After I took this course my mixes began to really sound better, and after learning more tricks and trying out new things and practice they are amazing, and I am very comfortable and happy with the results. Graham is a great teacher, great musician and singer too, we are so fortunate for his contribution to the music community.
Clear, concise, interesting! Zach presents a lot of information in the context of an actual song being constructed from start to finish. The entire process was easy to follow, and Zach provides key insights for each step. For example, when starting a project, I've never known what to do first - lay down a drum track, record guitar, record vocal ... ? After watching this course, I have a much better idea about how to decide which thing to do first, and the concept of scratch tracks adds a lot of flexibility to the process. The addition of doubled tracks and other instrument layers ("overdubs") made a huge impact on the overall sound and these seem like very achievable steps for a home studio. I've done some home recording and mixing with garage band and an old version of logic. This course is a great update on that. While Zach demonstrates protools, I think it's pretty easy to map most of what he did to other apps like garageband (which admittedly has more restricted functionality). I'm looking forward to starting my next recording project using what I've learned here!
I like how thorough Jesse is and I appreciate all the real-world demos.
Excellent course and food for thought!
Disregard the comments saying that this is not the fundamentals of mixing. They're only be saying this because they didn't watch all of the videos before the actual mixing of the songs. Here's my review. This has been a very refreshing class because Jesse talks real life situations of what it's like to learn how to mix. I love how he talks about his own past struggles with mixing and how he overcame those struggles and he gives us key points to do so that we don't go down bunny trails of trial of and error trying to figure out how to mix. I highly recommend this class to anyone who's a beginner or intermediate mixer or if you feel lost sometimes with certain things when mixing, Jesse covers it ALL here and shows you how to overcome and how to be decisive in how you mix. You really owe it to your mixes and clients to invest in this class and set some time aside to watch, listen and learn and you will have a stable foundation to mix anything rock and edm going forward no matter what your mixing skill level is at. My quick tip to anyone reading this is to watch every video because if you don't you'll be like these other nonsense reviews who never watched the whole class and therefor never grew in their mixing skills. Honestly I can't get enough of this class. I keep going back and re-watching and just can't get enough of this class. You apply this stuff and you'll be a pro mixer! Here's to making some killer rock songs in 2020!!!!!!
I'm about 75% through this course now and am absolutely loving it. Graham gives a very clear and detailed look at compressors. Thank you!
This was a great course for beginners, it was a true introduction. Of course the instructor used high-end software and equipment; he is a professional music producer, and is comfortable with the tools he uses on an everyday basis. I did not hear him say you had to get the products he was using, he just identified the tools so anyone watching can do their own research. After watching this class, I checked out several sources for more info, and found that you can get a basic interface that comes with the DAW software, for as little as $100. If you have an interest at all in home recording but don't know where to start, this is the course for you. 5 stars.
So glad, that I joined this master class. Very informative, with good and helpful explanation. I'm keen on Graham's EQ class and my first start at the DAW, with the things I just learned. Thank you!
This really helped me with remixing an old punk band's recording from the early 90's that was done on an 8 track tape machine. Drums were kick and snare (on same track) then 2 over head tracks.
Over a dozen of tutorial I've seen about compressors, this lesson about compressors is by far the best, you'll learn here what Ratio, Threshold, Release, and Attack really do, after I seen this lessons I was able to use any compressor.
Definitely some handy tips in here that are useful for mixing live music, poorly recorded tracks and anything else that couldn't be rectified during recording. Kurt gave some tips I had never thought of and there were some valuable insights that came out from his discussions with people in the room. Very valuable if you deal with any sub-standard recordings and if you just want to get some tips.
A great class to learn the fundamentals of EQ and power of it. A great tool for the people starting on and also to the pros as a refreshment and a share of opinions and experiences.
another fantastic course in the creative live audio section, kurt kills it,!! thank you!
Very interesting stuff! I also record music from home and this video gave me lots of good tips.
This class its very cool specially the way all the beats fit right into every part of the song or session that you work on right on brother.
