Alex will teach you how to create a “driveway moment”—that experience when the story is so good, it makes the audience pause what they are doing just to listen through to the end.
Whether you already produce a successful podcast, are a creative entrepreneur looking for a new marketing method, or just a public radio-loving audiophile – this class will help you tell better stories.
The fact that it's been recorded nearly ten years ago and is still soooo relevant and illuminating literally blew my mind ! Thank you so much . This is by far the best class i have seen on podcast storytelling .
Incredibly powerful. Thank you, Alex, you're a genius!
Obviously I'm the newbie - I had a podcast back in 2012 and would like to give it another go. I cannot believe how many "UMMS" and "AHS" interjected into this workshop from this professional. That being said I know I can get back into the game. I am a broker so I speak with people every day asking questions and I'm so conscious of pausing minus "UMMS" and "AHS" This could also be condensed into a shorter presentation.
This was absolutely amazing! I really enjoyed how Alex made the discussions inclusive. Lots of tips, real life examples, step-by-step instruction, and great in audience feedback and participation. I will refer to what I’ve gleaned from this class over and over!
Good material overall but challenging to listen to Alex's presentation; could use some public-speaking tips; eliminate all the "likes" "ums" "ahs", and "sort of" filler words. This would cut the length of the sessions in half for sure!
Increible todo el contendio que comparte Alex y la quimica que logra crear con todos los que estamos tomando el curso.. Es un genio!
This course is amazing!
Great course! It's so nice to see your personal hero teach you a 10-hour course. Thanks, Alex and Creative Life.
I have been doing interview-conversations for too many years. I am a live talk radio host from the early days of Live streaming internet radio so there were never any do-overs. Now as a podcaster, I have grown bored with most of my interviews, I know go figure, and I have started editing them, a lot, and inserting new narration and a little sound design to make them more engaging and entertaining. But it's a lot of work. This course really helped me understand how to be more effective pre, during nd post-production. I like to create story-views - interviews turned into stories but not as "produced" as public radio's...(I wish). Great tips for telling a "life" story...
I learned more about doing an interview and creating a story that people want to hear in this course than in a 3-year degree and a master's year in journalism. This course is not only indispensable for those who want to do podcasts but for all those who want to tell stories
Really great deep-dive into more of the technical elements of getting and producing a good story. I've tried to listen to podcasts and figure out the formula myself, but this really shed light into all the areas I wasn't quite hitting from the questions I was asking to the music I was adding. Wish I had watched this course before I ever started podcasting. I also really love the fact they take you through a live interview and a finished product from that interview. I've been looking for that and haven't found it anywhere else. GREAT job!! Totally changed the game for me.
Great course! Really good content. I am from Spain and with the subtitles i was really easy to follow the seminar. I learnt so much information and tips!
Good info but way too long and drawn out. Especially the audience comments and interview with the woman from Ohio. Could have easily been half the length.
Best online course I've taken! I'm starting a narrative non-fiction podcast with interviews and this is what I've been waiting to find. I've spent weeks/months learning about editing software, what equipment to buy, SEO, naming and logos, etc. But Alex actually breaks down the heart of the medium: stories. And he walks the talk by doing his entire course with a live audience. It's intimate, and I feel refreshed and motivated. This course demystifies what actually makes a story compelling *for audio* and gives practical tools to use now. Enough gushing. Simply, I would highly recommend to anyone interested in the topic.
Alex Blumberg is an excellent instructor. He and his partner recently sold their company, Gimlet, for more than 200 million dollars. Although this was filmed prior to that, his sincerity, skill, compassion and spirit are authentic and that was obviously recognized by Spotify. This is an exceptional learning experience.
It was an incredible class. Inspiring.... fun...informative... muy interesante... Podcasting en Espanol from Florida ...Thank you for taking the time to do this. I hope I can work with you one day. Thank you Alex
Hands down the BEST online class I've ever taken. He was engaging, funny, interesting and full of all kinds of knowledge. I totally binged...spent the entire day listening! Absolutely recommend!
Great course. A great podcast is always about the story and how well it is delivered. These sessions offer a useful road map to ensure my stories are impactful.
Spent the past few days listening to this class. Absolutely binged on it. I love that I was able to watch it at 1.5x speed and that helped one of the comments by one of the reviewers here who didn't like the ums and ahs. I guess that's what you get from a live recording of a class. On that note, I love that it's a classroom set up with other people in the audience chiming in and that's made this experience richer. I highly enjoyed the workshop portion and seeing the story formula come to life. I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to tell stories using audio. You'll walk away not only full of actionable advice but also inspired in so many ways. Thanks, Alex Blumberg for sharing your work. It really shows that you love doing this and I hope to follow in your footsteps.
I am so happy I participated in this class. I had a TV and video production company, and intuitively, I did all that you taught, now is conscious. And I dare to start my podcast, as I have been dreaming for a while now. Very happy!
I am developing a podcast brief to get some grant money and this has been incredibly invaluable. Take notes every step of the way.
I learnt a lot from Alex which was helped a lot by his easy-going style of delivery.
This course was a game-changer for me. After going through this series, I started my podcast, The Firn Line, in March 2017 A year later, my podcast had a 5 star rating, averaged 25,000 downloads a month, and was monetized. I would recommend this course for anyone who aspires to produce a high-quality storytelling based podcast.
This class is a great resource for storytellers of any kind. A highly recommended rare glimpse into the wisdom of someone who is, works with and has learned from the best in the business.
Making a story work is an art and a craft that is challenging to communicate, but Alex does it in a masterful way. This is not a class on software and technical tools, but about the process of creating a story -- all the thinking and listening that goes into it before the actual production takes place. Alex makes a compelling case for story-telling that goes beyond reporting and recounting of facts. Thank you for this class!
