Wonderful informative class. I look forward to reading her books!

Very inspiring and insightful. I love her lecture style and completed the course in one sitting. Now i'm going to go and read every single one of her books.

These ways to writing an essay opened up so many of my story ideas, and I made notes to begin. This Class is great, but I need exercises. If I wrote a short essay, would it be graded, like a school class? I thought there would be more interactive work for me. Are we able to write something for review? I am a 79 year old storyteller, and over the years, people has often said I need to write a book. My response is, it would be a series of books because of all the lives I have lived. I had written about myself in detail, until the age of 20, when I ripped up all the pages. Rape will do that.

This inspirational course was just the nudge I needed to go headlong into the story that I have been waiting to write. Thank you Joyce

I've watched this course twice now and have gotten something new from it both times. Joyce is not boring in her delivery and shares a practical breakdown of how to write a memoir. She's a great teacher in the art.

What a great class! So much packed into the lessons. Some of her insights and advice have changed my mindset toward my writing, and I’m re-energized and excited to begin. While the class is definitely geared for memoir writers or personal essayists, I think there’s value for writers of other genres as well. I’ll be looking for more by Joyce Maynard in the future!

I've been working on a memoir for a while now, and this course reinvigorated my passion for this project. Her advice is practical and effective. I truly appreciate her authenticity and vulnerability. I highly recommend this course for writers of every level, from amateur to professional.

Highly recommend this class, not only for the insights about writing and some of the technical information as to why something does or doesn’t work—but I would recommend this for anyone who loves stories. There was so much depth to the participants stories and I loved how Joyce M gently takes them apart and asks probing questions, almost like a good therapist. Well. Maybe that is what good writing is all about anyway. Facing and getting at and then writing those emotional truths as she puts it. Joyce Maynard is the queen of making that happen. Take this course.

I wanted to hug you at the end of this and there was sadness that it was coming to an end. I have looked forward to the lessons each time. Great class. I have spent most of my life writing - technical books, complex proposals, and other very detailed documentation. I am a very competent writer, but have never done memoir/biographical/personal writing. I have wanted to write a memoir, but despite being a professional writer, did not know how to approach this particular genre. What I liked most about this class was the the "container" approach and telling one's own story, rather than including the supposed thoughts and stories of others. This clarified my thinking. I recommend the class.

I've been working on my memoir for over a year and was close to the end of the first draft. This amazing class is filled with so much wisdom and excellent teaching. I have watched all the videos back to back, made plenty of notes and loved every moment. I am really grateful I bought this class before moving any further with my memoir as sadly I definitely need to start from scratch. As frustrating as that is, I am relieved it happened now and I can use all this knowledge in the rewrite. I also can't wait to read Joyce Maynard's books. Brilliant!

This was great - am most interested in writing fiction but feel many of the insights, tips and techniques will also apply and add depth and reality to this genre, especially when writing from first-person. While a valuable program in many ways - would have loved it for Joyce's 'My Sharona' story alone!