THIS IS PERFECT FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME .I STARTED LATE IN TAKING MY SINGING CAREER SERIOUS,SITTING BACK WAITING FOR OTHERS;I AM MORE OF A SINGER/SONGWRITER THAN A PRODUCER OF RIDDIMS;BUT I HAD TO LEARN,BECAUSE I WAS SERIOUS OTHERS WAS NOT,THERE PEOPLE WHO CAN HELP ME WITH ALL THIS STUFF BUT THEY ARE ALWAYS BUSY,THEY HAVE PREFERNCE(POPULAR/NOT POPULAR ARTIST....MUSIC POLITICS,AFTER AWHILE ALL THE WAITING AROUND ,TIME WASTING E.T.C,SO GRAHAM COCHRANE AND THE RECORD REVOLUTION, AND NOW CREATIVELIVE ARE HELPING ME GRAETLY AND I AM ADVANCING AT A GREAT SPEED THANKSSSSSSSSSSSS
An absolutely fantastic course for anyone who is new (or even experienced) on how to use very innovative techniques to help bring some life to an otherwise poorly recorded demo. Thank you Kurt!
I don't usually write reviews, but these lessons are an amazing course for people who want to know more about compression. I feel that I have more confidence in my mixing abilities. Thank you very much Graham!
This is like Pensado's Place with the plus of Jesse's cool personality and easy to understand mixing concepts and demonstrations.
OK I bought this course to watch at my leisure. Lots of Respect for Kris - if you go to his personal website, his experience and track record (no pun!) is impressive. Clearly he knows his stuff and has developed a very efficient way of working. I am a singer songwriter in the UK with many years of experience playing live. I have my own project studio (Pro Tools 11, lots of vintage hardware, UAD, Avalon, Tube Tech etc) and all the software plug ins, virtual instruments. Also a comprehensive guitar collection, acoustics, electrics, keyboards, DW drums etc. My problem is this. here again is a well organised Creative Live presentation with a competent presenter, but the content is inappropriate for the majority of viewers. Like many people watching this stuff, I find the material used to demonstrate the techniques is awful. Grahame Cochrane is the same - over produced American soft rock which has absolutely no musical or creative merit. This 'music' isn't going to stand the test of time and will be gone within a year. I understand that the material isn't Kris's personal stuff, but he says he likes it and I'm sure he does. But what your listeners want to hear is how to produce recordings which have space and clarity. Listen to Jackson Browne, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Mark Knopfler, Ry Cooder, Dylan, Van Morrison - these artist's recordings are the ones to emulate! So please, can we kick out the over compressed X Factor style stuff and get back to basics? Show us how to get quality sounds and how to create space in a mix. Its the natural sounding music which will be with us in 50 year's time - just like the Motown stuff is now. No doubt there is a whole generation out there who think this sort of material has credibility, but I have to tell you it has almost no musical or creative merit, and I for one don't need to know how its produced.
The most practical music purchase I've made this year. In the past I shyed away from using much EQ and compression assuming my lack of knowledge with them would cause more harm than good. This course demystified both and has given me confidence to use these tools more and to get the most out of my recording and the plugins I already own. Thank you Graham and Creative Live. I highly recommend the EQ and compression courses.
I love these classes! Graham is an compressor and EQ himself when it comes to teaching as he glues all of the content taught together. You won't find a better teacher. Graham is down to Earth, no ego and he doesn't use his platform as an vehicle to brag about his gear/equipment. Graham's presentations are informative and concise. These classes, along with more content Graham provides via You Tube and email; are exactly what I need. I can't thank you enough!
This class is excellent! Graham is so talented and concise in his teaching. I learned so much from all of Graham's teaching material, I'm committed.
I am so greatful to have found Graham's website, The Recording Revolution. My mixes have improved tremendously because of what I learned through him. This course and the EQ course are even more amazing. Thank you Graham for sharing your time and your knowledge. Luke
Love the simple approach Graham uses. I've been a subscriber to his blog for a long time, and he does not disappoint there, or in this course! This is worth buying if you are newer or would like some refreshers, since Graham goes into the theory and application behind compression and EQ. Great work, as always!
