ABOUT JASON'S CLASS:

Create, illustrate, and build your creative ideas, logos, and graphics on the iPad with your Apple pencil. This newly-released app is filled with features such as creating patterns with the Repeat feature, expansive type options, easy to navigate and use touch interface, and the ability to live-stream your creative process.

Use on the go, at your desk, or wherever creativity comes to you, the Illustrator on the iPad makes creating fun and portable.

ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR:

An Adobe® Certified Expert and Adobe® Certified Instructor, Jason Hoppe has accrued more than 20 years’ experience in high-end production training, photo retouching, color correction, and creative workflow management. In fact, Jason has been performing high-end electronic production since the industry’s inception. Also during this time, Jason has taught prepress and electronic design to hundreds of Seattle-based creative professionals and aspiring designers in a variety of settings, including one-on-one tutoring, classroom instruction, live webcasting, and large group training. He currently teaches the Adobe® Creative Suite at The School of Visual Concepts, Luminous Works, and Seattle Central College, an Adobe MAX Master and was the founding Instructor at CreativeLive.

Lessons

  1. Introduction to Illustrator on the iPad

    Launching Illustrator on the iPad, reviewing specs for the iPad and Apple pencil, help menu and resources.

  2. Create a New Document and Setting Preferences

    New document creation, setting Artboard sizes and specs, setting color modes

  3. Toolbar, Task Bar, Interface and Shortcuts

    Review the tools in the Toolbar, the Panels in the Task Bar, shortcuts and gestures and the Touch Wheel

  4. Basic Shapes, Touch Wheel, Contextual Menus

    Creating basic shapes with the shape tool, using the Selection tool to move, reshape and rotate the shape. Overview of the contextual menus that appear when working on the selected shapes and the Properties Panel introduction.

  5. Guides, Grids and Smart Guides

    Overview of the Precision panel where the guides, grids and smart guide features are. Snapping to the grid, using Smart guides to align and space objects with precision on the Artboard.

  6. Direct Selection Tool, Path Features, Editing Points and Joining Lines

    Using the Direct Selection Tool to move points, edit corners, convert corners from smooth to corner points, join open ends together and use the Smart Delete and Simplify path features.

  7. Pen Tool, Pencil Tool, Blob Brush Tool, Eraser Tool

    Drawing with the Pen Tool, editing points and handles. Setting the Pencil Tool smoothness and accuracy. Blob brush tool for different style brushes and the Eraser Tool to erase portions of lines and shapes.

  8. Align and Distribute

    Align shapes, distribute spacing and flip content in the Align Panel

  9. Paths

    Editing paths using the paths panel. Convert corners, outlines paths, smart delete and smooth lines.

  10. Repeat Feature

    New to Illustrator and currently only on the iPad, the Repeat panel allows for creation of patterns by rotation, grid or mirroring your creations

  11. Clipping Masks and Object Panel

    Create clipping masks, group and ungroup objects, convert paths to outlines in the Object Panel

  12. Paths, Lines, and Strokes

    Edit path features with end cap, change the stroke weight and create dashed or dotted lines

  13. Color and Gradients

    Choose colors using the Color picker. Sample existing colors from within the Color Picker, use color from your CC libraries and pick from color books for spot colors. Apply linear, radial and freeform gradients and change the opacity on objects and paths

  14. Type and Layers

    Explore the type functions and features of text and type on a path. Easily edit text and choose from a vast selection of fonts included with Illustrator. Understand layers, layer order, locking objects and turning on and off visibility of objects.

  15. Save, Export, Share, Import and Wrap Up

    Save your files as different file types to the Document cloud. Access files from the cloud, from other files or storage locations. Share your artwork and live stream your creative process. Import content from your camera, photos, layered Photoshop files or your CC libraries.
