immediate improvement after watching this.

I own both of Joey`s courses. While both are full of useful information to get you started in the audio production world with lots of good technical explanation and awesome concepts for a fast and individual workflow, Joey actually comes up with average or "mediocre" mixes and tones. If you want some really detailed information about how Joey works, this class is for you. If you want to know what plugins Joey likes to use and wanna see him promote his own plugins, this class is for you! If you expect to learn how to create or come up with outstanding guitar and bass tones (which Joey is famous for) you won`t learn much and won`t hear anything in this particular regard, unfortunately. However, I`d still recomment them, especially the first course he did but again, if you expect to hear a typical Joey Sturgis mix quality, you won`t find what you`re looking for.

I've been a huge fan of Joey's work for years. Buying most of the albums he has ever recorded/produced. I have been slugging it out in my home studio for years trying to gain as much knowledge as I could from all forms of websites and forums. Always becoming frustrated at myself for not getting what everyone was talking about. After purchasing and gaining an enormous amount of information from Joey's Studio Pass class, buying his Mixing Master Class was a no-brainer. Joey always explains everything so well and in a manner that anyone who can open up their preferred DAW, will easily understand his teachings and will be able to take every single aspect of his techniques and adapt them to your own works. This class is not for you to try and copy Joey's sound. It is intended for you to approach recording and mixing from a perspective that will enable you to develop and master your OWN sound, techniques and recordings. I can't recommend this class enough. For anyone who is trying to hone their craft in music recording/producing/mixing, whether it be in a home studio or a purpose built studio, you will learn valuable information from this. You won't regret it \m/

This was a great lesson. Great techniques and very informative and educative esepcially regarding ITB Mixing. Keep it up

  • Alex R. Jul 29, 2015

It doesn't matter if your are a beginner engineer or a pro engineer, you always have some tricks and secrets to learn in this mixing world. Amazing way to see the mixing theme, I don't want to make you spoiler, but in this course you gonna see 3 different ways to mixing a song and I'm not talking about "In the box vs out of the box" so there you have it, at the end of the day you don't spend money, you invest in becoming a best mixing and master guy! So, good luck and learn a lot with this incredible course.

An absolute must see. I am not an engineer, I just have fun in my basement recording some of my guitar idea. I bought both courses and I liked them a lot but I think comparing to the youtube player the player on this website is not so cool as I'm usually whatching the videos on my phone and it takes a lot of time buffering when rewatching certain parts and also I would like the website to grey out the videos I've already watched. But I think these courses were great, gave me a totally new and different prespective on mixing and production. Also answering a lot of questions I've had for the last few years. Thank you Mr. Sturgis, great contribution to the mixing society and I am really interested in your plugins, I will definitely buy some of them.

What's great about this course is that Joey takes the time to explain the reason behind every choice he makes while mixing and mastering right there on the fly. It's easy to watch someone do something and then copy it, but to understand why makes all the difference. I've started applying some of the concepts in this course and already hear a noticeable difference in my mixes. Strongly recommend this class.
